Shrugs

Your choice. They were headed into the mountains, I was getting them out so you could flatten the carnival, not realizing that they were the target. Feel free to run them down as they make their way into the mountains.

Well, Daelemos has had his fun. With classical draconic malice he left the flippered one standing with a particularly nasty curse, and toasted/bothered almost everyone else.
I'm not sure whether or not the Giggler could break the curse - I doubt that he's the sort who would if he could, anyway.
Upto you what the rest of them do now.

Meh, they were a sideshow (LOL ..no pun intended) at best anyway. Maybe I can think up something for the flippered dude. I kinda liked his imagery.

Okay. Off for the night. At least now, if/when word reaches the grove of Daelemos' little outing, they will have confirmation of what they're dealing with.

Back a couple of hours or so after this post, depending on how long someone else needs the computer for and if I get caught up solitaire playtesting a combination of Arkham Horror expansions.
Will check for the Giggler first.

Charles: Quick tete a tete on Lucinda and the Giggler meeting:

The Giggler dervies a good portion of his power from an Aspect of Elemental Evil he picked up in the old Temple of Elemental Evil a while back. The Aspect was attuned to water. Essentially his body is a liquid he can solidify.

Is this going to clash with Lucinda? They both seem to be both chaotic in the extreme and water-aligned. Anything I should know before posting further?

Lucinda unwittingly works for the biggest and nastiest of the Eldest Elemental Evils, who I figure may have made or inspired the regular Elemental Evils (and other things of the ilk).
Their portfolios in descending order are:
1) Dark Dreams & Nightmares
2) Water
3) Air
4) Earth
5) Life
6) Fire
7) Undeath

Some crossovers of interests do exist - irrespective of who/what they serve it is not unusual for some agents/operatives to carry a mark of favour of 3), who also specialises in lies & misdirection.

In theory, with her patron as top of the list, Lucinda (especially when she gets confused/scared, which count as super-concentrated acts of worship, coming from her) has authority/power regarding everything else on the list.
Most other agents would not exhibit powers relating to patrons beyond their own, although some may boss around servants of ones 'further down the list' or treat them as their flunkes/servants.
Lucinda is (fortunately for everyone else) a one-off.
with regards to her background, I think she may have worked her way up, serving several. As a lisilar, she would have been a prime candidate to be one of a number of speciality priests known as 'Hounds' of 5), and I think she may have served a spell working for 2) as well.

Edit:
She's not likely to go into an encounter with the Giggler with the aim of hurting him, although she may completely ignore Kytania.
The Giggler may be aware that she's a servant of something chaotic and evil aligned, if she makes any shows of power, and that its something best 'unnamed' except by its worshippers/servants.

OK, that's cool. I figure they'll just 'pass in the night' so to speak. Just wanted to make sure there were no clashes in the offing ...

Brief first impression for the Giggler/Kytania post made.

As Lucinda's posts in the Pearl of the South hopefully made clear, she often has a different perception of what is going on around her, although can (in an obtuse manner) get around to dealing with questions asked even which se apparently hasn't heard...

Okay, turning off now.
Goodnight all.

Shadow Lodge

Logging of for the night, I have to watch my neices in the morning.

Shadow Lodge

Good morning all. Happy Memorial Day!

And a happy one to you DB3. I will be popping in and out. Got a few people to go and visit today to make sure they're well remembered. Will post in and out as time allows...

"Shadow shall meet, the light will greet, and darkness shall fight its brother. The lines will fade, a new shape will be laid, and daughter shall meet mother."
It grins again.

Brother vs brother? Let's count the pairs of brothers.

1) Oroth and Aidan
2) Lerithan and Merithan
3) Any two Jacks.

Now, when it comes to darkness fighting its brother, the shadows that surrounded Oroth may attach to someone else, but only if they are depressed and subconsciously wanted the power to change it.

Of course, this could also mean Shadow Pelt is going to meet Oroth again.

