I'm pretty sure you have to have a current Pathfinder Society character that high to play those events. I'm sure you can find the rules in the Guide to Organized Play that I believe is a free download.

You are correct, you must have a character of that range (which would be the 1-5 level tier).
Details here, and in the Guide on that page (right side, free download)
My friend phoned and was told that pregen characters would be available if we don't have characters of our own.

Similar to above posts - I was able to edit my events and save them, but they did not update on my schedule. When I go back to my events page, they are checked correctly. It is just the schedule that is not updating. Logged out, cleared cookies, logged back in - same story. (#23 on FRI and #24 on SAT do not appear in my schedule)
EDIT: After saving the changes several times, they now show up in my schedule. So please ignore this post.

Sorry, I'm still confused. I'm the husband of Dire Elf. I signed us up for the Society this morning by just clicking on the Join link, but we haven't done any characters yet. Then I signed us up for events and we have them on our schedule. Is it OK that we make the characters up between now and the con, or if they check today and we don't have a character listed with the Society will we get the boot from those events? I hope not because I think all the events that were open were ones that needed a Pathfinder Society character. We didn't get ANYTHING in the open lottery.

You can make up characters between now and the con. But you have to make 1st level characters, which means you can only play in the two lower level scenarios (#23 and #24). You won't be able to play in the higher level scenarios until your characters are that level, and it takes 3 scenarios to go up 1 level. But 2 games are better than none! :)

I have a problem.
I added two events to my schedule today:
1. Life action Yetisburg
2. The Forgotten Realms three part
One saved successfully and added to my schedule just fine (Yetisburg).
The other did not, even though it says it still has slots available. It remains checked in grey like I'm signed up and indeed if I try to sign up for anything else it gives me an angry red message saying that I am already signed up an event at that time.
My question: Am I actually signed up for the Forgotten Realms three part?
I would like to be.
Gary

This is starting to get a tad frustrating. The sign-up is not working properly, you can't talk to a human when you call the help number, and there are no clear "directions" on how to change your sign-ups. I also wanted to know if family members can switch events amongst ourselves and I called and emailed over a week ago to get an answer and still have yet to get one. I'm flying across the entire country to attend this event, and really don't like the feeling of uncertainty regarding my schedule and my family's schedules. Can we please get some clear directions/updates from PaizoCon organizers? I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling frustrated atm...

Gary, as an update, now the event is no longer checked for me in the events page.

Sooo.... I'm attempting to sign up for cursed lot, cause it says 4 out of six slots taken (and I have my drums of doom polished) but the website keeps not taking it... and I had to drop my other items in order to get it to not complain about conflicts... so... is the event sign up actually working? Is the information on there accurate? Should I sign back up for the original events before they get full?

Frank Kaehler |
Certainly I am missing something. I see others managed to sign up for games at Paizocon. I have not a clue how they did this. Certainly there is informaton about it and I was able to down-load the events schedule. It is about 5P on 6/1. There should be some way to do this? Or should my wife and I just show up and hope for the best?

Have you already bought your tickets to the convention?
If so here is the link

Go to the center of the page and you will find the begin event signup.

I typed up an incredibly long explanation for today's frustrations and watched the board gnomes eat it.
*sigh*
Here's the short of it:
*Gary has been working on an issue all day where the system won't accurately reflect who got into the last slot of an event in the check boxes, but will accurately reflect in your schedule. Your personal schedule is correct--the check boxes may not be. Gary thinks he *might* have solved that issue, but we don't know yet.
*bettytr, at this point just hold on to your schedules the way they are. We've been discussing for a while now how we might implement a trade system but are afraid of a number of issues that might cause system-wise. We're talking about any way to do this that doesn't cause any additional problems. Don't drop anything right now in an attempt to trade--the person immediately trying to add that event might already find it full.
*We are just as frustrated as all of you and can't apologize more profusely than, holy crap we're really sorry about all this. If we do this again next year, we're doing the sign-ups entirely different. This has been a lot more frustrating and difficult than we ever thought and, luckily, we've got a year to make next year right. For this year, please be patient with us. We're trying to solve this boondoggle as fast as possible.

