Jeeze Pax, I'm so sorry I didn't get back to you! I hadn't even noticed you'd posted! : (

I hope everything went over alright...

I'd be more than glad to see your writeup, however, if you're willing to post it.

---

Okay, I'm getting ready to get back into this again after a bit of a break. Currently I'm sitting on the galeb duhr and should have it (well, them - there are two variants in the 4E Monster Manual) up later today.

Liberty's Edge

And the galeb duhr earthbreaker is up:
http://www.mediafire.com/?iiiidiotzd2

Notice that the link has idiot in the random letter generation? Methinks that mediafire is insulting me!

I might have the second one up later tonight but there's no guarantee. ;)

Sovereign Court

With a heavy dose of prepping and rp, the party only made it to the inner barbican and blasted the main doors to the inner keep.

Winter wolves, and Ice Haunts (a la creature collection II revised) met them in the courtyard.

Long story short, if you have a moment, the Ice Archon will actually meet them this coming Monday.

I'm headed to work, but if time permits, I'll show you what I have, or if its easy for you, I'm looking for the creature at approximately half its power...

Thanks for the Galeb Duhr, I'll check it out now.

Happy New Year, Gene. And, thanks.

I apologize for getting it to you last minute, but here's an ice archon at roughly half power.

To you as well, man. Hope you had a good one.

And really, thank you, you've gotten me all motivated and everything to work on a mini-sourcebook. You guys are a great morale boost, you keep me running. :D

Hey guys, hope you had a great holiday season and are looking at a promising 2009. I'm back, and slowly getting back into the swing of things.
I will list below the 4e minis that I think are the only ones that Gene has not tackled yet:

DoD
Deathjump Spider (Not a high priority, as there are plenty of spiders out there that the mini can serve for.)
Howling Hag Did we already put this in the queue? It's a good looking mini. Of course, it can be another medium-sized hag.

AtG
Blazing Skeleton I'm kind of surprised it took Wizards this long to put out a blazing skeleton. Wasn't there one in the original 3e basic boxed game?

Demonweb
I think I've already mentioned that I'm really happy with the newest (and last of its kind) set. I will list the ones I have that call for conversion, in order of coolness by category. Exception: Have they stopped giving away checklists in favor of making you go online for it? Chumps.

The Big
Phaseweb Spider A phase spider with a phase web?
The Thoon Hulk I'm big, I'm bad (except for the pointy things instead of claws), and I'm closed content.

The Cool
Soulrider Devil Took me a while to figure this mini out, and loved it when I did.
Runespiral Demon I almost listed this one first.
Shadow Flayer I get my illithids confused, other than the standard one. Is this equally closed cousin out there somewhere?
Corruption Corspe A little oversized (I hate inconsistency), but better detail than your average undead mini.
Deathlock Wight Of course, it can just be a wight.

The Lame
Infernal Armor Kinda lame, as already complained. Maybe not as bad as I first thought, but not good.
Scythejaw Ugh.

The Undecided
Of course I ended up with both Kruthiks. What do you guys think? It seems like there are a couple of Pathfinder monsters that they could pass for. Did they appear anywhere in 3e other than the MiniHB?

Spoiler:
Yeah, the Crazed Kuo-Toa doesn't need conversion, but I got one, so I will now complain. While it arguably looks more like the Kuo-Toa of old, why oh why would they walk away from the sweet-looking, detailed minis that they made in the latter days of 3.5?
Stirges are a drop in quality, but still very usable. The Lolthbound Goblin is very sweet. Aside from a couple of lame monster ideas and a couple of supercheap looking executions (and not just commons, but at least one rare) I still think its a better than average set, and while it might be hard to compare it to AtG, clearly better than DoD.

Gene, I saw you putting your toes in pool. Good for you. I know I'm not as helpful as Pax these days, but I'm cheering you on. I hope you guys both got lots of minis for Xmas, to start off the New Year right! :D

Ignore the checklist comment. I must have momentarily lost my mind in the breeze.

Sovereign Court

Hey G & M - great to see you both back. The Galeb Duhr looked good. The Ice Archon appears tonight. And for the first time in my Gming career, I actually anticipate a TPK. I don't want to kill characters, so THANK YOU for the 1/2 power Ice Archon. He's teamed up with an Ice Elemental, and the stat blocks of the Tolstoff brother and sister from Exemplars of Evil (renamed as Zorche and Trevord Zanesti, the interrex cousin rulers of the Barony during the mysterious disappearance of the Baroness. The worst news will be when they meet an Aspect of Malcanthet below the castle... ugh. This will be naasty.

