Ugh, got to take the boy to school. This whole up early thing is for the birds, but at least hunny was able to take him 3 days this week! Big improvement over last week. I have coffee with my girlfriend next door when I get back, so I will see ya a little later, hope everyones day starts off well! :D
I'm glad that this week is almost over. It's been very busy - old fiscal year ended, new one began, and I've had contractors at my test site all this week performing digital radiographic testing on some of our steam piping.
They make you spend every last penny in your budget so you can receive the same level of funding next year? That rule always made me angry.
Back in my day, we had to walk barefoot to school in the dead of winter, with 20 feet of snow on the ground, uphill - both ways!
And you know what?
We liked it!

Technically, not always. We can have some funding designated as carry-over, so that it's good into the next FY.
There's also the option of putting money on a contract, which is really useful if you know you've got some work at the beginning of the new FY that you'll need done before the new funding gets allocated.
Either way, we're never guaranteed the same level of funding. Hell, for the longest time, my branch had reduced funding each year, all because they considered steam propulsion to be "dead". Then something bad happened, they realized that steam was going to be around for another couple decades, and - bingo! - we get more funding.

Well, that's something at least. I remember having to go out and pick up a new set of office furniture every year because our office needed to find something to spend the last bits of the budget on. Three sets of furniture in three years, and the old sets were taken to this area where contractors could buy it for pennies on the dollar.

So, a new study says 60% of people who commited a violent crime by age 35 had eaten candy as a child. Isn't that like saying that 60% of people who were killed in traffic accidents last year ate carrots as a child?
I'm at work already, and it's looking like another long, hard day. But the new portal to Golarion I discovered in the wall last night makes my day a little brighter. I wonder who will walk out of the wall and invite me in today? Lini? Seelah? Or perhaps Seoni again? Who knows? That's the beautiful thing. Ah, blissful insanity...

I am actually surprised the percentage isn't higher. And what exactly defines 'eaten candy?' One piece? A Halloween bucket once a year? Deep fried Mars Bars for breakfast every day? Seems kinda fungible.
EDIT: Having looked at the article, I can kinda see the point. Bad diet can lead to all kinds of problems. I still think there are a lot of other factors, like parents who would let their kids live off candy. Probably not the best role models growing up.

The only thing the article says is that they ate candy at least once a day. Now I don't know if it means a whole bag of fun sized Snickers evey day, or if it was one little Smartie pill each day, the article doesn't say.
Edit: My prblm is that pointing to candy as the causal factor does not xplain why therest of the violent offenders in the study group offened if they hadn't eaten candy every day. 31% is a pretty big group to just write off as a statistical anomoly.
