Ultimately, the players cannot ruin your game; they are the game.
Everyone, I wanted to appologize. This is my first PBP ever and my first time DMing in over 15 years. For the most part I have played (rarely) with a group, played an MMO, or done a computer game like Baldur's Gate or Eye of the Beholder. What I am trying to say is that I am used to faster pace and had forgotten that not everyone is able to keep up the same pace. Forgive me for my overexuberance. It is because of the fact that we are on different schedules and time zones that I would like to implement a slight alteration to how we play this PBP. What I would like to do is officially add "Turns" to the PBP. What I mean is that when I post, the turn starts and does not end untill the last person has their turn. Of course there will be exceptions, but I want to keep everyone on the same page. Here is an example...
DM - Start turn 1.
Player 1 - Turn 1 info and comments.
Player 2 - Turn 1 info and comments.
...
Player 6 - Turn 1 info and comments.
DM - Start turn 2.
ect.
Does this sound like a good idea? I welcome your comments. Also, please excuse my inexperience with these matters.

If we do that, there will be a lot of "watching; not doing anything else" messages.
For example, if one player is negotiating for the party, it'll go:
DM Turn 1
Negotiator Turn 1
Player 2: "watching"
Player 3: "watching"
and then a delay while you wait for Players 4 - 7 to also reply with "watching". If Player 6 has lost internet connection for a few days, and Player 7 has actually quit, it may be a while before you can get to DM Turn 2.
This PbP has moved very fast, and in some cases, that's been a boon.
Other games I've played in, have imposed a post-a-weekday expectation. If the DM posts on Tuesday, and you don't post within 24 hours, the game assumes you're not doing anything that turn / round of combat.

~thinks and chews on my bottom lip~ Hmmmnnnnnnn...... Well, even though I have enjoyed the fact that the game has been moving quickly, I also do not want someone to feel left out or miss something important either.
Vary the pace how you want to and if some one is feeling it is going to fast we can all speak up. I love the fast pace but I know I will not be able to keep up since on some days I will be much busier then normal, such as tomorrow in which I will be out of state.

One thing you can do is simply have everyone post in order, say alphabetical based on characters names unless you specifically suggest otherwise that way it is also easier for you to keep track of.
PS> Jason don't leave the game, it's more fun when we have 2 Jason's playing and we can confuse Sharoth that way. : )

Sharoth |

What the hell? I'm gone for a day and everyone thinks im dropping out? That's crazy talk.. I simply said, if the PbP was moving faster than i could catch up, don't be afraid to NPC my character while i'm not there.. I do have a job to get back to you know lol...
~gives a sigh of relief~ Good! I am glad.... ~I recieve a bill postmarked from Jason~ Ummmmm... ~I open it up and then drop it in shock~ What!?!?! You want 10% of my hoard to keep playing? ~GROWLS~ That does it! Some PCs are toast!
~GRINS~ WB, Jason!

Just to clarify my position at least - I haven't the slightest ability to keep up with the posting rate that this game's been averaging so far, but I'm also not too worried about it. I try to be around for at least 3 or so posts a day for my PbPs, and I commit to at least one a day (barring announced exceptions like vacations and so on) when I join up, but if it goes faster, I can usually catch up as needed. I wouldn't mind a slightly slower pace, but I'm having fun and doing fine, so I'm okay with where we are at the moment. I'm kinda thinking it might slow down some anyway, since that's the way the PbP thing tends to work, in my experience...

So, while we're waiting for Sharoth, does anybody have any questions about anybody else's characters?
fray, the "dark" template makes Kael an outsider from the plane of shadow, yes?
To many to ask, I figure if I want to know 'that bad' I will ask in character or just look up the rules.
I just want to make sure I am not posting too much and keeping the pace to fast.

Just in case anyone wanted to know
~clicks on the link and screams~ My eyes! My poor eyes!
~grins~ Thanks for the info!

Sharoth,
That was frustrating.
I'm not upset, but I want to tell you what just happened, from my perspective.
Sunday morning, I set Seamus up to "champion" Granger, for a couple of reasons, but mainly to get on his good side. (Also, I think Merian has a better chance of surviving if she challenges me.) I'm standing next to the man, and...
...I wait all day Sunday...
...and check back a few times during the day on Monday...
...and during the evening...
...and then, when I go to bed, the characters at the table have a discussion, Lady Chauntessa appears and has a show-down with Lord Granger, he leaves with words to the other PCs, ... all of this happens around Brother Seamus, who stands there stupidly.
And the only way to influence it, would have required me to be awake and on-line at 2:00 in the morning.
As I say, frustrating.