I think the new shape being laid refers to Lucinda, and the 'daughter shall meet mother' refers to the only mother daughter pair that hasn't really meet each other, LJ and Arielle.

I could be reading to much into this though, and would like other takes on this. KC could just explain, but where is the fun it that?

Hey Charles, I'm feeling a little at a loss right now as to how to deal with Daelemos. I could use some less obscure hints. Maybe I'm just being dense, but I have no idea what would motivate the dragon enough to use to appeal to his pride. And every time I ask someone who would know all I get is 'I don't want to talk about that.' With the Giggler loose I'm feeling a bit more urgency to get this wrapped up. It's down to only two people to deal with, and I just want to get things moving again.

I'm surprised Jay Frogskin's draft letter didn't see any discussion - I don't know if it was an invisible post when Kobold Cleaver made it and everyone else missed it.
The first couple of paragraphs were along the lines of thinking of something which might appeal; it went a bit off the rails once it started making veiled threats and insults, and going on about 'inconvenience'. A dragon doesn't like to be told what is and isn't going to inconvenience it...

I've been doing my best to remotely convey 1) how dangerous the dragon is if challenged in a fight, and 2) what it's character is, so the others have some sort of basis to go on for working up a credible RP solution.

We've gotten the point of number one. We get it. Too dangerous, don't challenge to a fight. But I'm telling you that you haven't given enough information about Daelemos's character for us to have any real idea. Devlyn and Frogskin both started working on it, but the problem is that we don't have enough to go on right now to come up with a credible RP solution. That's what I'm telling you. Frogskin's letter wasn't ignored or dismissed. Other than the bit about trying to threaten the dragon. I think it's the beginnings of a good idea. But that's all we've got. The beginnings. We don't know enough about Daelemos to know which ideas would appeal and which would tick him off and it's too important to risk angering him. SO if we could find out a little less remotely please? :)

I was referring to this Letter:

Spoiler:
Dragon Lord Daelemos,
We congratulate and thank you for deigning to collect the pieces of the goddess of song. We understand that it is quite an honor for Daelemos himself to take interest. The pieces which you have so easily collected had eluded us, and believe me, many heads connected with walls when we saw how simple a matter it was for you.
These pieces, as you know, are vital in the return of Lynora. We would deeply appreciate it if you would aid in her return, by sending us these pieces. We would be willing to reward you, of course, but perhaps a greater reward would be the prestige: You will have brought a god cast down by the forces of chaos and madness into power, which could be vital in the fate of the Board. You will have, in short, directly altered the Board. I doubt many other dragons can say the same, certainly not your 'rivals'--if they can be called that. We have researched these 'rivals', and while they are certainly far from weak, they are hardly equal to a more powerful lord such as yourself.
The pieces are almost useless in their present state, and any power you may derive form them will be easy to destroy. The favors of a goddess are not. Not to mention, minions of chaos will constantly be breaking down your door to destroy the stars, and then you will have gained nothing but a broken-down door. Consider this offer, please. Contact me in any way you deem fitting.
--Jay Frogskin, Champion of the Boards

I think I see what happened to any discussion though; Frogskin said he was handing it to Devlyn, just before the Dalesman went offline for the weekend.

No one is really qualified, no matter what they think. Encourage him/her to seek help at least. The more people who try to help, the more likely succes will be.

Response:

