Venting about the mailman and "priority mail".

So I get the email that #21 "shipped 04/16/09 via USPS Priority Mail (estimated 2 to 5 business days in transit)".

Here it is, 4/28 and no #21. Why does mail from paizo always seem extra-slow??

USPS, you suck.

Well, you see, most people define "business days" as Monday through Friday. But, in reality, the CORRECT definition is "days in which business is conducted." Therefore, since the entire USPS decided not to do anything on the 17th-23rd, did some stuff on the 24th, and then slacked off again until the 27th, the 28th is really only the second business day since your order. :)

I have it on good authority they actually think that way. Be sure to get a calendar listing all the Federal holidays, then chalk-off the day before and after a Federal holiday.

Also, annoying: my "tracking" for UPS goes something like this:

June 1 0502-order received
0504-order processed at Smithton,VA facility
0512-order left Smithton, VA
0540-traffic jam
0612-order processed at airfield
0701-order in-flight
1351-order processed Anchorage facility
1432-order nearing MP 255, North to Fairbanks
1900-order down the road from your house
June 1 1904-order at your door

*ding-dong*

USPS Tracking...

June 1 1400-order received
June 3 1000-order processed
June 4 1600-order left Lazytown, OH
June 9 1400-order at Fairbanks PO (and the letter carrier has already left for the route, so my box will sit at the PO unless I go stand in line for 70 minutes, during the work day, and pick it up)
June 10 1000-order on the way to my house
June 10 1600-order at PO (requires signature)
June 11 0900-order returned to sender (no signature)

No actually, USPS tracking tends to be three lines, processed, left origin, arrived broken and busted at destination. :-(

Hell,

the USPS delivers on Saturdays so that should be a "business day" for them too. Priority Mail=If we feel like it

"Priority Mail" is a laywerism; they don't specify that it's high priority, or low priority, or what. Without a qualifier, the word "priority" is useless. They might as well just call it "mail."

However, despite the fact that we Paizonians get many excuses to complain about the USPS, it is in fact one of the better run government services, and is quite possibly one of the best postal services in the world.

Still, though...being that late is ridiculous.

I switched to Priority Mail to save money 4 shipments ago. Of those four, only one arrived on time. One was late and showed up after having been delivered to the wrong address; two are still unaccounted for.

So, yeah. Not really feeling the USPS love at this point.

Somehow, I don't find this re-assuring. :(

for me UPS is cheaper, insured, trackable and is almost exactly 5 business days every shipment... just saying...

So far my postal worker has been very good for the Hermitage.

At my old apartment I went through a pattern of orders disappearing though.

I would like to say that the vast majority of the time (so much so that the times it hasn't been true, they stick out in my memory) the USPS has been excellent for me.

I use UPS on my subscriptions mainly for the tracking.
