DarkWhite as I am local, if you require any printing for the sessions, such as character sheets, Pathfinder organised play documentation ect, I should be able to organise the printing and deliver on the Thursday.

Hi DarkDM,

Printing could be a really good help. When I travelled to Adelaide last Christmas with a bag-full of presents (Pathfinder Betas) I was slugged for excess baggage. So anything I don't have to carry with me through the airport will be a big help.

If you're playing the scenarios at GenConOz, I don't know that you'll be wanting to order, download and print the actual scenarios (*unless there are some you've already played/GMed), because a) that's a lot of printing - time and cost; b) *you don't want to inadvertently spoil the adventures for yourself; c) as an organiser/GM, I probably want to ensure I have my own copy of scenarios in a briefcase hand-cuffed to my wrist, because if something goes wrong, there's going to be a lot of upset players.

However, there's still pre-gen character sheets, guide to organised play, and probably other things that could be printed in Brisbane to lighten my load.

It's a pity the faction missions and players chronicles sheets aren't generic (I realise they can't be), because each scenario needs enough copies of these for distribution among the players, and that multiplies very quickly! They're also kind of spoilery.

OTOH, it might be a wise precaution to have a back-up copy of scenarios printed in Brisbane, incase the plane gets hijacked and terrorists saw through my wrist and make off with the briefcase ... but I think that's an outside chance?

I'll try and organise myself early with a bag of what I want to bring (can't game without my flipmats!), so I can share the load between the GMs that are travelling, and suggest things that might be useful to have ready and waiting for us in Brisbane.

Thanks for the offer, DarkDM :-)

Of those that aren't how many will be sending a representative from their local playgroups in their stead?

Xeno

(Nothing to be suspicious of members of other factions. I'm sure the Taldor players aren't up to anything... much)

As reported in another thread:

DarkWhite wrote:

Based on Prestige Points successfully completed from tables I've reported:

Andoran - 53
Cheliax - 33
Osirion - 43
Qadira - 35
Taldor - 31

Andoran (53) the clear leader, with Osirion (43) doing well.

Cheliax, Qadira and Taldor pretty even with only 4 points separating them (though Taldor currently appear to be trailing).

I don't know who will be attending GenConOz, or what factions they'll be playing. Further, many of the players I've GMed for have played most of the scenarios available, have higher tier characters, and the scenarios offered at GenConOz will most likely be played at low-tier to encourage new players and new Pathfinder RPG characters. So really, it's impossible to predict.

A dozen Pathfinder sessions have just been added to GenConOz, available now for player registration. Previous sessions sold out within the first couple of weeks listed, so get in quick!

Go wild!

Scarab Sages 1/5

Awesome!

I will be home soon and hopefully finalise the rego desk!

I just noticed event RPG00109 has a different start and finish time (3pm-7pm) to the other afternoon events. Os that right DW?

Hi Masika,

Thanks for picking this up. It does appear to be out by an hour. I might have mistakenly submit the wrong time, or the con organisers might have bumped it due to table allocations being full.

I've emailed the con organisers to ask if this can be returned to the 2pm-6pm timeslot so that it runs concurrently with other Pathfinder sessions (not least because it allows the GM a meal break between sessions!) But if it can't move, we'll run with it as it is.

Cheers,
DarkWhite

Liberty's Edge

Yes. Its the ONLY one because otherwise it just didn't fit into the schedule of table allocations. There are two submission that didn't make the cut due to nothing but a lack of space.

If for whatever reason there is a cancellation, Pathfinder will be getting priority for nothing but its populatity.

If things go to plan, we have some very exciting news for Pathfinder Fans.

Thanks for the confirmation Kalraan, I thought this might have been the case. And thanks for squeezing us in!

Scarab Sages 1/5

Kalraan,

Emailed, PMed and left voice mail... when is a good time to talk to you about a few thing?

The Exchange

I finally got myself sorted and booked in for Gen con this year. My first one, (though I went to a comic convention last year). All booked up for Saturday's two parter, and then two scenarios on Sunday.

Would love to do all four days but working on 17th and 18th unfortunately.

Looking forward to meeting some of you there hopefully.

Anyone got any info on Pathfinder society stuff running in Brisbane before this event? My home game is starting to stagnate very rapidly and I'd be keen to get more regular gaming in.

