IT, one of my favorite movies.

Rev:

Spoiler:
If you're dissatisfied with Madda and wish to re-roll, it's certainly feasible, but would be best to do before the party goes gallivanting about outside of town.

If you're merely frustrated with rolls, you have my sympathies. I saw this fight going much differently before the tactics came out and the dice started tumbling.

I hope you're not considering quitting altogether!

Human

Grumpysauce

Spoiler:

Never fear, I'm going nowhere. It's just terrible rolling, which is nobody's fault. If she survives, I'll take a long hard look at how to use her tactically - i.e. with more intelligence than I've shown so far!

If she doesn't make it, she doesn't. It goes with the territory that you lose characters from time to time. I'll roll up someone else and put her down to experience. Either way, you're doing a grand job. I'm a firm believer in taking what the dice throw at you, so don't worry about it. Go kill my sheepdog :D

Inspired by Rev's earlier post with a photo of her hometown, I googled this photo of Payne's Prairie, about five minutes from my house.

Anyone else care to share their local sights?

Male Humanoid Lurker 1/ Nerd 1

Why not. Holland, Michigan. Here are the two most famous things about Holland: tulips and a windmill.

Gods I hate going out... stupid real life.

Hey in the whole Twin Strike situation I emailed WOTC cust srv. They're totally stummped right now. They have to check with the designers to see how the abilities work together

NP - I got this reply on the Paizo 4e boards, which I am pretty comfortable with.

Eager to hear what the WotC folks have to say tho.

Karnn is up, by the way, and he has some aberration arse to kick! ;P

M half-orc Dungeon Master lvl 18

I live in Worcester, MA. It's not very scenic, but there is a statue of a guy raping a turtle.

Human

Payne's Prairie looks exactly like an adventure setting to me. Beautiful and slightly creepy. The Holland picture and the turtle both made me laugh. A lot.

Rev Rosey wrote:

Payne's Prairie is both of those things, especially so if you consider alligators and snakes to be creepy.

The turtle made me laugh as well - I stole the link to drop it onto facebook for a few friends.

Human

For complex family reasons (i.e. I inherited it from my father), I have a stuffed alligator looking over my shoulder in my room. I grew up with it and have always had a soft spot for them.

Male Humanoid Lurker 1/ Nerd 1

Now that I think about it (in other words, looked in Wikipedia), there is more to Holland than a windmill and the Tulip Time Festival. L Frank Baum, author of The Wizard of Oz, lived here (or visited or something, Wikipedia isn't that clear), and Sufjan Stevens made a song about here. Still nothing that interesting, though.

For those still up for another PBP

Spoiler:
One good turn deserves another. I offer an epic level 4e PBP entitled Winter of the Witch. 22nd level PCs of sufficient moral fiber are welcome to join. Rev and Lazaro have already signified their interest. Four more slots are open.

Male Humanoid Lurker 1/ Nerd 1

Why not, I'm interested. Any particular reason for the spoiler?

Dark Archive

Just to get your attention. :D

M half-orc Dungeon Master lvl 18

Thanks for the invite, but I've hit my pbp limit. Besides, my first paragon character doesn't seem to be holding up too well, epic may be too far out of reach. Actually, none of our paragon characters are doing great right now. Maybe you should hold off until we all die in this one.

Radavel wrote:

I'll nab one of those remaining spots, assuming they're still open.

No idea what class/role though.

Ghettowedge: Y'all will be fine, I am sure. No-one is out of Surges, and most (if not all) of you still have dailies left.

Winter is Coming - A Discussion Thread

Apologies for the (hopefully brief) derailment, but I am not comfortable proceeding at the moment, as detailed below.

Lazaro: Upon further research, inspired by the discovery mentioned in the spoiler here, I noticed a few things: the Perception check you spoilered for me Here took you this roll (1d20+5-10=6), this roll (1d20+5-10=-3) and this roll (1d20+5-10=5) before settling on this (1d20+5-10=13)as a posted result.

I can point to several other noticeable occasions of such behavior, (multiple rolls spread over several "misspelled" character names (and involving more PbP characters than just Karrn, unfortunately.), all within a few minutes of each other, with the best result posted) just over the last several days - after a few incidents, I really lost the urge to track back further.

While I appreciate your desire to win, I do not think this behaviour at all fair to the other players in the game, or myself as a DM (or as a player in other games, for that matter...), and do not appreciate the level and breadth of deception involved.

My first instinct would be to ask that you retire from the game, but having thought about it for a bit, I am willing to let you continue if you wish (subject to the opinions of the other players we share the game with), with the caveat that I will be checking each and every roll you post, and not adjudicating your turn until I am satisfied it is fair and above-board.

