I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the men and women, past and present who serve in the Armed Forces. Thank you for your courage, your honor, and your sacrifice. I ask that each of us remembers the upcomming holiday for what it's meaning is, to honor those that protect you. God bless you all.

Thanks! As a Marine, it's greatly appreciated when citizens recognize the sacrifices made by my brothers in arms. I think I speak for the vast majority of us when I say : We serve because we love this country and our way of life.

As a lifelong civilian I want to second Moorluck's sentiments.

Note that we have a holiday for Veterans, appropriately named. If possible, in your observance, remeber to thank those this holiday is for - the soldiers and those affiliated with them who gave their lives in time of war. All that is left is to remember them, and their sacrifice.
True, but I choose to take it a bit farther. Though he didn't die in battle, my father carried the scars of WWII with him his whole life. (fresh in my mind as I tended his grave today, so I'm a bit melancholy)
IMO, vets can't be thanked enough. Especially when they could be making that sacrifice the next day.
Blessings and thanks to all. Past, present, or future.

Minus the personal reference, my thoughts exactly.

Without my glasses, I thought this said Memorial Day MASSAGE..I got all excited for a minute there...
Well, even if there is to be no kneading of the flesh, happy Memorial Day to all those military types out there. Know that you shall not be forgotten.
Hmm. Freehold you gave me an idea! Free massages for all veterans! I like it!! ;)

Thank you much for this post, as you may remember, my brother in law is in the Marine Corps, stationed at Coronado Island. So this holiday is for him, and all of the members of our Armed Forces who gave their lives, the ultimate sacrifice, for our freedom.

Thank you to all those serving and especially to those who are no longer with us.
My mother was cleaning out my grandmother's house not too long ago and she found a lot of stuff from my grandfather's service in WWII like enlistment papers, medals, badges, service ribbons, etc. My wife is going to make a shadow box to display it all.

Food for thought on this day.
Nov 11th, 1965. Ia Drang Valley LZ Xray, Veitnam.
Outnumbered 8 to 1 with enemy fire coming in from as close as 100 yards many of our brave fighting men lay wounded and dying, the fire was so intense that their commanders had called off all Medivacs. How many of these young soldiers knew that this was their last day on earth, that they would never see their families again.
Imagine the surprise when an unarmed Huey, piloted by Ed Freeman, like an angel through the incoming firestorm to pull as many of these men as he could fit aboard to safety. Even after being ordered not to fly, he came anyway. Not just this once, but 13 more times.
How many men did he save that day, with no regard to his own safety, or even his orders, he did what he knew was right.
Ed Freeman, Medal of Honor Recepient, died at the age of 80 in his Boise Idaho home this week.
Why did he not get the attention that he deserved? God Bless Ed, and all those like him that gave everything they had.

To all who have served: Thank you. Freedom is never free, and it is protected by many who endure much pain and hardship in defense of it. Sometimes it is easy to forget that while we relax at our picnic tables, thousands of American men and women are currently serving throughout the world far from family and friends. Thousands more have made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedoms during the course of our nation's history. Once again: Thank you.

Well, still no Memorial Day Massage(at least to my knowledge), but all you active, reserve, retired servicepeople continue to have my thanks.
Also, just found out that my wife's great uncles almost all served in WWII in some capacity- unsure how exactly, but I do know our black servicepeople did not often get to serve in the positions they wished. They all survived the war and went on to live their lives, but they passed long before I even met her. I would have loved to know them.

Thanks good friends. Your words are taken to heart. These posts have kept me company many a late night in dry and desert-like parts. If you ever find yourselves in the position of purchasing a cup of coffee for a member of the Armed Forces, please do so. In an almost divinely inspired way, every time I am approaching rock bottom with job frustration, some kind-hearted stranger offers to buy me a cup o' joe or a Coke. It has happened in restaurants, gas stations, and airports. And EVERY time, it is the one thing I truly needed. Thank you to those wonderful strangers who keep me going.

It's a little late but my buddy chuck(Charles but nobody calls him that) over in afganistan wanted me to post a "your welcome" from him and his fellow marines.
As former Navy I would like to add to his sentiments. Service members of all stripes do appreciate your thanks as much as you appreciate our service.
