Is there latex in Golarion?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Yeah, I know the question may sound silly to many, but given how Absalom already discovered robotics, then I guess a material that comes from a plant whose properties were discovered around the sixteenth century isn't that far off.

I hope not... really.

OOOO, can I start with a weak one so as not to spoil the buildup?

Zon-Kuthon invented it and shared the secrets with Calistria...

Must. Resist. Off-color. Comments.

Okay...

Doing some quick Google research, I think it's entirely possible that latex exists on Golarion. It would likely come from the Mwangi Expanse, since that's currently the closest thing we have to a Southeast Asian climate. The PCS mentions that one of the characters in the back is from a Polynesian-like chain of islands in the Tian Xia region, but we haven't seen much else about that.

Anyway, if one nation can produce guns, I think that it would be possible for someone to make rubber out of a latex tree equivalent. But it probably wouldn't be very common...and it probably wouldn't come in black, either.

The simple answer is yes it probrobly can be. the harder answer is maybe. Other posters have explained the simple answer... so I'll try the harder one.

What use would latex be in the world of magic? Rubber gloves? just remove disease. condoms? Some infertility charm or potion. I guess modern slingshots are made from a latex compound, so that might up the damage for halflings who dislike their auto-proficiency.... Balloons? why when magic can make different color bubbles and spots of like that can be controlled the same way? A fashion accessory? Commoners can't afford it, and without it being invented for one of the previous uses, I don't see it happening.

So while it's easily possible, there ar plenty or reasons why it wouldn't happen as well, depends on how the DM feels like ruling

Latex..... I see. Want a named list of tailors that specialise in the stuff?

Anyway, you know why men like latex and leather on women*, and that reason doesn't really work on Golarion.

Spoiler:
Men like women to wear latex and leather because that way, they smell like a brand new car.

Is latex backwards compatible? :)

Maybe a new line of latex adorned iconics is required?

Sealtiel's already there ;-)

But I agree that Seoni could use a new look.

Oh! oh! me! me!

Durable water-proof sealing (tar goes only so far ..) for boats and plumbing.

Air tight sealing for gasworks.

Elastic straps for armor.

Compact ranged weapons builts (crossbows, balistas and catapults.

Resitant and dampening vehicule wheels.

Bungies!

And if you have rubber (latex & nylon) and silk (even spider silk no less!) you can get ... Lycra! Go wild people!

alchemy and magic works for me, so it might be

I don't think anyone would have invented LaTeX in Golarion. Although they do have printing presses and mathematics, there's not much point in creating a mark-up language without a computer to do the typesetting.

Sure...the Bayou dwelling Kobolds of the Counterweight Citadel play a game involving a ball of hardened sap, its also used as a throwing weapon.

The Counterweight citadel is kept afloat by a steam driven counterweight powered by Kobold Druids armed with heat metal spells.

Sorry for necroposting, but latex actually OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED.