Since this is a shared game, not just my baby, the floor is open for other players to chime in as well - ultimately, the choice is up to Laz and the rest of y'all, as to how we continue. (assuming you still wish to continue, that is... I do, but can't DM without players!)

Shadow Lodge

Male Human

Before I post I have to ask Cacophonik something

Cacophonik

Spoiler:

First of tell your wife thank you for the post she made on my blog I really do appreciate it. Stupid question before I continue, how were you able to find my myspace page?

Second I could say alot about this, but I won't. I am leaving the game. and I had fun especially with Sundered Heart.

I would like you to ask this person about the situation. I ask only because while I post the replies I've always trusted him to make my rolls (the whole sleep most of the day and reply when I wake up or get home).

Unforunatly I shouldn't have. And I even if you do check with him I don't expect you or anyone else to believe him or me.

I will say in my defense that I do not except cheating (online or in real life). But I trust my players rolls and when cheating is found I take it up with the player.

I will say guilty or innocent I do find it embarrassing to post this where everyone can see it. While it is good to make such an act public, especially when all I could do is quit and go on and do this in others DM's games. I would have like for you have brought this matter up privately first. Then if you felt my reasons, excusses or whatever weren't good enough, you could have posted this.

So even if I was found innocent of this, though I am guilty in the fact that I trusted someone to do the rolls and leave the url for me for me to post later, I could never post anywhere else.

But while upset, embarrassed about the post. I'm not angry you took the path you needed to bring this problem to light. I thank you and totally respect you for that, plus for some strange reason you and the others really seem to care about my well being. More than people I've known forever and the medical officals around here. I mean gods man you told your wife about me! (puts simpathy card away)

Without this I would have never none my own brother was F***ING around with me. (Again I don't expext you to believe it, but I have to tell my side of this)

I will say it's been great gaming with everyone. And I do hope that no matter what you decide you will still stay an alt for my Falcon's Hollow game, heh I'm trying to convince you of innocense and all I can thing about is gaming. In my experience you laugh or cry about this situation and I think it's better to try to laugh at this! Pisses me off though that all those crits are tainted, damn... But I still find it amusing he let the fumbles get posted.

Anyways I ask for you to make your opinion and judge me after that (though in my experience, especially with something like this, most people, me included, have already formed an opinion).

Can ask for a favor if that's alright? Would you mind posting to Rev and the others DM's I game with, that I won't be posting until this is relsoved. While it makes drives me nuts that I'll have to talk to more than just you it has to be done.

As I said I'd like for you to talk to my brother about this, and form an opinion after that. After that I'll talk to Pat, Rev, Fabes and Radavel aswell. Mostly it comes down to righting the wrong here. than dealing with the others. You probably won't, but I hope you will, contact me here: crosis_nm@hotmail.com

To talk about this more.

I apologize for any wrong doing I, or my brother, may have done. It was not my intention to disrespect you or any of the other players.

*Again I dont expect you to believe me this is the internet after all. People lie

**I know I asked you to do me a favor, I hope you will, but I have two more sorry. How do you delete a invisiblecastle acct? As long as the account remains he can use my email to change the password. Also with me quiting the game, if you decide just to kill off Karrn could you atleast do it some kind of funny or action packed way. He was entertaining and should atleast go out that way.

**Wow who would have thought after I woke up after a nap I'd have to be defending myself after being called out for cheating

Rev/Radavel

Spoiler:

I'd appreciate it if you both emailed me about this matter. I think you both have it but incase: crosis_nm@hotmail.com

If you want you can read my reply to Cacophonik to save some time. Ask anything you want and I'll answer as best and as truthfully as possible. This is the internet and people lie.

Of course Falcon's Hallow is on hold till I get this settled and I hope you all will still continue when I continue my post. I would ask that any of character be removed from your games till such time as you can trust me. I do have a couple of favors to ask if that's alright. Would you tell Pat and Fabes to remove my characters aswell. And do either of you know how to delete a invisiblecastle acct? Changing the password won't help I only use one email address and my brother could just gain access with that

Like I told Cacophonik I never meant to disrespect any of you. And I apologize for this happening. It's been a great time playing with all of you. Especially having Clovis and Kidlat around. And Rev I can't thank you enough for those write up you sent. Though I doubt I'll get use them on the boards now. But when I do find a home game I'll be sure to use them.

Spoiler:

Mistakes happen to us all. My instinct is to say, point made, let it lie. I'm happy for Laz to continue. Sounds like family trouble to me.

Laz

Spoiler:

email sent. As far as I'm concerned, keep going.

M half-orc Dungeon Master lvl 18

I don't understand why somebody would cheat, but it's not going to ruin a game for me. Everybody deserves a second chance, so I'm for Laz staying.