SIDEBAR: Come to think of it, Gene and M, maybe we should do some module publishing together - might be fun to start up a small company that just occasionally publishes really great modules, with awesome OGL stat blocks. What do you think? I know I have strengths and weaknesses, but don't we all? - Together, the work load would be shared, each of us working according to our strengths, and doing all work virtually, without the overhead of office space. I can offer an original world, pantheon, saints, world map, kingdom map, local Barony maps, etc., and adventure story lines - if the two of you could offer stat blocks, page layout, proofreading, (possible graphics & art) and marketing relations...or whatever your strengths are (stuff you like to do). IMHO, I think we have a good working chemistry and positive attitude. Let me know what you think about this idea - a few extra bucks wouldn't hurt eh? My thought is to do this in v.3.5. or Pathfinder, but never 4e.

You guys ever use the chat room?

The current list of minis to stat is as follows:

Galeb Duhr
Angel of Retribution
Blazing Skeleton
Large-sized Bulette
Soulrider Devil
Howling Hag

Would you like me to add the minis that you've listed to it?

I'd be up for eventually doing something, but I feel I should warn you that I'm worthless when it comes to art (my idea of beautiful maps involves Microsoft paint and excel :p). Right now wouldn't be a good time for me to do something like this, however, as I'm currently working on getting my own mini-book put out. After that, though, I'd be more than glad to make some contributions (I'm capable of pretty much anything so long as I'm given time, though I feel my fluff writing skills are somewhat lacking; I'm more of a mechanics person). I'd prefer to work with 3.5 as that's what I'm most comfortable with; though if necessary I could work with Pathfinder.

A time or two. Though whenever I've gone in there it's been empty.

Gene wrote:

Why...sure! Rubs his twisted arm. Although, feel free to take my assessments in light of Pax's eventual comments. I get the feeling that Pax buys individually and not by booster pack, and he certainly gets to play more often than I do. (I go back and forth in my strategy, and while I highly recommend ebay for getting exactly what you want, I am currently in a booster mode.)

BTW, I am still in dissertation mode. So Pax, some time in May might be a better time to continue the conversation that you initiated above.

Sovereign Court

Okay M - good luck with your disertation. And I can certainly wait for your and Gene to finish his new work. I look back on my 26 years of playing d&d, and I realize that if I team up with a good statistician we would be unstoppable. We can continue this dicussion later.

AND... I do like your list. And you might inspire me to buy a booster or two. I have been buying them as singles because I have a few game stores in my area that can supply them that way.

My current group formed 3/06 and has played every Monday since. So yeah, I play a lot these days. I bought nearly an entire collection of minis from someone who was moving on to play warmachine. As such, I now have thousands.... I like to have 8-10 of a kind so I can have battles at all kinds of different CR ratings as the situation warrants.

In last night's battle, the PCs breached the defenses of the castle courtyard. A wand of Web certainly imeded their progress. No permanent casualties, except for one PC who is permanently paralzyed due to some carrion crawler brain juice poison. Otherwise they're good to go for next week as they meet the bbeg's inside.

I used the chatroom only once with Lilith and some others... maybe we should try this sometime— or, we could become facebook friends?!?

Hey Gene - can you include the CR for the creatures you're statting-up? The higher the CR, the less of these I buy... So far, I've got all the items you've worked on, except for the Chillborn Zombie, which reminds me of the Ice Haunt from Creature Collection Revised. Anyhow, if you get a chance can you put this list up with proposed CRs... and I'll get to the task of acquiring these figures in the right proportions... thanks.

Sure thing! Here are the current estimates:

Galeb Duhr (I have the Rock Caller to do yet; CR 9)
Angel of Retribution (Basing it off of the Angel of Vengeance; CR 15)
Blazing Skeleton (CR 3)
Large-sized Bulette (CR 5)
Soulrider Devil (No idea; I have to get hold of the mini card; estimated at around CR 7)
Howling Hag (CR 5)
Deathjump Spider (CR 2)
Phaseweb Spider (No idea; I have go get hold of the mini card; estimated at around CR 3)
Thoon Hulk (Absolutely no idea; I think I'll base it off of the thoon mind flayers in Monster Manual 4)
Runespiral Demon (No idea; I have to get hold of the mini card)
Shadow Flayer (No idea; I have to get hold of the mini card)
Corruption Corpse (No idea; I have to get hold of the mini card; estimated at around CR 4)
Deathlock Wight (CR 4)

Sovereign Court

Marvelous, thank you.

