When I brought up the hippogriff, I was just celebrating my pleasant surprise. I probably need to buy another one to celebrate more fully--the one looks lonely as it watches the tundra scout foolishly rush Icingdeath across the coffee table. And here I swore off the new line...
Stat need: Adamantine Dragon; Bloodseeker Drake

![]() |

Is the Berbalang-lang-land-do-lang-do-lang, on our list?
Probably not; I don't own the source material it originated from and I can't get hold of it without resorting to piracy (which, as a rule, I'm opposed to).
Gene, if you feel like adding to the queue, how about the adamantine dragon and the bloodseeker drake?
I suppose I can add them. The dragon should be interesting, I've never stated one of those before.
---
The current list is as follows:
Bloodseeker Drake (CR 2 or 3 - Dangerous Delves mini)
Scythe Jaw (CR 7 - Demonweb Mini)
Web Golem (CR 9 - Demonweb Mini) - UPDATE BESTIARY
Shadow Flayer (CR 10 - Demonweb Mini)
Thoon Hulk (CR 12 - Demonweb mini)
Angel of Retribution (CR 15 - Against the Giants mini)
Rakshasa Assassin (CR 15 - Demonweb mini)
Fire Titan (CR 20 - Against the Giants mini) - UPDATE BESTIARY
Adamantine Dragon (CR Variable - Against the Giants mini)
I'm currently stating up the Scythe Jaw. Should have it done today assuming I get some time to work on it.

Great, Gene!
Pax, what is the source for this SE Asian vampiric-head-thing that makes you break out in doo-wop song?
Wait a minute, how about this?
Didn't something similar to this show up in Pathfinder? I packed all my stuff back upstairs, sadly, with the end of "gaming month".

You might be thinking about the Chupacabra.... can't seem to get that creature's name out of my head. It has a long scary history, and PAIZO stated it in one of their monthly chronicle issues.
Yeah - I think the enworld stat for Berbalang looks good. Is there a database that houses those coversions? There are several others on the Web, in case you didn't know, where you can find 1e and 2e stuff made for 3.x.
But nothing, nothing compares. No THING com pares to Gene! Ah ah ah ah!
So, problem solved, as I am sure both M and I are also ANTI-pirating... unless we get to wear eye patches, or sit on couches with other vegetables. hehe

Mairkurion {tm} |

I was sure I remembered a Paizo illustration with a lot of heads flying around. And maybe even a thread somewhere about different kinds of vampiric creatures...and somebody brought up the Hellboy cartoon extra...might have even been me.
I only want to be a pirate if the pirates win. Because then, it's not pirating, of course. Until then, it's probably best saved for Halloween, and for my personal fantasy of what it will be like when Paizo moves into its new building.

Just downloaded the conversion compendium, and it looks really, really great. Thanks, Gene.
Glad you're enjoying it. :D

I've just finished the Scythejaw, for those interested here's a link:
Scythejaw
Up next is the Bloodseeker Drake (low CR monsters are easier to stat up so they get priority) followed by the Web Golem.

Casey's Coast-To-Coast...!
I'm sir Casey Casem, this week the v.3.5 Stat Block Conversion thread slips from number 1, all the way down to number 60. A listener named Tracy writes, "Dear Sir Casey, I've been reading Gene's monster stats and I LOVE how he does it. Gene, M and Pax pick out only the coolest minis from 4e, and Gene writes up awesome conversion stats for v.3.5 and Pathfinder RPG games. Pax uses them quite a bit, and reports any play-test or typo discrepencies. M, makes me laugh with his singing! So, Casey, would you please play, "Creature Conversion Compendium" by the band, Monster Machine? And if you don't mind, I'd like to quote the line in the song that is very special to me:
"You're all I want outa four-dot-Oh,
When Gene stats you up, I jus' need to go,
And see how well the party survivies,
Against converted creatures, yeah, 3.5 Thrives!"
Well, Tracy, the thread at number 60 shoots straight up to number one again, since I am posting your comment. And Gene will be back soon, to delight you with another creature. Thanks for writing in to tell us how much the Creature Conversion Compendium means to you.
I'm sir Casey Casem, and we're countin' down the coolest v.3.5 stat blok conversions for 4e minis. Stay tuned.