Cheers

Hi Wrath, thanks for signing up. I'm really looking forward to catching up with Pathfinder players I've met at previous events, and new-comers to the Society from around Australia. It should be a great weekend!

Conventions are a great place to meet other players, so make sure to introduce yourself and ask among the other players between sessions, as I'm sure you won't be the only one seeking other Pathfinder gaming opportunities after the con.

Scarab Sages 1/5

I dunno what is happening with Rego table and internet access at Gencon.

I have PMed, emailed and left voice mail but no reply. I think I might have missed the window to organise something.

I wouldn't be too concerned. IIRC conversation with Ian last week, he may already have the matter in hand.

Scarab Sages 1/5

Nice to be told considering I went to efforts...

Anyways... Gencon is something to look forward to in Sept!

Lantern Lodge 4/5

I might be reading more into it, and may be wrong - all I'm suggesting is no need to panic. Certainly follow it up. But if they're not answering emails, they're probably busy with GenConOz fast approaching. It took a week after I submit the additional Pathfinder sessions before I heard any response from them. I myself have been busy with work and family visiting from Adelaide this week, so I know what it's like just trying to get in front of a keyboard to reply to emails.

Speaking of the extra sessions, I'm rather surprised booking have been slow compared to the previous sessions which booked out in record time. So what's happening people? I pulled strings to get these extra GMs on board.

Anyone attended GenConOz last year familiar with the process, if sessions are still available, do people arrive and book on the day? I'm hoping that's the case.

On the one-hand, I don't want anyone who wants to play Pathfinder missing out; but on the other hand, I'd rather not have GMs who have paid travel and accommodation to attend GenConOz being idle because there are not enough players to run their tables.

I'm not really concerned, GenConOz is still two months away, I was just a little surprised with the initial rush, and then slowdown.

Scarab Sages 1/5

I think they will fill. There will always be a few late comers and folks who are saving up. :)

The Exchange

I keep going back and checking if the games I booked are filling up. As of last night, I was the only one booked for three of them :(

Hoping that changes, as I wouldn't want to miss out due to the cancellation. Ah well, whatever will happen will happen.

Cheers

Liberty's Edge

Just signed up for a few games on sat and sun. The spots do appear to be filling up fast. Nothing else available on sun arvo or night and very little on the sat. Still a few spots on thur and fri probably because most people are working. I will play if able but have offered my services to Ian on those days. Ian has mentioned that possibly they will be getting a few more PFS tables going but can't promise anything. I hope so cause I know of two players that have missed out on spots on sunday. Much wootage to the news that Jason will be making an appearance and also that there will be a paizo stand being provided by their local disti. So I guess I'll be picking up a few map packs etc. I also know that Andre from campaign coins will have a store there so you can pick up some real coinage for you games (I absolutely love his stuff).

Apart from that, see you all there. Maybe we should get together for a PF pub crawl on the fri or sat night, there are quite a few good ones in the local area.

Lantern Lodge 4/5

Hi Snow Crash,

As you probably know, the first two tables per session booked out within the first couple of weeks, so I called in the assistance of a couple more GMs to run additional tables. These additional tables languished for a while, but I've noticed them filling up within the week since GenConIndy and the launch of the Pathfinder RPG core rulebook - no surprise there.

I love the campaign coins, I have one set already, but they since released a new set of different denominations. I'll have to check them out, but I'll be carrying so much gamer books and Pathfinder Society printouts that I'm wary of excess baggage.

Many have approached me regarding a PF pub gathering. I'd love to though I'm a coffee drinker, not a beer drinker, and I'm GMing every session 9am-11pm, so I think I'm gonna be boring and get a good night sleep - GMing can be exhausting. But by the sound of it, there'll be many other Pathfinders wanting to exchange survival stories over a tankard of ale, so by all means ...

I would be up for something Thursday/Friday nights. My wife will be up Saturday so... she is a non gamer person. :)

Family and friends will take my time Saturday night for sure.

So I get an email the other day from Gen con telling me Jason Buhlman is coming to Oz. Anyone got any idea of times or days he's actually going to be there. I only get to go for Saturday and Sunday and am pretty booked up on games in that time. It would be good to see the man himself and say thanks for a great effort on the rules.

Cheers

I thought that was assumption at this point, a very good assumption, but assumption none-the-less, I don't recall anyone having confirmed this yet?