Liberty's Edge

Glad to be of service. :D

Demonweb stat cards. Were these the only ones you were missing?
Are the two angels that similar? I noticed they are on opposite ends of the temperature spectrum. (I guess revenge is hot and retributive justice is cold?)

Those were the ones I was missing! Thanks!

As for the angels, I'll just be using the base stats (ability scores, resistances, et cetera). It'll likely have totally different abilities and whatnot.

Liberty's Edge

Okay, bit of an update. First of all, I've moved all previous .pdfs that I've uploaded to a different account on mediafire. This has the negative effect of invalidating all previous links I've posted. However, this has two positive effects. One, it gave me some lazy time ('cause I didn't want to have to reformat my site for the new links) which I used to stat up the galeb duhr rockcaller; and two, it's given me the idea to contain an ever updating list of monsters in my posts (the list will be located in a spoiler at the end of any post I make that adds a new monster).

Anyways, here's a link to the galeb duhr rockcaller:
Galeb Duhr Rockcaller

And here's the pretty list of everything I've done up to this point:

Sovereign Court

The CR7 Ice Archon met the PCs finally last night. It stood its ground for 5 rounds (the party split and confronted multiple NPCS). Unfortunately the Thundercasp Spell knocked it prone. We had to stop for the night. I'm wondering - - I guess any creature can be knocked prone, even an Ice Archon, right. The spells purpose is to knock the foe prone. What do you think Gene & M.?

Good to know it survived that long.

As for being knocked prone, most things can indeed be knocked prone. I don't think I could tell you a single monster off the top of my head that's immune to being knocked down. Of course, once monsters start getting larger (size category wise) it becomes incredibly difficult to knock them down. Likewise creatures with multiple legs are more difficult to knock down as well.

That spell is a legitimate tactic, of course, but remember, if the players start to abuse it you can always turn the table back on them. Heck, you don't even need to use the spell, just throw an ogre with a few fighter levels (so he has the feats to pick up improved trip) and and a flail at your PCs and watch 'em fear for their lives as he trips them and then bloodies them on their way down ('cause apparently tripping your opponent causes an attack of opportunity).

Sovereign Court

Okay.... here's where I'm at with these...

Galeb Duhr (I have the Rock Caller to do yet; CR 9) GOT IT
Angel of Retribution (Basing it off of the Angel of Vengeance; CR 15) GOT IT
Blazing Skeleton (CR 3) ORDERED 4
Large-sized Bulette (CR 5) GOT IT
Soulrider Devil (No idea; I have to get hold of the mini card; estimated at around CR 7) ORDERED 8
Howling Hag (CR 5) ORDERED 8
Deathjump Spider (CR 2) GOT IT
Phaseweb Spider (No idea; I have go get hold of the mini card; estimated at around CR 3) ORDERED 4
Thoon Hulk (Absolutely no idea; I think I'll base it off of the thoon mind flayers in Monster Manual 4) ORDERED 1
Runespiral Demon (No idea; I have to get hold of the mini card) ORDERED 8
Shadow Flayer (No idea; I have to get hold of the mini card) ORDERED 1
Corruption Corpse (No idea; I have to get hold of the mini card; ORDERED 4 estimated at around CR 4) ORDERED 4
Deathlock Wight (CR 4) ORDERED 16

Hopefully CRs will be high enough on the Thoon and Shadow Flayer that I'll only need 1. They're not very cool looking, low level of detail, and they're expensive, relatively speaking.

Thanks for your continued work, Gene. I am glad to be of some value to you in terms of support.

Well, thanks to the link that Mairkurion posted I can give you rough CR estimates on both the Thoon and the Shadow Flayer. On the Thoon I'm going to be looking at CR 12 and on the Shadow Flayer I'm estimating it at CR 10.

