DO. NOT. WANT.

The best way to stop any Scientologist actor vanity project in its tracks is to remind the studios what happened last time. This plan must be stopped!

Not really a remake but Robert Anthony Rodriguez (Sin City) announced that a live-action movie version of "The Jetsons" is in the makes.

Which I'm sure will be every bit as good as the two live action Flintstones movies we've been subjected to...er, I mean, gifted with.

Maybe they could remake Hawk the Slayer ;-)

Unfortunately no Jack Palance but there is someone who looks exactly like the dwarf in that movie admittedly last seen in Dark Knight but that still requires them to be actually better than the original...

Can't quite see them pull that off for me it was actually rather good and probably what Jeremy Irons used to pull off his role in the D&D movie (Jack Palance is after all a good role model for villainy in swords and sorcery movies!)

Some of my favourite movies and also some nostalgic ones...

Why God Why?!?
The only one I can maybe get into is Evil Dead, but only 'cause Sam & Bruce are doing it (although if Bruce doesn't play Ash it'll put a dampener on it).

My wife is a masssive Friends fan and has the boxed set on constant repeat in the DVD player...

Ross says that in one episode (it actually played the other day, so it was fresh in mind)...

Seriously? The whole point of this movie is that it is bad. It's campy, low-budget fun. How in the world can they possibly justify a remake? Oh, that's right, money.

Aside from the execs' reluctance to bank on new concepts, the problem is that a lot of people have no experience with the original versions, and thus no basis for comparison/nostalgia/distaste. Part of the reason is age, but a bigger part, as far as money goes, is the recent shift of Hollywood revenue from U.S.-domestic to everybody-else.

Two cases:

A younger school-friend (mid-20s) balked at taking her younger sister (age 13) to see the "new and improved" Friday the 13th movie, b/c she had experienced the "horror classic" in all its televised/VHS glory for the past 20-odd yrs. Myself (early 30s), I remember the absurdly drawn-out 80s horror franchises from when they were in the movies, and couldn't fathom the appeal of an umpteenth version much less *more gore-less suspense* modern horror versions. Suffice to say the little one loved it, with no concern for the previous 10(?!) movies and recommended it to all her tweeny-friends.

Another school-friend (mid-20s), who grew up in the Caribbean, but spent his teens in the States, drew a complete blank when the rest of us made jokes about a particular "Tron-like" video effect (neon-highlights). This guy had no idea what the hell we were talking about, having *never heard of Tron*. He's kind of a big sf-movie geek, so this was fairly shocking (to me, at least).

So basically, if movies from as "late" as the 80s have already faded beyond the veil of pop/geek culture history, the studios have carte blanche to do with them as they will - most of the audience won't even know they're getting recycled goods.

So that means Hawk the Slayer is well and truly a possibility!

That was the whole point in Mel Brooks' films making fun of everything. If his works get remade without his hand in them I am going to cry and try to keep finding studio hated, but great movies, like Repo the Genetic Opera, if you haven't seen or heard of it find it and watch it.

I'm looking forward to Conan and Dune

Battle Royal and They Live, it's sacrilege to remake these

and I don't think 1984 can be made into a good movie, how are they going to do all the torture

'The Thing' isn't a remake, it's a companion piece to the 1982 movie. Still probably won't be very good though.

'Battle Royale' is an exceptionally awesome but also very Japanese movie. I can't see an American version working at all.

Repo, now that was a left field awesome movie.

Not bad for an $8,000,000.00 IIRC movie. To bad it didn't do well at the box office they wanted to make it a trilogy of sorts.

Not quite a movie, but Mel Brooks was one of the writers for the original Get Smart series which was just remade into a movie not too long ago. Young Frankenstein can't be too far behind.

For some arcane and obscure reason I want to see a direct sequel to that

You'd be amazed of how much more imagination(not to mention potential for cgi and money-making)all those ancient stories had than their movie counterparts(God of war rip-off I am talking to you)

Luckily, no-one. Ridley Scott calmed everyone down by saying that no, it's just going to be a prequel and 'origin story' instead. You know, because the xenomorphs badly need an origin story.

I don't really get the hate. If you hate the concept of a particular remake, don't go see it. Most people don't go back and alter or destroy the original versions (unless they are Lucas).

And sometimes remakes can be superior. The Thing is perhaps the best example of this.
