The (un)usual suspects (Spoilers)

Curse of the Crimson Throne

So I played my 4th session of this fantastic adventure path today, and we had gotten to the shingle chase scenario. For some reason the party CN sorcerer felt really bad about capturing Trinia, and after a small talk he agreed to change his alignment to CG.

When they were finished the players had all kind of wild ideas on who had really killed the King and who the real bad guys were. The party for some reason started to suspect that Field Marshal Croft was somehow responsible or at least in on whatever imagined plot the players speculated on.

I fear this might ruin the relationship with Croft in the later installments of the adventure path, but hope the players will change their mind about Croft when they get some more insight in what's really going on.

ROFLMAO!! This is one of those stories we all love to tell, but hate to be in, as GM trying to figure out how the heck the players got to wherever their fevered brains and paranoia have led them :)

I think this will be fine... especially after Croft sends them to the hanging.... I can see them know changing their minds

Spoiler:
"maybe she didn't kill the king, and she's really blackjack..."

At this stage my players figured that Trinia was pregnant with Eodred II's kid, and the reason that the queen wanted her was to protect her spot on the throne.

Are spoiler tags preferred here? I thought this would be a GM-only forum, so using spoilers is a bit redundant, right?

Yes, I was going to make a similar suggestion about how Kroft's reaction to the knowledge that Trinia has been blamed for it should change their minds.

My party is following Kroft around like little puppies, thinking that she's got all this coinage that they can "liberate" from her. After all, she pays pretty well early on.

My group just left the Dead Warrens in a downpour of rain and the execution is only a couple hours away. Two party members headed straight for the Citadel (!) and another headed for the castle's courtyard to scope out the area. The rest are busy carting books back to their stronghold (they're using Zellara's old building for that).

Btw, are there detailed floorplans for the castle somewhere? I need to go through the rest of the books in more detail, but a pointer would be helpful. Thanks.

Spoilers are often still used because some groups have their players poking around for info, and sometimes a thread outside this forum will link you here. So some play it safe :)

And the maps are in the final chapter, since the players actually get to go in and mess around then :)

If you do let the PCs visit the castle, right at the start, you may want to just use it for the map, and amend some of the room contents...

My players were suspicious of here as well but grew out of it.

There is no map for the courtyard that know of.

@GamerGirrl: okay, spoilers it is in the future. :)

Thanks. I wish I'd had the courtyard map for Chapter 1 where the PCs are supposed to return the brooch to the queen. :( I just made up a large courtyard and only allowed them to see a small part of it.

I'm certainly glad to have it for the end of Chapter 1. Although I plan to redo the courtyard quite a bit. And I decided that the courtyard was too small, so I've made the scale of the map be 1"=10' instead of 1"=5'. I'll see what kind of problems that creates as I redo the map.

But to those who want to know, there is an overview of the castle on pg 20 of Chapter 6 of the AP. It only covers the courtyard level (called Ground Level) and a single dungeon level below. That leaves the 1st floor, 2nd floor, 3rd floor, and attic levels unmapped. You may want to flesh those out in more detail before you players get there.

I do like the elevation view, though. It gives a great idea of the overall appearance f the castle.

Dark Archive

Page 26 has the first, second, third, and fourth floors, as well as the towers above on it.

The only part unmapped is the lower dungeon levels.

Aha! Excellent! I was going through the PDF and somehow just assumed that the maps would all be near each other. Obviously shameful on my part... :)

Thanks again.