Turns up the volume, hoping to catch the strains of Gene's latest hit.
"Lord knows I call in requests..."
Volume on my station goes up to eleven. :D

Okay, got a new critter for you guys, I present the Bloodseeker Drake:
Drake, Bloodseeker
He's only CR 2, but a bit of advancement would probably make him a nightmare for most melee fighters, he'd likely also be a problem for casters and archers who are fond of taking a 5-foot step backwards before unleashing their payload.
Up next is the Web Golem (and a compendium update) followed by the Shadow Flayer. No clue where I'm going to fit that dragon in. :p

Added to the list. It'll probably be CR 1 or 2, should be interesting to stat. Just looking at it I can see it having a pretty typical spore puff attack (probably a 15 or 20 foot burst) that deals some sort of damage (possibly acid?) then when the party kills it it'll release a larger burst (probably 30 to 40 foot) of ability score (probably STR or CON) damage poison.
Hmmmmm... I think it'll be a fun one. I shall stat it tomorrow.

![]() |

Whew-hoo! It seems to be a mini people dump, but I like the looks of that big 'shroom.
Ah... has perhaps M's interests declined to a state of utilitarianism, i.e. whatever is in the new box becomes a request?
Or............ do you just like shrooms because you can smoke them, eat them, and shriek/attack with them?

![]() |

Gene is awesome. I'm saving off everything that gets posted. All you ppl who feed requests to Gene so that he has ample projects with which to occupy himself and benefit us are almost as awesome as Gene.
Glad you're getting some use out of the converted beasties! :D

Okay folks, here's the deathcap (CR 2):
Fungus, Deathcap
They're really more of a trap-type creature than anything, I can see them being troublesome if paired with other plant creatures (like violet fungi and shambling mounds).
I should have a bestiary update up sometime either today or tomorrow (waiting on getting that cover art).

Also, one quick request. If any one of you could click the following link I would appreciate it:
http://pnpproductions.awardspace.us/Monsters/4E to 3.5/Fungus, Deathcap.pdf
I would like anyone to confirm that clicking the above link opens up a new tab in your browser that is a direct link to the Fungus, Deathcap .pdf file. If so, please let me know.
Thanks!

![]() |

Link works. Pops in new window, the shroom .pdf.
And M., what happened to your light-hearted nature? Perhaps the discertaion has you stressed? Just kidding about utilitarianism. Love the shoom. Me want shroomcakes!!!
Yes, Gene is awesome.
Perhaps it is time for another song of encouragement.... M.? Wanna hum a few bars?

![]() |

Link works. Pops in new window, the shroom .pdf.
Excellent! I think I'll be hosting them all like this, then. It'll allow you guys to bypass using mediafire to download monsters (though the Compendium will still be hosted on mediafire due to file-size limitations) and it'll make updating single monster entries MUCH easier, too! I won't even have to reformat links after monster updates as the address will remain the same.

![]() |

Yeah. If I didn't have this strange snafu between Firefox and Foxit (come on! They both have fox in them!), it'd work perfectly, Gene.
I was worried about compatibility with other readers (I'm using Acrobat myself).
You should still be able to right-click/save-as the link and it should snag a copy for ya.

Mairkurion {tm} |

Yeah, that is what I do.
Foxit won't do two things: it stopped working inside Firefox, and it doesn't show the front page of most pdfs for some odd reason. If they'd fix those two things, Adobe would be cast down from its throne and it would be trampled in the dust by the feet of econos like me. Well...it's still pretty much cast down, but we're not throwing bacchanalic parties like we would...

![]() |

I've been using Foxit on my laptop for the past week or so and I've found it decidedly superior to Adobe (barring the Firefox issues, of course). I was especially surprised at how much faster it 'reads' the documents, text pops in almost instantly whereas it often takes a few moments with Adobe.
The only reason I use adobe on my PC is 'cause my older brother was nice enough to give me his old copy of Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional, which I use to format and convert all my .doc files into .pdf files. I had been using a web-based converter for awhile, but it messed with my formatting and wouldn't let me use custom fonts.

