I don't mean in any way to view your style of DM'ing as negative but I used to think the same way about fudging rolls. It was always something that bothered me about DM'ing. Should I do it? Anyways, I had many discourses with some "old school" DM's like Gygax, Mentzer and others ( on Dragonsfoot) from that era and most of them said they did fudge. ( when it was appropriate) Like if your players concoct a devious plan and roleplay a solution to a trap or situation, you should never let the dice tell you otherwise. In this way you reward good roleplaying and encourage it. ( you should still roll dice if your game system demands it but the numbers mean nothing). ( that's what the shield is for)

The dice are not your masters, the DM isn't a computer, slavishly adhering to whatever randomness gets generated. Does this mean that PC's never die or only die when you say so? Of course not. There are many times where I don't know which way a battle should go, and I let the dice tell me what really happens ( they help me adjudicate what happens) but only when I'm unsure.

This situation with the unruly player could've been handled efficiently and without problem if you wouldn't have been so slavishly devoted to the rules. ( and of course no one but you knows what's going on behind your screen right?) So, guess what happens when the Dragon made his unlucky role against the Sorcerer in my game? He deserved it right?

Don't back off now and say he was only playing by the rules or whatever, he was being a cheesy player and becoming a problem and you let it happen. You let it escalate and then he gets pissed off , you and your other players become miffed. Yet you had the power, as the DM, to handle this problem "in game" and it would have been a great moment that all your players could've learned from.

My advice, don't let the rules of any game deter you from adding some of your personality into the game. Make the game your own, whatever the system. You are not a computer, keep your one advantage over computer games, your flexibility.

Where are you people? Where can I try and find a Pathfinder online game using Fantasy Grounds 2 or Map tool and Skype or whatever?

thanks

I live in Pembroke Pines ( South Broward) and I'm looking to join an RPG group. I can DM or play and I have many years experience.

I will play any decent RPG, (especially Pathfinder) I'm just looking to find a good group that's into roleplaying games. I have found a decent group that's into boardgames but they are not my first love...

My email is bluecat15@comcast.net drop me a line!

Hey, I live in Pembroke Pines but I'd be willing to travel if I can actually find a decent RPG group down here in South Florida. I emailed you with the e-mail you posted here so let me know.

Did you get my e-mail?

I did.

Anyone else looking for a game ?

Or is this strictly a fan-based endeavor?

thanks

Will these 2 products generally agree with each other, at least in standards set. I mean will the fully fleshed out Seeker of Secrets also include the 5 different factions within the Society? Will there be more?

I want to start a campaign with the premise that the PC's belong to a faction in the society and specific branch. So, I'm just wondering if I can use the Guide for "Organized play" as a skeleton of what Seeker of Secrets will be like.

Or should I wait for the Seeker of Secrets to come out because it will be radically different Society?

thanks

I've been out of the loop for a while in, so what program are people using these days. I remember using Open RPG, but it was a bit buggy. Anything new or old interface out there really getting the job done?

I just want something that will roll virtual die and also the ability to bring up tactical maps and the like. Texting is fine with us, although we might do audio too if it's not to much of a pain in the ***.

Also, do any of these programs have official support for the Pathfinder adventure paths?

thanks for any help...

Is there anyway to replace the rulebook which I somehow lost at work. curses!!! ( I always lose little rulebooks, it's been written in stone)

The cards look great and all but with no rulebook, I just stare at them and wonder.lol

Maybe a PDF file like most of my other subscription?

Man that's going to be one big-ass book! While you're at it, please fix the upgrading monster rules, they really were a pain in the ass.

Also, please don't go the whole "gamey" 4ed route to solve all of 3.5's problems. I like 4ed but I can't accept it as a serious "roleplaying " game when the mechanics don't reflec a coherent world anymore and only reflect the game.

It's fine for 4ed and I will have fun playing it, but it fails for me as a "roleplaying" game...

Keep the world mysterious and magical...

here's hoping PFRPG is the best RPG product money can buy.

Can't wait to get the beta

A few questios on PFRPG:
1. Do you think it will be compatible with ArcanaEvolved? I mean can it exist side by side with 3.5 like AE has?

2. Will PRPG require the use of 3.5 core books or will it be a self-contained book? In other words will I still be needing my 3.5 books?

3. Does being compatible mean I will be able to use the magic items from the Magic Item Compendium and the like?

4.Are most of you going to stay mostly 3.5 and borrow from PRPG or stay mostly PRPG and fill in the gaps with 3.5?

5. Will I have to re-learn all the spells again? AAARgh! The subtle differences between 3.0 and 3.5 were very frustrating.

I'm just trying to find a way to incorporate PRPG, 3.5, and AE? Wondering if it's going to be possible?

thanks...

Looking for DM advice mainly...

The PC's are a mix of a Varisian Rogue, Chelish Mage(Golem worker), Shoanti Druid, and an Elvish Bard...

My question is I'm unsure how much natives know about Thassilon and all the legends and everything it entails. It says in the players guide that when you ask a Varisian about the monoliths and only the "cold dread in their eyes will answer". I know the first question out of my rogues mouth will be whats giving me this cold dread look?

Should I try and keep the name of Thassilon secret or does the Bard already know this name as part of his legends, since he's native from this land? What would the DC to have heard of the name Thassilon? Does the Varisian know of Thassilon by a different and erroneous name?

It also states that both peoples (Varisian, Shoanti) "remember the tyranny of the empire..in their histories and legends? It say the Shoanti rmember them as the Azghat and the VArisians as demons...should I have the Bard recall legends of Stern Gods or Voracious demons and hide the true story of Thassilon, and give out the "Real" info a little at a time?

Does anyone know the true story of Thassilon at this time? In entry 8 for the sage in Sandpoint, it says that he's been studying ancient Thassilonian ruins for the last years...Does he know they're Thassilonian? I mean he knows the true history then? Even the Runelords names and all that? I'm guessing he can read Thassilonian then too?

Awesome adventure path by the way, the campaign setting is great and I can't wait for the next installments!

Can PC's take Thassilonian as a language?

I guess what I'm really having problems with is how evasive should I be about giving out solid information about Thassilon. Sorry for the rambling...( I hate DM'ing bards!)

Awesome adventure path by the way...hope you make many more in this great campaign setting...

oops, I didn't see the other Pathfinder thread, but since that thread had no relevant information on the Pathfinder society and was hijacked into future Affiliation rules, maybe someone can shed some light on this issue? Is this the last offical source material of the Pathfinder Society or will they make an appearance in a later volume?

So far I couldn't resist printing out the PDF and reading it even though I have the mag coming in a couple days...lol. Anyways, I read the Pathfinder's Journal entry and I am wondering what's the intention for this information.

Am I supposed to have the society contact the PC's and try to inculcate them into the Pathfinder society?

Will a later AP book deal with the Pathfinders?

Will they meet up with the Pathfinders in Magnimar and "work" for them later in the AP?

Just seemed a like a cool organization and was wondering if they're going to officially be integrated into the campaign or if I have to do that myself?

I even thought of all the PC's being Pathfinders and hearing rumors of strange happenings "unpleasentness" going on in Sandpoint and being sent to investigate...will this ruin a further Pathfinder plot already in the works?

thanks