Nope, but it does give me the extraplanar subtype.
Extraplanar Subtype: A subtype applied to any creature when it is on a plane other than its native plane. A creature that
travels the planes can gain or lose this subtype as it goes from plane to plane. Monster entries assume that encounters with
creatures take place on the Material Plane, and every creature whose native plane is not the Material Plane has the extraplanar
subtype (but would not have when on its home plane). Every extraplanar creature in this book has a home plane mentioned in
its description. Creatures not labeled as extraplanar are natives of the Material Plane, and they gain the extraplanar subtype if
they leave the Material Plane. No creature has the extraplanar subtype when it is on a transitive plane, such as the Astral
Plane, the Ethereal Plane, and the Plane of Shadow.
The last sentence is kind of funny in this case as the Plane of Shadow is your new 'native' plane.

Chris, sorry about that. That wasn't our intent but I can see how Brother Seamus got 'misplaced'...
I figured the characters at the table could talk without effecting the Lord Granger part. We got some things out that we going to be said anyways but we didn't have to wait to say/type it.

~grimaces~ Chris, all I can say is I am sorry and I do blame myself. I will do my best to keep things on an evener keel than they have been. I do apologize. Part of it is that I am still new at this and another part is that I have been awake until late in the morning. However, please feel free to voice what concerns you. I may not alway agree, but I will think on what you say and if it is an issue that warrants a change, then I will implement that change.
P.S. - Unfortunatly, another issue that has affected the game is that I have had some RL issues that have popped up. Nothing bad, but like any issues, they do take time to deal with.

Anytime! Just wanting to hit on the thread jacks that have happened twice now.

I'm finally playing! Sorry about the late start, but having spent a couple hours reading over the thread this game is already living up to the high hopes I had for it. Good luck, and thanks for letting me come in 12 pages late...
TWB
thanks for joining us and I do hope you enjoy it.

Expressed his frustration for setting up a situation and not seeing it taken up by the group
Chris, I think I know what you wanted to do, and I'm sorry it didn't work out. Maybe if you had explained it more plainly when you first started that discussion with Granger, or we could have all discussed it in this thread, it would have worked better because we would all know the script, in meta-game terms...
I'll keep this in mind for the next time I'm thinking of doing something complicated in the game -- I know we'll need to be strategic against DM Sharoth.A lot of times in my table top campaigns I will have an action I try or achieve end up "not happening" because the DM forgot a couple of modifiers and it turns out my PC is already dead. Anyway, I'm just saying I understand your disappointment and that the way I deal with it is to take a deep breath and remind myself that DMs are just people too (mostly). Those are my 2 cp.
Welcome aboard, TWB!

Oh, I wasn't frustrated with the other players' actions. Not at all. I was frustrated with the pacing.
And Sharoth did a terrific job of compensating for that, letting Seamus backtrack a little.

![]() |

I feel some of the problem was mine, Fray and I were both up late that evening and wanted to post a lot and do a lot of in game talk, nothing that should have affected your actions, it did however, throw the pace off quite a bit, and as such ruined a nice start at what could have been an interesting piece of roleplaying and as such i just wanted to say, Mea Culpa.

~grins~ Well, I realized that I had screwed up and after the initial reaction of "Oh S@~~ !!! What now?", I moved on and did my best to recover from that slip.

[gloat] So did I come up with a good reason as to why the higher powered people can not or will not get involved in the adventure? [/gloat]
I don't know; it doesn't make sense to me so far. We're talking about slavers here. They're a danger to everybody. I'm guessing that Ankiel (whoever that might be) might object, but the other powers of the city would likely back Lady Chauntessa. Is Quintus a power in the town, or does he stay out of politics?
Either she's an exceptionally poor political negotiator, or there's something else going on. My money's on the latter.
But that gives me an idea ...

Or the DM is still new at this and is trying to wing it while he gets his act together? Or that there is more going on? Or that...?