Doc_Outlands |

Just wanted to chime in...
I would like anyone to confirm that clicking the above link opens up a new tab in your browser that is a direct link to the Fungus, Deathcap .pdf file. If so, please let me know.
Thanks!
It opens a new tab in Firefox straight to the pdf of the Deathcap.
I'd written the reply before noon, but forgot to hit submit before I dashed off to town. In the interest of encouragement, tho, I went ahead and posted the reply. :D

![]() |

Alrighty folks, thanks for letting me know it works! :)
Sorry it's still not working on your end Mairkurion {tm}, my laptop is running XP service pack 3 with adobe acrobat 8 and it reads them properly. I really don't know what could be causing them to flub up on your machine.
I've switched all the links listed in the spoiler below to use the new format (except for the compilation - which I can't host there due to file size limitations for the time being). All of the monsters listed below are their most recent versions and include fixes to various little errors (mostly spelling and whatnot, though a few layout issues were fixed as well - nothing mechanical has changed so there really isn't a pressing need to update beyond just wanting to have the most up-to-date copy).
I'm still waiting on the cover art for the next version of the Creature Conversion Compendium, I've got everything already set up for it, just need the cover art and I should be able to upload it right away.

Updated Entries:
Bugbear Headreaver
- Fixed flavor text typo (no longer do bugbear headreavers wander around carrying axes coated with 'tried blood,' it now properly reads 'dried blood').
- Fixed the entry on lore to read properly (no more 'a successful knowledge (XXX) check will reveal the following information about XXX).
A bunch of other small fixes were made to several other entries (spelling errors corrected, incorrect punctuation, et cetera).

Okay, here's a link to the new updated Compendium (up to 35 entries total):
Creature Conversion Compendium - No cover - Version 5
Still no cover. My artist has assured me that he's 'working on it.' Which I doubt.
Anyways, up next to be stated is the Web Golem followed by the Shadow Flayer and Thoon Hulk. I'll probably work on them over this coming weekend.
Cheers folks!
---
A question arises, though. I'll eventually be stating the adamantine dragons. Do you guys want an example dragon at each age category or just a single example dragon at whatever size category the miniature is at?

Hmm... stages. I actually like that idea a good bit. I may run with it.
I will of course stat the large versions first. Immediate usability is VERY important to me when stating these things up. Thus far I'm looking at the following sizes for the various age categories:
Wyrmling - Medium (CR 3)
Very Young - Large (CR 5)
Young - Large (CR 7)
Juvenile - Large (CR 9)
Young Adult - Huge (CR 11)
Adult - Huge (CR 13)
Mature Adult - Huge (CR 15)
Old - Gargantuan (CR 17)
Very Old - Gargantuan (CR 20)
Ancient - Gargantuan (CR 23)
Wyrm - Collosal (CR 26)
Great Wyrm - Collosal (CR 30)
These fellas are gonna get very big very fast. I dunno where I'm going to fit them into the 'dragon ecosystem,' though. I have an old Dragon magazine that mentions more general metallic dragons (beyond the core - stuff like iron dragons and whatnot) and I'll probably mine that for inspiration.

![]() |

In wondrous anticipation, and with some of M's gentle arm-twisting, I purchased the dragon this past weekend during Free RPG Day. As such, I only have need for the related stats for the actual mini size. If said dragon size does not change, I am okay with other variants, but don't have any immediate need.
Thanks Gene. I cannot wait to unleash this dragon upon my players.
We are doing a great community service here, and keeping v.3.5 Alive!!!!

![]() |

*sigh*
Board monster ate my post.
To summarize:
Dragon Magazines: I have 356 but not 321. I do have a friend who has 321 so I'll be borrowing it to look over.
Large Size: I'll probably be stating these three up first. Just to be safe. I'm thinking of avoiding the tables that are used for dragons in the monster manuals and just give each one a stat block (if I shrink the font size I can probably even fit two dragons to a page - at least the younger ones).
CR (Tangent): I also won't be pulling any of the CR crap that WotC pulled with dragons in 3.5. If it says CR 9 it'll be CR 9 not CR 14.
Lore (Tangent): I'm wondering how I'll do this as well. Perhaps just a general lore category for all the dragons?