Persons with knowledge of Daelemos:
  • 0) Nirellia Dimonia.
However she’s unlikely to leave the Realms of Dream at present, because she doesn’t want to make out that she can come and go so easily.
  • 1) The Daughters of the Morning.
Some of them have been around for a very long time, and Shovastika is at the hub of a very well informed spy network. However they don’t generally like to ‘flaunt themselves’ (anything for a quiet life) and spilling private information regarding Daelemos is going to get the dragon to look for whoever did it, which may mean Annoying Hard Work. What is the point of being an aristocratic lady if you cannot have a Life of Ease (except for engaging in occasional energetic diversions of one’s own choosing)?
  • 2) Eiboria.
Nirellia has recalled her to the Realms of Dream for now. Nirellia’s paranoid (for her own reasons) that in the interests of expedience Arielle/Jack Hammer want to do nasty things to Eiboria, and she’s unwilling to take the risk of leaving her potentially exposed to them. Nirellia believes that any such tampering might well unleash the ‘Demon Dragonfire’ that Lucifer planned so long ago, but she’s more interested in seeing that her own needs are satisfied than in advancing the causes of Chaos and Evil as a whole.
  • 3) Daelemos’ servants and agents.
Unfortunately, these guys are insane fanatics, and would literally rather die than talk. I think it’s a sort of ‘battered gnome syndrome’ where they love their master even though he abuses them. They in any case are dubious sources of information at best, as they are happy to rabbit on about his power and magnificence, and the great benevolence of their master, and prone to exaggerate (if that were possible) about him, whilst seldom stopping to think about what motivate or drives the dragon.
They just get on with whatever they’re told to do. ‘We just follow our orders’ would be their line.
Depending on whether or not he thought that the gnome in question had failed him in any way, Daelemos might take exception to his ‘possessions’ being messed with by anyone else.
  • 4) Other dragons?
Most aren’t going to know much more than the same stories that highly qualified sages could report. Aritha the Tarnished/Aspect of Lamashtu did have a brief ‘encounter’ with him, and is currently under house arrest as a long-term guest of Nirellia Dimonia.
  • 5) Legend Lore?
This is just going to give information along the lines of ‘in the four hundredth century, Daelemos did sorely torment the residents of the kingdom of Muirgunheim, seizing the King’s only daughter, and destroying fully half their armies for the insult which he felt that they had given him by not heeding his advice’.

Now it’s possible that I might have a reason for bringing Eiboria out anyway, but there are far too many people around in the grove for her to put an appearance in there. Are there any other places which Lynora-Jill is tied to/aware of, which aren’t so crowded?

Addendum:
The only other thought I have is bringing Sorsha into play somehow, although she's not exactly briefed on Daelemos, and I'm not clear how any potential use she might have could come into play.

Okay, that was a long list, and I really hope that you can see from that list why I am starting to feel frustrated. You're basically saying, here's all the people who know and none of them are going to talk to you. Arrrgh.

*takes a deep breath*

Sorry. Anyways, there's not likely to be less of a crowd in the Grove at any point at this stage in the endgame, let alone the planning phase. I'm not understanding why Eiboria couldn't use a illusory projection like she did before. Then she's not in any physical danger, and she can always request a private conversation, which LJ would certainly grant.

That was from the Bazaar, which seems to be part of the same Prime Material plane, and doesn't have heavy duty barriers at present.

Does Lynora-Jill ever dream in her current form?

If not, I shall work on a plan B involving Sorsha.

Only an hour or so of posting time left here... Early night required.

I don't know. She doesn't really need to sleep. You know what, this is getting too complicated. Surely there has to be some small place where the Green and the realms of dream intersect. Eiboria can reach her there.

And I really have to go now.
Goodnight.

No worries. It's not like we have a schedule to keep or something. :) But thanks for the heads-up/reminder.

Look I found the Teen Champions!

Arielle(silver hair), Lk(greenish hair), Aidan(red hair), Unknown(yellow hair).

Don't know who the last one could be.

This is a joke, though they could become their own little strike force.

Hadn't thought of that. The wings match the coloration of Keehaar's bird alias too.

Tired, stressed, not sleeping well, but have made a post on the grove thread from Sorsha.

Okay, off to try for some belated sleep (again).

