A quick query to those knowledgeable masters here on the board.
If a mid level ranger had craft 6 (+ 3 for the skill focus feat for half elves for a total of 9) what craft would be most useful to have. Or in other words, what good is the craft skill for a ranger ?
It would be cheaper to buy comparative magic items correct ? I basically want to have a craft skill but don’t know what exactly ‘that’ craft should be. And yes I’m helping out with a pbp friend again.
Thanks again, you guys are the well of knowledge I sip from.

Off the top of my head I'd say bowmaking/fletching. Make your own arrows, especially if you can salvage the arrowheads from expended ammo, the fact you can make or repair your bow/composite bow looks mighty handy to me :)

I would agree...
Craft Armor or "Tannery" (covering Leather/Hide Armors and stuff like Tents or Saddles) might be a 2nd choice. I also play allowing a Craft specialty to cover both Bows and Arrows AND Spears, given Spears' simple construction and similarity to arrows.
Also, in Pathfinder, there is a Feat you can take (Master Craftsman?) that allows you to create Magic Items if your Craft Skill in that area is high enough, which gives more reason to actually invest ranks in the Craft skills. It also makes it so a "legendary craftsman of weapons" NPC could be someone worthwhile to seek out for their craft (at high levels).

Depends on the ranger.
Craft(Bowmaking/Fletching) is good for an archer.
Craft(Leatherwork) is good if you're going for the Hunter archetype, since it is necessary for skinning (and lets you make your own leather armor)
Craft(Trapmaking) helps you set up snares and things like that, and plays into the 'woodsman' archetype.

Ah, yes, excellent point. Cannot make an elf-ear tiara with the pointy bits drooping to the ground, can we... :)

Exactly!
