[Feat] Speed Reading and Photographic Memory

Skills and Feats

Nothing fancy or needed, just a spare thought of fluff for consideration...

Speed Reading: prerequisites: Intelligence 18, Linguistics 10 ranks
able to read twice a fast.
can be taken multiple times, doubling the speed each time.

Photographic Memory: prerequisites: Intelligence 12
Able to memorise a situation, document, or detailed description of a person and recall it perfectly later.
No more than one of these can be stored at a time, but can be replaced as desired.
The information can be retained only for a number of hours equal to Intelligence Modifer.
Does not impart the ability to communicate a stored memory perfectly.

Advanced Photographic Memory: prerequisites: Photographic Memory, Wisdom 12
Able to memorise one situation, document, or detailed description of a person and recall it perfectly later.
No more than a total number of memories can be stored at one time equal to Wisdom Modifier,
but each can be replaced as desired.
The information can be retained for a number of days equal to Intelligence Modifier.
Does not impart the ability to communicate these stored memories perfectly.

It could be argued that these can be too easily exploited, but I disagree when considering they cost feats.
The cost is too high compared too what must be sacrificed in order to exploit them for mega-meta-gaming.
Surely, the small exploits that could be done, shouldn't break an adventure or campaign.
Nothing more than frolics at best for a bit of fun and profit, easily gained otherwise already.

Accordingly, making them spells would definitely be a big mistake. That has exploit written all over it.
Seen them used as spells in Rolemaster as simple game breakers.
As feats, they are considerably toned down in potential munchkin mischief factor.

Personally I don't think it's wise to have Manipulate Mind, the Bard spell, in the game as it is written.
Especially at that low of a level. But this is the Feats forum, so forget I said this bit lol :D

Memorization (at least of text) is covered by the Autohypnosis skill (which is OGL, but not in the Beta).

I kinda like the feats - Int prereqs should be odd - I'd recommend 13 for speed reading (you don't really need to be an absolute genius to speed read - trust me I'm an absolute genius and can't speed read at all..), 15 for photographic memory.

I only added minimum Stat requirements to allow someone to be able use it at all lol :)

Agree with your reasoning to bump them.
Out group doesn't use other OGLs with Pathfinder.
I think the system shouldn't need to rely on them. Add them in. :)

Perfectly understandable (and I should have specified Autohypnosis is in the 3.5 SRD (from the Psionics/expanded psionics handbook)).

I guess I'm suggesting adding that in as another option to adding the feats.

If only we had retained the Concentration skill... seems like we could assign DCs, and use that skill instead of Autohypnosis (which covers a bit too much ground, IMHO) -- a use other than casting defensively. I'm with Majuba in that I'm hestiant to create feats to do things that skills already do (it already bugs me that Acrobatics has made the Mobility feat obsolete except as a stepping-stone to Spring Attack, for example).

as implied, I have no problem with use as a skill or part of one
my only concern is the potential exploit factor being nipped in the bud

maybe a feat required to use as part of a skill? dunno lol

agree that concentration was very useful for a lot more than just spellcasting,
and had potential for even more application, like this for instance
when removed, maybe Will checks should've replaced the Concentration checks though