Alright, now that I've taken a breath and deleted my first response.... WTF?! Charles, you're godmodding. A lot. In spite of frequent requests on my part to stop. I've come up with as many creative solutions as I can, but apparently Daelemos is so all-fricking powerful that a deity working through the fricking World Ash can't steal back something from his lair that belongs to her in the first place. Apparently, you have some perfect solution in place for how you think this is supposed to work out. Do tell. Spell it out in detail. Because that's the only way it's going to happen. And if it doesn't happen soon I am invoking the much detested time travel clause. I am beyond frustrated. I'm willing to play out a storyline if I can see that it is going somewhere. This one isn't and hasn't been for awhile. And I want my character back.

If your house starts collapsing, would you or would you not grab your most valuable things and get out?

Anyway, he will shortly be turning up at the Grove, as you have his attention, and he might not even sneeze all over it if Sorsha is still there.
Whilst she is present 'kill everything in sight and raze the place' is not an option in case she is a casualty. (Bad form to kill a dragon from your own bloodline and all that by accident, or at least if you're Daelemos it is.)
Therefore, so long as everyone stays bunched up nice and close to avoid casual breath weapon attacks, you get to talk.

Charles, are you trying to say Daelemos is the Midgard Serpent? Cause with 'the fall of an entire pantheon of gods' the Midgard Sperpent died, before the fall actually, killed by someone with a really big hammer... >:)

(Yes, I know it was Thor.)

First of all, his house was not collapsing. And that still doesn't help, because you've decided that he's all-powerful and there's nothing we can do to convince him to give back the stars. I've asked over and over and over for some clue as to how to approach him or convince him and all you do is re-review the info I've already stated is insufficient. I'm upset. I've been upset about this a few times already. It's getting to be a weekly event. Tell me what you expect me to do already. You've got a script, but you're not sharing it. And I can't read your mind. It isn't fun when one person has a character that nobody else can do anything about no matter what. I seem to recall you having a similar frustrated reaction to something another player did earlier in the game. Was it a lot of fun on that side of it? Can you understand why I might be getting a little upset?

I appear to have been going by the 2nd edition planescape version of mythology, where the Midgaard Serpent is supposed to kill the world ash at some point and bring about the end of the norse pantheon; apparently that differs somewhat from the regular mythology.
Daelemos is not the Midgaard serpent, but I assume that in a setting of mythology where the world ash exists, that the Midgaard serpent is out there too and that reasonably powerful dragons or dragonlike creatures occasionally swap stories or treasures with one another, or even more occasionally do favours.
I was going to introduce a lich major-domo for Daelemos, who had spells with several other dragons on communications 'speed-dial', but never had the chance to post that.

I don't have a script. I'm assuming that in the manner of roleplayers everywhere, you will brilliantly improvise in conversation with something which seems reasonable. I have been waiting for you to go and have a conversation (taking some precautions) for weeks.

Furthermore, I thought you were finally getting there with Jay Frogskin's initiative just before the weekend.
I've been wanting to wrap this up as well.

I could bring in help...
I been wanting a reason to bring in Db and Dbj. Sky is just as tired as Blodwen, so he might not be any help. Lk is bound to jump in any fight to protect Arielle, which will most likely allow me to fix his relationship with Kiba(who is still close by, LJ, JH, and Devlyn can easily detect him in their own ways). The Bard is busy helping Mirathan, and Ellara might no get there in time(she also has little reason to, except she allied herself to LJ). Aidan, Oroth, Rio, and Cyberdragonborn are occupied at the Sanctum, so they may not be able to get there soon.

Just to point out the obvious, we've lost a few RPG posters due to overly complex, overly one-sided interactions.

A conversation with who about what? I've been trying to have conversations with everyone that has come across my radar screen. I have asked you over and over and over for some kind of hint or something. Nothing works. I've asked for more information so we can brainstorm something from that. Nada. I've said repeatedly that I don't know what you're looking for here. Every time I start to posit a solution there's some brilliant reason why it can't possibly work. Nothing seems reasonable to you. If you were DMing a game and the players hit a wall, how many times would you have them sit there blankly and ask you for help before you gave them a hint? How long would you make them sit there first? How much would you want to play in a game like that?
