Don't worry. We're kind of in a holding pattern for a minute, anyway, while we take a good gander at the new rules and make the necessary character changes. I'm about halfway through making a quick reference sheet for the rule changes (just for the changes to the classes), and I hope to get it up on here in a day or two (I've got about half of it up already at St. Louis and Southwest Illinois Dungeons & Dragons Meetup Group, if anybody who hasn't seen the new rulebook wants to get a head start on the new rules before I get them all posted here.

Of course, I haven't checked the other threads in the main discussion forums, so if you know of a quick-reference that somebody has already posted, please link to it here and make it easier for everybody!

Have fun on vacation, Hans. I'll DMPC him for now until you get back, probably just have him hang back and direct the wolf. In the meantime, I think we're waiting for a few people to post their actions for this round.

We're waiting on Tate, Amie and Coraline, I think. Tate and Coraline have posted out of character, but haven't posted actions yet. If they haven't put something up by tomorrow, I'll DMPC them for this round to move things along.

By the way, for anyone who hasn't upgraded their character yet, there is a new stat you need to add for yourself. It's Combat Maneuver Defense (CMD), which is 10 + BAB + STR modifier + DEX modifier + SIZE modifier. This is what opponents must roll on a CMB check anytime they perform a combat maneuver against you.

Done. Actually the only thing I needed to change. Fighte'r pretty much the same up to 5.

This round:

Coraline: moves past the hobs with successful acrobatics check and reaches the second floor (description to come).

Amie: delayed action

Yurgan: attempts a shock attack on the hob in H9, but misses. The spell is not lost.

Tate: moves to K9 and fires at the hob in H9, finding his target (crit not confirmed) for 5 damage.

Neevan: moves acrobatically through the crowded and bloody cloakroom and mounts the stairs, lashing out behind her at the hobgoblin at the foot of the stairs, but misses (a 13 won't hit).

Miho and Benedetto both go before the bad guys and Hans and Johnny, so what are they doing?

Updated map grid, as of Neevan's initiative.

Male Human Ardent 5 / Flayerspawn 1

At Neevan's request, Benedetto turns to the spirit next to him. "Well, ma'am, let's see what all kind of mischief we can be gettin' ourselves into." He offers her his arm as he begins to move.

He moves to I10, which provokes an attack of opportunity from the hobgoblin in H9. If the hobgoblin elects to take the AoO, there are options Benedetto could take to avoid damage (such as displacement) but he'll choose to just take the damage.

Then he will attack the hobgoblin in H9 with his scythe. He hits AC 26 for 9 points of damage.

F Human Psychic warrior 1

In a massive sweeping motion Miho flicks the blood from her blade, hoisting the enormous sword onto her shoulder. She menacingly stride towards the staircase, observing the battlefield as she goes.

Sorry, spent a few days in the hospital.

Okay, there are only two hobgoblins left in the foyer, and they're badly wounded. I won't delay the game further by making you guys roll to mop them up.

Following Coraline up the stairs, you are assailed by the smell of rotting and moldy carpet, blood and excrement. There are a few bedrooms on the second floor, the doors ripped off their hinges and windows knocked out so that the interior is left open to the elements.

The walls have been knocked out of the right half of the upstairs. Beneath one shattered window is a corpse nailed to cross beams and encircled by a ghostly green flame. Near the far back corner, shackled by silver chains is a girl with long, matted reddish-gold hair, and avian wings of a similar hue. She is only lightly dressed in a slave's smock that is so torn and rent that it displays more than it covers. She appears to be in a daze, with a bejeweled silver headband shoved rudely upon her brow hard enough to draw blood. A strange silver collar with cruel barbs pointed inward toward her throat is snugly fastened about her neck.

If there are hobgoblins or the reputed bugbear still remaining upstairs, they are not immediately apparent.

F Human Psychic warrior 1

Upon seeing the girl, Miho's eyes flash with rage. In three quick steps she angrily strides across the room, her massive sword rising as she moves and amidst a bellow of rage, hammering down on the chain that holds the waif captive.

Overhand chop Sunder (adamantine weapon) Sunder (1d20+12=20, 2d6+8=14)

Male Human Ardent 5 / Flayerspawn 1

Benedetto turns to the ghost of Rochelle. "Ah see what you mean, ma'am. What were they doin' up here?"

Does anybody have any Knowledge skills for all this? After people weigh in, Benedetto reaches for a sealed tube at his belt, that looks something like a scroll case. He unfastens the lid and draws forth a long, black crystal, rough-hewn, and decorated all around with brass and silver wire filigree. It's his djore of Sensitivity to Psychic Impressions.

