Hmm, that's pretty close to the mix I had with teaching my nephews the 3.5 version of the world's oldest rpg...and the youngest ended up being the most rp intensive, which shocked the heck out of me (I think he's just a little ham and not at all normal). How much did they get into the character gen process, as far as abilities, personality, race, skills, etc? Do you think the two youngest got the idea that you were telling a story together and then just ditched it for killing things? Or that they missed that idea?

If I remember correctly, I let the oldest just wing it, since he had played once before, and I concentrated on the two youngest ones in the prep session. We figured out how they knew each other, and came up with some backstory that they were trying to get revenge for somebody they were both connected to who had been killed. (This was all on the fly, since I had planned on running a one-on-one game for the oldest while the little guys watched a movie or something.) In any event, it was a real learning experience for me, and it seemed like investment in the character made the same difference for little people as it makes for big people.

I think a cute dmpc could be winning idea. Another dmpc possibility is a Gandalf or an Aragorn who would only step in and help at certain points, in necessary.

That's what they got for their dinner, specifically the stale, gross leftovers from my son's lunch. Blech. But hey, it doesn't bother the dogs. :)

I had a German shepherd mix once names Zeke. Zeke would eat anything. Watermelon rinds, heads of cabbage, and he'd wolf it down in huge quantities and always remain skinny. I had to be careful letting him have beer, however...

Kellen was the same when we started, it helped though that his mommy, wanted to roleplay, so he got to enjoy that part as well. Try running a cute likable DMPC with them.

I introduced a friendly bulette (named "Bulbasaur") for my son and daughter to roleplay with. They had to talk him out of knocking over a train, and then he became their lovable but destructive companion for the rest of that mini-campaign.

Taig, you'll be glad to know that the last game I had with my nephews, they befriended an awakened celestial dire badger, which had them excited. Can't remember the name now, but he's basically been introduced with the sense that he'll be a recurring character, which has them speculating.

Why can't I look away? I feel like everybody is right in a certain respect, but that there's hurt feelings involved that they can't see past to see the other side. So they blame the whole thing on mods for being too tough, not tough enough, too inconsistent, etc. Sigh.

Yeah, he tempts "norms" with his magical fizzy elixer. Once they become addicted, they discover the side-effects: rotting teeth, sewing-machine leg, hyperactivity in children, and insomnia. When they try to quit, they encounter the dreaded caffeine-deficiency headaches, irritability, and lethergy.

So do you guys, and gal, think I should, A) Convert the PCs in the current campaign to PF, B) Start a new campaign using PF rules, or C) Continue the current game with 3.5 waiting the couple months left before using PF rules?

If you're only a couple months from done, I'd wait to convert until the current campaign is over. It really changes the way some characters work which can be kinda disruptive to the story. If you're gonna keep going with this campaign for a long time, that disruption is just a blip in the overall scheme of things, so I would say go ahead.

I'd be tempted to finish. When will you even have the bestiary, for example? Would give you time to absorb the books. I had hope to run PF for Halloween, but I'm growing less optimistic.

Yeah, I know how you feel. It's hard to wait when you want to play with the cool new toy. :) Right now I'm the only one in my group who is remotely excited about Pathfinder. :(

Although I am wearing my husband down on that subject....He's really resistant to change when it comes to RPGs - don't even get me started on the drama when we switched to 3e - but he's coming around.