Assumption it is... I thought it was good to be positive. :)

Hi guys, sorry for the noob question, but will the events being run at GenConOz be n00b friendly? I havn't played D&D in a while (3rd ed), but have heard great things about Pathfinder and want to give it a try.

I've signed up for Scenario 1 on Thursday night and the Conversion and Creation prior to that to guarantee a spot, so hopefully the answer is yes!

Scarab Sages 1/5

I think so. I am noob.. as this will be my first time RPGing at an event!

Masika wrote:

Thanks. However, I meant more that I won't have a working knowledge of the rules, having not played the system :)

Lantern Lodge 4/5

Hi Grimnak,

I'm expecting Pathfinder Society will attract a mix of both experienced and first-time players, so I'm sure you won't be alone.

If you've played 3rd Edition D&D, then Pathfinder should be very familiar to you, as the game is backward compatible with 3rd Edition - some of the classes have some new abilities, some of the spells have been re-written, but it basically still plays the same as it always has.

Pregenerated character sheets are available if needed, so new players unfamiliar with Pathfinder can arrive at the table without any preparation and start play right away. The GM and other players at the table are usually happy to help a new player learn the ropes.

Though players familiar with the game usually get more out of playing a character they have created themselves, and if you're even somewhat familiar with 3rd Edition, then I'd highly recommend giving it a shot if you have the time. You'll need the following resources:

In any case, Pathfinder Society scenarios are usually four hours of adventuresome fun for beginners and experienced players alike. I certainly hope you find that to be the case.

Welcome to the Society!

Hey DarkWhite, how is the fact that I only have the PDF of the rules going to affect game play?

While I'm pretty fluent with the system, there are times when referencing the rules is pretty important. Am I going to need to print part of the behemoth out? (I don't have a laptop r other digital evice that allows me to read it at the table sorry).

Is there some miraculous chance that copies fo the hardcover will be available at the con for purchase? (Ace Comics up here never even got the book in, they claim their order was eaten by Paizo having to fill the American preorders first. I kinda find that hard to believe but willing to give them benefit of the doubt :) )

Cheers

Lantern Lodge 4/5

Hi Wrath,

I think Jason is going to be staffing a Paizo sales table, so I'm hoping there'll be copies of the core rulebook on sale, but I don't know definitively, and I don't know how many copies will be available.

I'll be bringing an extra copy of the rulebook so I'll have a GM copy and a copy for players to pass around among themselves. However, I can't speak for the other GMs attending, and if that's the only copy being passed around a table of six players, you might have to wait your turn.

I'd recommend printing pages relevant to your character. Eg, one page for your Race, a few pages for your Class, and any specific pages you think are important for Feats, Spells, etc.

Particularly as Pathfinder has introduced some new and altered rules, it's a good idea of having your Race/Class/other relevant pages printed and in your character sheet folder as a reminder. Last session, there were a few instances of players forgetting some aspect of the new rules, eg a half-orc player forgot he can continue fighting for one round below 0 hit-points. Having these printed out and with you at the table help to ensure you won't forget something important when you need it.

Having said that, there's probably no need to go overboard. If "Magic Missile" is a spell you use a dozen times each game, and you've got it memorised, then you might not want to print a separate page just for that one spell.

Liberty's Edge

DarkWhite,

Thanks for the info. I'm not going to have time to read the rules prior to GenCon, and was hoping to purchase the rulebook at GenCon also. I am also working my way through the Pathfinder Society Guide at the moment.

However (luckily), the level 1 Cleric pregen is very similar to the concept I was thinking of regardless. Presumably I can copy the mechanics of this pregen (stats, feats, equipment, etc), rename, choose a faction/traits and write up backstory and be good to go?

Looking forward to doing some roleplaying, it's certainly been awhile!

Cheers.
G

Lantern Lodge 4/5

Pregens are actually good to use as a starting base and file off the serial numbers. Eg, if you'd like to purchase a different weapon, swap out a Feat, or worship a different God (swap out your domains) you could do so and call it your own character. So go right ahead!

If you're familiar enough with the rules, you could even redistribute ability or skill points; but at this point, it's probably easier to create a character from scratch.

