Pathfinder Chronicles: Seekers of Secrets vs.Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play

Lost Omens Products

Will these 2 products generally agree with each other, at least in standards set. I mean will the fully fleshed out Seeker of Secrets also include the 5 different factions within the Society? Will there be more?

I want to start a campaign with the premise that the PC's belong to a faction in the society and specific branch. So, I'm just wondering if I can use the Guide for "Organized play" as a skeleton of what Seeker of Secrets will be like.

Or should I wait for the Seeker of Secrets to come out because it will be radically different Society?

thanks

I would guess that it will most likly mention that there is a shadow war occuring between these 5 countries, and that one facet of this war includes using thier members in the PFS to complete side missions while official PFS business. Otherwise I would think that they are goign to let that develop more in the organized play.

I would imagine that the PFS book is more history of the society, and what they are interested in obtaining/funding, ect. We know there will be crunch, since it is labeled as being fully compatable with PFS organized play.

As one of the authors of SoS, I'd say that while you will undoubtedly see evidence of the factions at work, they're supposed to be SECRET factions. :) I think of the PFS and the factions the same way I think of all player characters: though almost every PC in D&D is destined for greatness, and there are a LOT of us running PCs in Golarion, the majority of the characters in Golarion are still just regular folks doing regular things. Same with the PFS - though we're running things in the org play as if everyone were in the same world, the Pathfinder Society doesn't *actually* consist solely of secret agents, in-game... so most of the organization's history and operation won't hinge directly on faction-related things. (And even if they did, you might not know - after all, though James Bond seems to have no problem blowing his cover at every opportunity, the best secret agents are the ones whose names are never revealed, and whose actions you never detect...)

So in short, feel free to start with all the PFS information you have, knowing that SoS will be along shortly to flesh everything out without (hopefully) breaking any of your backstory. I hope that answers some questions!

What James said plus this:

The factions are really only a sub plot of the Society in Absalom. Once you get outside of Absalom, the shadow war ceases to have any meaning and you see far fewer Pathfinders secretly following once of the five factions.