Dark Archive

The more the merrier I say. Let's game.

Game update forthcoming this afternoon (busy day IRL) but:

Laz: 1: Hope my wife's info helps - she is in the medical insurance field here in Florida, and deals with situations like yours on a regular basis. I would urge you to give it a try - they should be able to offer you some answers that you have a right to.

2: Thank you for explaining the situation, instead of disappearing or responding churlishly.

3: Please keep your IC account - I am happy to have you continue playing, but I do wish to have all rolls appropriately labeled and linked, for now. I am not concerned if this requirement means you post at odd hours, or slower than your norm - this game is not meant to proceed at a certain required pace. (alternatively, you could roll me 20 or 50 d20's and link them in your profile for use when you're not available)

3: Happy to discuss the situation(s) or just chatter with you via email (matthew.everhart@cox.net), facebook chat (sent you a friend request) or via telephone (three five two - two six two - six three two two). For that matter, consider me available for any of you.

Your myspace info is linked in your profile, btw. :) (and the myspace profile you linked for your brother is invalid, unfortunately)

Rev, Ghettowedge and Radavel: Thank you for your two cents, they were appreciated and duly considered.

All: Apologies for the public drama - let's get back to business! :)

Human

Rock. Let's kick grell braincell.

Not necessary right this moment, but please toss me some ideas (vague is fine) on what sort of items you'd have on your wishlists - I will say I am not a big fan of an item-specific list... but rather something like "I would like to see something that boosts my reflex defense," or "Something that prevents me from being grabbed and gnawed upon"

Anyways, if there's something precise and specific that your character can't live without, let me know. otherwise, toss me ideas!

Human

After this little frolic something that stops monsters grabbing us sounds pretty good :D

Wondrous stuff is always fun. Finding ways to use it is the challenge in many cases and in keeping with Madda being a random collector of unconsidered trifles.

M half-orc Dungeon Master lvl 18

Didn't I already post a wishlist here?

Or are you asking for more?

ghettowedge wrote:

I have yours - was looking for some ideas from the remaining folks.

Background info on Wellspring (some redundant from earlier, some not) and what I like to refer to as Background Nuggets for each of your characters, to offer you a bit more tie-in to the storyline. (Other than "OMG! I am here because this is the adventure the DM picked!") If you object to yours, let me kow, we'll work something out. Broadcast them, ignore them 'til they smack you or keep them secret as you wish...

Situated as it is on the northern frontier, Wellspring is a place from which adventurers can mount expeditions into the Harrowswode and the Jotunspar Mountains. Rumor holds that old portals to the Feywild still stand in the forest, and that portals to darker and stranger lands can be found in the mountain peaks that are also home to the ruins of more than one empire—Nerath and ancient Arkhosia. Nestled in the small valley between two arms of the Jotunspar range, Wellspring enjoys wet summers and mild winters, as the moisture trapped by the surrounding peaks keeps the valley vibrant and green.

Beyond the riverfront square, narrow streets wind through tightly packed homes, some of which rise two or three stories. The roads are cobbled and clean. Four bridges allow passage over the various waters that run through the town, and a steep wall encircles the entire place.

Madda, Sundered Heart and Karrn:

Spoiler:
Wellspring is home to approximately 1,000 people, with an equal number living in the countryside within a mile of the walls. Humans and halflings are most common, but all folk are represented here to some small degree.

Lord Garren Criswell is the hereditary ruler of Wellspring, and is in charge of the town's justice, defense and laws. Criswell appoints a small council from among the guilders and commoners to handle the town's public business.

Wellspring's town guard (nicknamed the Blue Shields) is comprised of forty full-time members - most of whom are combat veterans – based out of Castle Criswell. Lord Criswell can also muster 200 or so militia, in times of need.

Madda:

Spoiler:
The expansive Harrowswode to the west is home to a roaming band of were-touched, who call themselves the Harrowfolk. They tolerate Wellspring, occasionally bringing pelts, woodcarvings and the occasional strange relic from some plundered ruin lost in the Jotunspar's forest-covered foothills.

Of recent note, over the last several weeks Constable Harras and his watchmen have been quietly investigating several disappearances. Missing are: Reese Whiteflour, a popular young woman who regularly rented a weekly market stall to sell her breads and twists; Jurival, a young mendicant friar in the service of Pelor, well-liked by the local eligible females despite his complete and total lack of interest in their affections; and Simon Steep, age six, the youngest of milliner Soloman Steep's eleven children.

Galad:

Spoiler:
Worship of Ioun has deep roots in these parts, dating to well before the rise (and fall) of Nerath. For the worshipers of Ioun, Wellspring is a holy site. At this location, Estered (a famous mage and theologian) received the blessing of the goddess and founded an order dedicated to protecting her gift. As a result, pilgrims come to Wellspring to pay homage to the saint at his tomb at the center of town.