Just knowing that y'all are working on it helps. When we see no updates for a really long time it makes us nervous. :) I'll be patient...for now. :p

Frank,
We sent you emails entitled "Important message about PAIZOCON 2009 event sign-ups" on May 5, "Event Rankings are Now Live" on May 21, "PAIZOCON Events Update" on May 28, and "PAIZOCON Event Open Signup Delayed" on May 29. If you didn't get these, you might want to make sure that your spam filters are set to allow email from people at paizo.com.
But yes, just head to the events page.

I've been trying for hours and the spot has shown "available" for hours...when did it actually "fill up?"

![]() |

I tried getting into one of the two imaginary spots in the Cursed Lot on Saturday, but it wasn't showing up in my schedule. I took Josh's comment that "your schedule was always right" as the indication that it was full, and went back to re-take my original 3 seminars.
My schedule is showing that I am back to my original schedule again, but the events page shows "This event conflicts with How to Break Into Print in Kobold Quarterly." next to the Saturday Cursed Lot, in red.
I'm sorta ignoring this, but the bold red text is making me nervous. Am I OK?

That's actually what part of the problem was—the system wasn't always counting the last seat in the event properly for display purposes. That is, it knew it was full, so it wouldn't let you in, all the while incorrectly telling you there was one seat left. I can't tell you exactly when it filled up, but the behavior you're reporting indicates that it was already full before you tried to save it the very first time.

Sigh...first I get skipped in the lottery system...then I get excited thinking one of the original events I really wanted was available but it wasn't really...then the special game they set up for the people that got skipped is happening on Sunday when I won't be there because we are leaving early to go to Vancouver. It's not my day!!!

I'm sure that's just a display thing, but I'll have Gary confirm tomorrow. You're in the three seminars, not Cursed Lot.

You know, I had fully intended keep my schedule as it was, but I just got too greedy, seeing those open seats to Jason's game!
I am happy just the way it is, now. (Backs away from the computer slowly)

Both are correct, but neither are complete. Pathfinder Society organized play is built around the premise that you'll create a character to play in a series of events, with your character progressing in level as you play through scenarios.
So, if you want to play as a Pathfinder Society member, you'll need to create a 1st-level character, and only play in lower level scenarios until your character advances.
If you just want to play these for the fun of it, pregens will be provided. However, any scenarios you play in this fashion can never be played for Pathfinder Society "credit" should you decide to do that in the future.
And the "Official" people here are the ones with job titles in parenthesis after their names.

So, the event was already filled, but the form showed three slots and let me sign up for them, but they were in fact already filled and it confused the code between the sign up and the schedule?
Kind of. Except that it didn't *really* let you sign up for them—it just *looked* like it did in one place. The "Show My Schedule" button is (and was) presenting the truth; the main events schedule was misleading (but appears to be fixed now).

Lizzie,
There were two special games for people who got skipped... the other is Friday. We'll see if we can get you into that one. Unfortunately, it's the same time as Pathfinder Society Scenario #24: Decline of Glory, so we'll need to drop you from that one to add you to the special.

That would be awesome! Feel free to drop me from that one! My mom is playing that one at the con so she can run it for the rest of us back in Tampa. :)

So, if I understand correctly, the two lower tier events we are signed up for we can make our own characters and get credit for those, and play non-credit earning pregens for the higher level events. That would seem very fair.
Thank you for clearing that up!

No problem!
You know, if you want to get tricky, you could try and find a couple of other low-level Pathfinder Society events to play before the show, so that you could level-up mid-PAIZOCON and actually get credit for higher-level events...

![]() |

I couldn't check or uncheck any boxes, so I couldn't swap out stuff I didn't want, etc., etc. I just saw greyed out boxes. Maybe I got to it too late (this was much earlier in the day).
Sounds like you didn't click the "Begin Event Signup" button just below the instruction and just above the event listings. Or that you didn't scroll down past the first few events, which are full and thus not open to move into.

Just to be sure we're all on the same page, your 1st level character needs to be made with the character creation rules in the free Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play PDF that you download here.

The tricky part is that when I search within a 200 mile radius of my downtown Seattle zipcode, the only events that show as upcoming are the scenarios being run during PaizoCon.
