The existing DMG info on building a town or city in your game isn't in Beta. I'm not sure if this was cut for space in Beta but is planned for the final release, or if it was purposefully chosen to be removed, but I think that settlement stat block is useful and should be kept in the game. This would also tie in with additional data on magic item availability that has been hinted would be part of the game.

Those rules are not part of the SRD and not open content. Paizo (Mr. Bulmahn) would need to create new rules for handling towns and such. It was the same deal with the EXP awards.
I do agree that rules/guidelines for handling cities would be a big help to have and a good place to address the 'open market' for magic items.

Throwing in two coppers...it would be nice to see some core rules for "the basic city," but I'd love to see a supplement that could do something akin to:
I want to run my game in a Roman-style city. The supplement provides some details on:
- Types of NPCs you'd find/encounter in a Roman-style city
- Information on Roman-style governance and laws
- Guidelines for technology in the era
- Common and less common wealth levels per city, size of cities and what would be available
- Ideas/suggestions for "painting" the world for the PCs, setting the mood
- Setting-appropriate treasure tables
- Ideas for retheming common magic items to suit the era, or replacements for items that just wouldn't be there
- Mythological creatures from that era/style
I want to run my game in a...you get the idea. While the core of this could fit in just a few pages in some guide (tech levels, rough treasure suggestions), it could also be more fleshed out, with tables for random generation for goods, wealth, NPCs, and so on. Something to help with maps.
Now, I'm sure someone makes something similar--if so, hey, point me there. While I'd love to see a Pathfinder take on it (and who wouldn't?) it might be something best handled by a 3rd party, also.

Last notions:
- "Scrub sheets" for players. Easily-usable sets of notes that outline some of the differences you'd encounter in the era.
- Chargen suggestions for the DM to implement. More points? Fewer points? Swap out some racial abilities that'd be more/less useful?
- Era-specific feats. Maybe some more "formation-style" feats for a Roman legionaire.
Something like this could get fairly fat, indeed.

SquirrelyOgre, have you seen Eternal Rome? This and the other Mythic Vistas line from Green Ronin sounds like something you might be interested in.

I've not, but with your recommendation, I'll definitely check it out. I'll hunt about and see if they have a few other eras. Rome, Greece are the classics. Let's go back to Babylon, shall we? :)