Your blow nearly shatters the chain, but not quite. It does jar the girl to wakefulness, though, and she turns bloodshot golden eyes to you, widening in surprise. Quickly, she looks off to the side and tries to mouth a warning, but not quickly enough as you are struck from behind by an invisible force for 16 points of damage from a magic missile that seems to originate from one of the ruined rooms behind you.

With the chain nearly broken, the winged girl gets a second wind and begins thrashing against her restraints, trying to tear it the rest of the way loose. She also begins tossing her head roughly from side to side, as if trying to dislodge the headband on her brow, but she stops quickly as the wicked barded collar bites into her neck with a sickening sizzling sound as wisps of foul-smelling smoke curl up from the shallow wounds. The silver obviously doesn't react well against her skin.

Because there are multiple events that happened at different times, unrelated to each other in this room, I'll have to ask you exactly what you are focusing on with the dorje (for instance, the corner where the body is crucified, or the corner where the winged girl is chained up).

Male Human Ardent 5 / Flayerspawn 1

Where the body was crucified. If Benedetto sees the attack on Miho, and if he can spare a free action, he'll call downstairs for assistance.

Female Half Elf Cleric/6

Amie follows closely behind. She raises her arm to her nose as the rotten smells assault her nose. She turns slowly taking in the room. She moves quickly over to Miho as the woman gets hit by the spell, stopping just short so not to be caught by the arch of the blade.
“Every one be on your guard!” she calls out, “Miho and I will help this one. Find the Mage!”

She moves over around next to the creature as Miho brings her blade down again. She looks at the girl and speaks to her in elven.

“Lady Yalla? Lady Amaranth sent us to help you. Please be calm and we shall free you.”

Focusing on the headband and the collar Amie says a small prayer. “Lord Erastil, through your eye reveal to me the truth.”

Benedetto wrote:

In the psychic residue of the event, you can see two small groups of hobgoblins enter the scene. Two of them are holding a struggling human woman with red hair who looks nearly identical to the ghost you met downstairs, forcing her to watch as the other two drag a man's corpse into the room and nail him to crossed timbers that form an "X" (so he's crucified kind of tilted sideways). The woman is screaming and crying until one of the hobgoblins hits her hard across her face. The a large bugbear dressed in the furs of a dire bear walks into the scene, pauses in front of the woman and begins speaking words you cannot understand. Green flames erupt around the corpse but do not seem to burn the flesh. At the same time, the woman seizes up as if she is being strangled by some unseen force before falling limp.

You'll need to roll Perception to see if you notice the attack on Miho, which is on the other side of the room from where you're concentrating.

Overhand Chop, Adamantine Sunder attempt (1d20+14=28, 2d6+8=13)

The winged girl looks at you with a mixture of appreciation of the beauty of your speech, and confusion. She does not appear to understand what you're saying.

With her hand free (your second sunder attempt worked), she rips off the headband, and the cloudiness fades from her eyes, leaving them clear and alert. With a moment of concentration, a blade of pure energy suddenly erupts from her free hand and swiftly arcs into the chain binding her other arm, moving carefully to her feet, trying not to jostle the silver barbed collar that continues to wound her throat.

At her full height, she is about 3'6" tall. Her features are nearly human, with a slight cant to her ears, but there is an unearthly beauty and radiance about her. Clearly she isn't human, and the wings nix any notion of gnome heritage. Though her wings give the impression of a quasi-celestial being, the small stature and canted ears bespeak a heritage more fey than divine.

Sorry I've been out for a while. My computer is on the fritz.

The headband she just tore off radiates magic perverted from the school of abjuration. It appears to have been designed to stifle magical or psionic abilities. Neither the chains that bind her limbs, nor the silver collar at her throat radiate magic, so whatever unnatural effect they are having must derive from the silver, and not from magic.

Upon hearing your words, she looks from Miho to you, and speaks in extremely broken elven, "Am-rant es friend. Help Yalla she. Speak you goblin or tongue or tree people?"

That will be good enough to hit the right square. Anyone looking that way (Perception DC15, if you didn't state you were looking that direction) will be able to see the spongy, fiery ball bounce off of something unseen (roll for damage, Hans). You can attack that square without penalty (since you know which square he is in, I'll give y'all a 25% miss chance for invisibility, rather than the normal 50%, for this round only).

Be careful of him, he is dangerous, and his invisibility does not end when he attacks. If you have spells that render the invisible visible, use those."

For those of you who do not understand Sylvan, you see Amie and the small winged girl exchange a few words, then the winged girl hunches down to all fours, and her body begins going through contortions. In moments, a tiny winged fox stands where the girl stood. Its head smaller than the silver collar, it carefully pulls its head out of the device and springs into the air toward the space where your invisible attacker was revealed.