Recent rumors among the patriarchy, however, seem to imply that Estered's tomb rests in the higher peaks of the Jotunspar mountains, in a fortress-temple raised by an ancient Iounian sect called the Kaorti, dedicated to the storing of dangerous or forbidden knowledge.

Setil:

Spoiler:
Two things have brought you to the small northern town of Wellspring: Your friendship with a young priest named Jurival, called by Pelor to spread his faith in the rugged frontier region and the existence there of the ancient Iounic temple known as the Mindspire, rumoured to be a repository of knowledge. Perhaps you could find there the answers to the questions that mar your sleep and burden your heart.

Sundered Heart:

Spoiler:
Perhaps it was only coincidence that the Stormcrows – a company of sellswords with whom you have had several disagreements over the years – happened to be wintering in Wellspring this year. Perhaps it was only coincidence that they had rented the best suite of rooms at the Spitting Cockerel long before you accepted Madigan Tye's offer of a partnership in the Inn. You can be damn sure it wasn't coincidence that they skipped out on the remainder of their tab (several hundred coins worth) and trashed the rooms before leaving several weeks ago ( rumour has it they hired on for a quick retrieval run into the Jotunspars). It was most certainly a coincidence that Tessa, one of the Cockerel's staff, had overheard the Stormcrow blademaster El-Ahmeir boasting of the job, and was eager enough to share the information with you, after hearing Mistress Tye weeping at the damage they'd left behind. The surly elf had been drunkenly loquacious, and Tessa proved to possess a fine memory for detail, and as a result, you're reasonably certain you know whereabouts they were heading. You're also pretty confident that they are significantly late in returning.

The Stormcrows are a small but successful company of morally bankrupt sellswords comprised of Pellen Varn, a dwarven cutthroat, Shantairra Firemantle, an eladrin firewitch, Deneva, a noble-born human warrioress, and Klaus Softstep, a wilderness scout of mixed blood. They are led by El-Ahmeir Hammani, a Dragonborn blademaster.

Karrn:

Spoiler:
You've not yet mentioned it to your “brother”, but for the last several weeks, when you are at rest you can feel your magic tugging you, urging you, calling you westward. When you perform, or are otherwise occupied, it is barely noticeable, but for the last few days, the beckoning has strengthened, as you feel the chaos you harness, the chaos that sparks your art responding to.... something. When you gaze west, the high peaks of the Jotunspar range seem to leap into focus, your ears fill with a thundering rush, as of a mighty river rolling and tumbling, and a cold breath of mountain wind seems to flutter your hair and chill the nape of your neck.

Some days, it is easy to shrug it off... lately, it has been more difficult, and you wonder what will happen when one day, it is too strong for you.

Human

Nice work. I can use that I'm sure. If I live to tell the tale at all.

M half-orc Dungeon Master lvl 18

Hey folks, I had a player drop my pbp and was wondering if any of you wanted in. It's a homebrew Nentir Vale game currently at 2nd level. The current characters are:
eladrin wizard
dragonborn paladin
halfling rogue
dwarf cleric
As you can see, all of the roles are filled, so the field is wide open. The posting rate is casual; once a day is good, but I usually even lapse on that.

Here's a link to the campaign thread.
Here's a link to the discussio thread.

Post here if you're interested. Oh, btw, I've been using a system where you post 50 rolls of each die and I apply each in order as needed. If that would be a problem, know that I've been thinking of dropping it, if just to ease up the work for me.

Male Humanoid Lurker 1/ Nerd 1

Sure, why not. Probably a Warlock, Vestige Pact.

Male Human Warlock 4

Well, if you let me in, here's what I have so far. I'll think of a last name later.

Davi, Galad's Character Builder summary, as promised:

The "houserule" button tells me your ability scores are not legal, but doesn't mention how specifically, and I can't recall what I adjusted to match your posted profile. Looks like you shorted yourself in Defenses by a significant amount - I've been using the CB version for the grell fight, so no worries there.

You are in. I'll look over the character and you should be ready to go on Thursday (I'm useless on Wednesdays and kind of busy tonight).

You'll be joining the group as you search for your missing friend, Douven Stahl, an adventurer you knew back in "big city". You heard he had been through Fallcrest and headed north to the abandoned Guardmore Monastary. A group of adventurers had also been through Fallcrest and there is a good chance he's with them. They gained a bit of fame dealing with a small kobold problem, and rumor has it they killed a dragon.

Right now, can you use Invisble Castle to post 50 rolls for each type of die over in the discussion thread?
