HERESY!

Pulp Fiction - yeah. When I was in school I never heard the end of how good it was, and yet I could never find myself feeling anything for any of the characters, or finding any of it darkly humorous. I did like Kill Bill however.

Pulp Fiction reminds me of another one:

Requiem For A Dream

At the beginning of this movie I basically was like, okay, so horrible stuff is going to happen to these people - why? Because they're all making terrible decisions. Imagine my lack of surprise when really bad stuff happened to them in the climax of the film. It was artfully done, but so what? Why should I even care?

Just gawdawful on every level. Pretentious, retarded, demented... Tarantino in general just annoys me, but this movie was the acme of his idiocy, and the one that people gush over so much just makes it all the more eccchhh...

Not so much movies that I can't stand, so much as movies that are decent enough but that I just really don't get the lovefest over, I shall horrify and amaze by saying... the Godfather movies. I get it, everybody loves em. They're all that and a bag of chips. They just don't do a thing for me.

Jason, you're just not in touch with your "inner gangster"...

that and the Last Samurai; I liked them, but why do I constantly have to get Hollywood to put some white guy in there to experience another culture? It's like the Kung Fu t.v. series all over again. Everybody knows Bruce Lee made that show up, and they had to put David Carradine in as Kane because the U.S. would freak out if Bruce Lee was the leading man. But that was the 70's, man. This is still happening now.

It reminds me of the time when George Clooney was bragging how "progressive and enlightened" Hollywood is compared to mainstream America. Really? Nearly every time I watch a movie the minorities in the film are portrayed as drug dealers and/or murderers, rarely ever the good guys.

This is Aberzombie we're talking about. He's waiting for Evil Dead 2 to be adapted on Masterpice Theatre.

Actually, I was thinking Night of the Creeps.

I actually think it's because they think we're all dumbass slackjaws, and not as intellectually hip and groovy as they are; we wouldn't be able to dig their level. They're reduced to pandering.

But,....in their defense,....

We have these coffee cups at work with the world map on them, no country lines, no identifiers, and oh the fun I have asking people to identify stuff.

This is madness!

How about Spider-Man 3. I liked the first two but this one got a little on my nerves. It should have been subtitled *Spider-Man 3: Mary Jane's Whining, Pissing, and Moaning*. Seriously, did she do anything else during the movie?

Jade,

You are correct about Titanic. I would have dumped Kate Winslet in the ocean and used the raft for myself, when I tell this to people they all look aghast ;>

That would have been the wrong thing to do though.

Spoiler:
However, that's hilarious!

Probably, but not another that is as hot as Winslet. :)

Yup. It's watchable, but it's not the brilliant work people make it out to be. Annoys me even more when people (admittedly far fewer of them) gush about Kill Bill.

Dang, I like just about all the movies listed so far.

Hmm, so what movie do I hate?...um...yeah, got nothing...I get into that suspension of disbelief thing way too easily I guess.

Anyway, glad I posted and wasted that time. Nothing to add here...move along...

Independence Day

Talk about a movie with no story line. If I wanted to watch crap blow up I would just watch Die Hard or something.

This is inspired by the "Best Movies You've Never Seen" thread, and one post there in particular.

What are the films that are generally considered to be masterpieces of cinema that just make you want to scream, and why?

For me, it would be 2001: A Space Odyssey. I tried to like it. I really did. But once you get to the third or fourth five-minute shot of a spaceship floating along in real time, you've lost me. The whole thing was incredibly pretentious and annoying, and the pacing was so slow that I couldn't care about anything that happened. And don't even get me started on the Space Baby.

I can't stand anything Woody Allen, even the ones people will be watching ages hence when they want to see the greatest American classics from the late 20th century. I find his neuroticism so annoying and pathetic. I don't find him funny at all.

I have a special Boobie monitoring Third Eye just for special occasions like this. ;)

The Exchange

Karate Kid. And the sequels. They had an open casting call in Philly for the second one and I tried out for a roll as the bad kid in that. They told me I had plenty of background/martial arts training for the roll but that I was too 'tough-looking' for it. They offered me a spot as an extra but I didn't feel that the $50 a day was worth the hassle of uprooting to another state. I should've gone.
But still the movies sucked.

Liberty's Edge

It's prolly for the best. Getting your ass kicked by Ralph Macchio, even for dramatic reasons....

Amen brother.

Liberty's Edge

I wonder if Woody Allen could whup Ralph Macchio.

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

Could Woody Allen whup anyone?
I think my 2 year old Daughter could whup Woody Allen!

Liberty's Edge

I heard that Woody Allen was a special forces tunnel rat in 'Nam.

Or was that Mr. Rogers?

If I had to choose between those two, I'd have to go with Mr Rogers. Should we bring up Woody's way of meeting younger women?

Liberty's Edge

Naaah...

Scarab Sages

maybe the reason Woody was in nam was to adopt asian girls so he can date them.

Wax on, wax off.

I did like the first one, but that before I actually studied karate and came to the realization that if a sucker adopts the crane stance I just have to step out of line and kick his ass ;>

Karate kid III, for me was the worst, but it does hold a golden nugget of wisdom: If a man cannot stand he cannot fight.

3:10 to Yuma.

blarf. so many people told me that this was a good movie that I absolutely needed to see.

ugh. TERRIBLE.

That's Hollywood for you. Incidentally, 300 was so tacky I enjoyed it a lot, FREEDOM! and all. I was kind of expecting a children's choir starting to sing Star-Spangled Banner on that one.

I liked it too; slow motion eviscerations and everything;

the whole motif of people who were, for all intents and purposes within two standard deviations of what it is to be a nazi, going around yodelling "freeeeeeeeedoooooommmmm!!!!!" just gets to me.

And in my own defense ask any helot; the nazi comparison in this instance is a fair one and therefore not threadbreaking.

Even more so when you consider that Hitler modeled Nazi culture after the Spartans, at least in part.