So the final sets of CR look like so:
Deathjump Spider (CR 2)
Corruption Corpse (CR 2)
Blazing Skeleton (CR 3)
Runespiral Demon (CR 3)
Deathlock Wight (CR 4)
Large-sized Bulette (CR 5)
Howling Hag (CR 5)
Phaseweb Spider (CR 7)
Soulrider Devil (CR 7)
Shadow Flayer (CR 10)
Thoon Hulk (CR 12)
Angel of Retribution (CR 15)

And thanks for the support, it keeps me going. :p

The fun continues! I'm jealous of you, Pax, and all your new minis. Oh well, I did get my box of Crimson Throne awesomeness this week, so I'm good. Things are getting incredibly busy for me, so I'll probably be posting less, but I'll continue to check-in on you guys. BTW, if you missed RickSummon's thread on Night Hags, take a look and tell me what you think. It made me want to include one in a starring role, once I get to game again. (sigh) Keep up the good work, Gene, and enjoy all the time you have to spend on it, ya young whipper-snapper (cough-cough-hack)!

Pax Veritas wrote:

Web golem = more drow goodness

Yes, it could be an oxymoron, but you know what I mean: want it. In February I will discover if I have the internal fortitude to get another booster of AtG, or if I will give in to DW greed.

Oh, and re the Crimson Throne: not just the cards, but the entire AP.

Liberty's Edge

Pax Veritas wrote:

Spiffy monster, creepy mini, sadly the paint job is somewhat lacking (seems to lack depth; some darker white in the creases would have made it look better - still, it's wicked looking).

Still... I want one... I really should get around to ordering a case of Demonweb minis before they're gone.

I think I'm going to add it to... THE LIST!!! *dramatic music*

I'm sorry to hear that it doesn't look as good in person as it should. Maybe I will add it to the pile of minis that I want my daughter to repaint. I'm guessing, based on past availability, that the DW boosters should be with us for awhile. Have you heard something different?

Like I said, really the only problem with it is the depth shading. Aside from that it looks good. as for DW availability, my definition of when they're gone is 'a good number of months away.' WotC probably won't stop printing them until they've gotten a set or two of their new 'monsters' line out; at least that's how I believe they did it with D&D minis before the changeover.

I namely said it like that 'cause I lack any sort of stready income so getting money together (especially enough for a whole case) takes awhile. :D

Sovereign Court

Yes, I look at the web golem and think - man, the quality is much less these days.

Liberty's Edge

Pax Veritas wrote:

Aye. Though some of the paintjobs on the new minis do look kinda cool (namely on rares and whatnot). I first noticed a marked decrease in quality when the switched from using actual sculptors for their minis over to a CAD program instead.

It's a true shame, but I still try and pick up a booster or two (at least) of every set they release. Though I think that once they switch over to their new format I'm going to just start buying pewter minis again; their prices are just getting far too high for the number of minis you get in a pack (like 6 minis for 15 dollars; I'd rather buy three or four pewter minis for that and paint them how I like them).

Sovereign Court

Yeah, wotc is dead to me. I just don't feel they have the interests of the game or the gamer in mind.

I still, however, participate in the open market of mini singles. I've got 5 or 6 of those Deathlock Wights now... looking forward to your newest creations, Gene!

P.s. I'm thinking maybe-no to the web golem, just cause it looks kinda poorly made.

Liberty's Edge

Pax Veritas wrote:

Likewise, I've been picking up singles for a long while. At times it's just easier.

As for the creations... I've been a bit lazy and I should apologize for that. I'll get back to 'em tomorrow (promise!); the next minis I should have out in this order:
Deathjump Spider (CR 2)
Corruption Corpse (CR 2)
Runespiral Demon (CR 3)
Deathlock Wight (CR 4)

And I'll just be continuing down the list from there. :D

Pax Veritas wrote:

I'm going to keep it on the list but since it'll be higher CR (looking like 9 or 10) it'll probably be awhile before I get to it. I'm getting the lower CR monsters out of the way first.

Sovereign Court

Makes sense... marvelous!

Liberty's Edge

And here's the new batch of brutality!

The Corruption Corpse.
The Runespiral Demon.

Cheers! :)

No I do not; I do intend to update it as soon as I hit 25 monsters converted, however (I'm currently sitting at 21 monsters converted).

So in one or two more updates I shall update the Bestiary to reflect everything up to this point. It will of course be bookmarked and feature a list of monsters sorted by CR.
