Not to be a killjoy, we really need to take this opportunity seriously. Paizo is agreeing to let us, their fans, come up with some events, games, panels, contests, etc. to run at the Con.
This is our chance to show Paizo how much we appreciate what they are doing for us, not only in terms of the Con, but also for the game they are making.
Lilith and I welcome all serious and viable ideas.
Workshop on painting mini's. Oh! On setting up interesting battle matts.

So Sebastian proposed early on that someone should attempt an AP Marathon....that is, run and play an entire AP during the con.
Whoa.
After talking this out a bit (because I DO believe it is a neat idea), I would propose a STREAMLINED AP event. The entire AP would be likely need to be condensed into the key encounters, with characters auto-leveling at designated points. The goal is to run two sessions, Friday night and Saturday night, running 6 hrs each (so from 8pm to 2am, for example).
Therefore, I am calling for volunteers that would be interested in taking this on and running it. If several people are interested, then there is no reason we can't have more than one Streamlined AP going on.

Do you already have a streamlined AP in mind? If there are players available on Thursday night could we run Thurs & Fri?
Depending on the schedule of events on Sat and Sun morning, I would be willing to take this on.

That's similar to module specials run by the RPGA. They're usually eight hours long and broken up into two four-hour slots. You'll definitely either need committed GMs or lots of volunteers.

It is totally the volunteering GM's choice on what AP they'd prefer to streamline. Lots of people have suggested Second Darkness...
As for the feasibility of Thursday night....PaizoCon doesn't start until Friday, so making it 'part of PaizoCon' lends to the argument that it would need to be Friday and Saturday. If more time is necessary, one could always opt for Sunday morning ;-) (Evil!!)

To save the work of levelling, time spent on feat and spell selection choices, etc, you could just use preprinted character sheets for the iconics, and switch in the ones for the next level at the stage in the adventure where they would advance. (I think this may have been suggested before on a previous thread considering marathon sessions).
Edit:
I think they all have detailed biographies somewhere on the Paizo blog, don't they, for those players who like to have a feel for a character's background?

I think that's a great idea. I'll see what I can find.
Another idea to consider is giant dungeon adventure using Monte Cook's new Dungeon a Day. I've been enjoying everything that he's done so far, and think it would be a great option. Either way I'd be stoked to run a late night game if there is enough interested players.

I would love to DM one of the AP's...only if I actually had the source materials though. :(
I'd actually like to try something a little crazy with my DMing skillz ;), I would like to convert an old second edition module into Pathfinder and run it for the event. I'm open to suggestion on the adventure at this time as well as volunteering for running any of the games that will be available.

2e module eh? Hmmm...unfortunately, most of the ones I'm familiar with are Ravenloft/Planescape ones. "A Paladin in Hell" could be interesting. *digs up links* "Touch of Death" reworked to be set in Osirion could be fun. "Tomb of Horrors" - also fun potential. Maybe Geb, or Nex, or in lands once conquered by the Whispering Tyrant?
Oh, and I'm pretty sure one of the prizes at the convention might help out your lack of source materials out. :)

Hmmm. Pathfinder: OldSkool.
Done. I'm adding THAT to the list.
Alternatively, I've had quite a few people ask if they could run Pathfinder converted to 4E. Also good, and on the list. I'm just making sure we keep all these edition groups in different areas!
One note here....along with these great ideas for games and conversions, we do need volunteer GMs to DO said conversions, and to RUN said converted games during sessions.

Sign me up.
I love working on conversions and love GM'ing them. Maybe we could put up a poll of some classic modules and see which ones those attending the Con want to play?
Maybe Dead Gods, Nightmare Keep, Ruins of Undermountain etc etc

Given comments by Jason Bulmahn in chats, and James Jacob's known Lovecraft susceptibility, if you're having boardgames someone ought to take along The Arkham Horror (and maybe the Kingsport or Curse of the Darkk Pharaoh expansion) and see if they can put the smack down on Cthulhu or Yog-Sothoth.
Edit:
Or Atlach-Nacha (from the Kingsport expansion) if they want a real challenge... :)

Hmm. Well maybe if there's interest, but I haven't liked to mention it on the UK thread since you seemed to want to put the emphasis on PFS scenarios.

The official, organised by me stuff will be PFS scenarios but I'm sure there will be some interest and some opportunity for them.

So, fray asked about a breakfast on Friday morning before the Con starts. Hmmmmmmm.
Last year, we had a "meet and eat" at Todai! the night before PaizoCon. It was a good time. A great way to meet each other over sushi and drinks.
We could try this again this year. Dinner at a local restaurant on Thursday night for all those coming in would be one possibility.
Breakfast on Friday morning would be another.
Any interest in this?

Both sound fantabulous - Pike Place Market sounds like a foodie mecca, and I'd love to see it, but whatever is financially feasible sounds more like it. :)

Quick search of local eateries near the hotel:
Oh, I'm all down with going to Pikes Place...but given that many attendees won't have cars, it'd be a trip by bus downtown, and if they want to make the opening of PaizoCon, it'd be an awfully short morning. No, Pikes Place is a MAJOR tourist attraction. One must take the time to enjoy it. I usually hit the market by 9 AM, and stay until 1 PM. I usually wander down to the waterfront, too, while I'm there.
If it's just a Meet and Eat, then I'd propose something less logistically complex.
Timitius Wayfinder, PaizoCon Founder |
Yes, there's a Denny's next door....and a Burger King up the street. And a Whole Payche- Foods across the street. And the hotel's restaurant too.
I didn't include those because they are pretty obvious and/or well-known. The links I provided were for places that were more unique and nearby. That BBQ place will be on MY list of lunch destinations, for sure. Likewise, I LOVE the Crab Pot....I get to smash my seafood! WIN!
Denny's would be a good place for the Friday breakfast. I live in Redmond, so I am very fond of the Family Pancake House myself, if you are talking about having a great breakfast.

If I was to pick one generic 2e module for con play, it'd be The Gates of Firestorm Peak.

I am in the process of figuring out the movie room thing. First item: Is there an available room where movies can be watched late evenings/early AM?
Next: Where is the AV equipment coming from?? Who will watch the AV equipment and the room?
Then: What movies?
Finally: What times are we talking about? Certainly, Saturday night is out, what with the banquet and all.
Much thought is needed on this......