If you want to play a Pregen for three scenarios and advance beyond 1st level, you'll need to transfer it to a full character sheet, so at some point you'll need to understand where all those bonuses are derived from.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks, it's more about having a character ready to go so I can jump in and play in the event without holding everyone up (too much). I'll write up what I can on a regular character sheet and bring both sheets.

Appreciate your help!

There will be a limited number of copies available for sale at the con. But the number is limited so I would get in first thing on the thursday if you can cause they will go FAST.

Unfortunatley Snow Crash, that's not really a possibility for me. I'm working Thursday and Friday (teacher) and getting to the con early on either day is not gonna happen. Guess I'll take my chances with Friday night which is the first chance I'll get to be there. No biggy if I miss them, I have the PDF and wil print what I need. Cheers

Will there be other Paizo books available for purchase at the con? I've been eyeing hard copies of Gods and Magic and the Golarion Campaign Setting for a while now, but if this way I can avoid the shipping fees... that'd be excellent.

I can't say definitely which books will be available but yes there will be a bunch of paizo stuff for sale by Paizos local disti plus I'm sure of few of the FLGSs will have some paizo stuff available. I know there are quite a few books that I a looking at picking up.

Hi! Dumb question time (I'm a grumpy old grognard so you'll have to forgive me).

I'm scheduled to play Pathfinder Society Scenario 14: The Many Fortunes of Grandmaster Torch (Tiers 1-7) on Sat 19th (7pm-11pm) and I'm a little confused over what level character I should make. 1? 4? 7? Or something else?

Lantern Lodge 4/5

Hi Ant,

There's no such thing as a dumb question, though there are plenty of dumb answers (hopefully this isn't one of them).

All Pathfinder Society characters start at first level. Have a read through the Pathfinder Society Guide to Organised Play, it will guide you step-by-step through the process of making a legal Pathfinder Society character.

Though we're expecting a large proportion of first-time Pathfinder Society players at GenConOz, some players might bring characters they have already played through a few Pathfinder Society scenarios (you gain a level for every three scenarios played), and there is opportunity to gain a couple more levels by playing scenarios at GenConOz. So while I'm expecting to play most games at the lowest tier, there is the option of playing at a higher tier if players at the table have characters of a suitable level.

Ideally, everyone should be able to play the character they brought to the table. However, a player bringing a higher-level character to a low-level table could be asked if they have a secondary character they wish to play. A player bringing a low-level character to a higher-level table could be given the opportunity to player a higher level pregenerated character for that session only. Otherwise, players may be given an opportunity to swap tables with another player if their character level isn't appropriate for the table. But I'm hoping these options won't be necessary.

Thanks, DarkWhite. That was a well-worded and very informative answer. You are a scholar and a gentleman.

Scarab Sages 1/5

I changed to play that session a while ago.

Fingers crossed I will have a 2/3rd level ranger... or a 1st level rogue. :)

Liberty's Edge

I for one will be starting at level 1 at the con... no chances to play any down here.

Thinking a paladin at this point, or maybe a sorcerer, or maybe a ranger, or... *sigh*

Liberty's Edge

Oooh, Not long now.
I actually start 2 weeks holiday this weekend that I took of just to get mentally prepared for GenConOz09.

Liberty's Edge

Many people playing arcane casters?

Everyone on the boards seems to be talking about bringing fightery type characters, lots of paladins, rangers, rogues with the odd cleric. Just curious as to if we'll have any arcane types out there who are coming?

I'll be bringing a wizard, so at least in the sessions I'm in there'll be an Arcansist along. Albeit a first level one.

Hi All,

Heading up for Gen Con with a bunch of gamers. There's five for us that have been playing since D&D first addition but are new to Pathfinder. Most of us have received our newly minted, OS ordered core rule books and will be fine with the laws (ain't that much of a jump for 3.5 players) but a little lagging in World Bling. I guess that good news for DMs because there's nothing worse than a player that knows more about the game world than you do (Forgotten Realms anyone?).

Masika - Your with us for Eye of the Crocodile King & Perils of the Pirate Pact. Your Ranger will fit in just fine with the party.

We're not playing the late session Friday night if anyone is up for a beer. We will be heading out in West End.

Anyone else realise it is International Talk like a Pirate Day on Saturday the 19th? Morning Tide and Perils of the Pirate Pact. ARRH-ARRH ME MATEYS!
