Kora nodded, obviously relieved. She reached over the pew and shook Rin by his arm, still keeping her arm out of reach of his mouth. "'Ey! Wake up! We got questions we need answered and we need 'em fast! You got any bad blood goin' around here?"
At Kora's insistant shaking, the Rin wakes and tries to sit up.
"Where.. where am I?. How are you.. didn't the wolf attack?" He looks at each of you, dazed, at places a hand on his to his maul-sized headache.Based on what the priest said, you think the 'wolf' he is talking about is actually him. The fact he has yet to realize he was the 'wolf' comes from his subconscious trying to keep him sane.

"We think there might be two wolves, but yes we got one of them. We needed to know if anyone is upset with you... we have reason to think someone was aiming at your group of friends specifically." Elijah covers smoothly.
"My mom wasn't to happy that I was leaving for my new job, but she couldn't have set a wolf on me, she doesn't like dogs. Um.. other than that I think I remember accidently knocking over someone in the market..." This continues on for a while, and you begin to think he was just a random target... until he describes meeting(and in a drunken stupor, insulting) someone a few days before he left for his job who sounds a lot like Hecate...

Kora had taken a seat in the pew behind Rin as he went on about the long list of people who couldn't possibly be who they were looking for. She then nearly choked at the description that matched Hecate. "Whoa! Wait a moment! Where was this? What did ya do?"
"I think it was at the Dragon's Scale, a tavern near the edge of town. I was a little drunk and I bumped into her. She stumbled and said," he glances toward the priest, "certain obsceneties. In my drunken state I may have said certain things that may have hinted about what she could share her nights with. I haven't seen her since her fist flew into my face."
If asked he will lead you to the Inn.

Elijah shakes his head at the two then turns to the cleric, "Do you think she'll be content with what she has wrought and leave it at this?"
Sorry for the delay, had to think about the next part...
"If she put such a curse on this man because he made a drunken slight on her, I fear what would happen if she feels seriously offended. It may be better if you can find and stop her before she can do more harm.""Don't want to talk, eh? We have ways of making you talk ... Why don't you take us to the Inn and answer our questions on the way?" ;-)
At first I thought that winking smiley face wasn't ooc and I was planning something funny, but then I looked again. Drat.
Rin looks at Sehkola.
"Um, sure. This way."
I didn't need to think about the conversations, just what might happen after them.

Kora Oaks |

"Huh." Kora took in the dreary sights as they entered the tavern. "Can't imagine why I never came in here before..."
"Hey, barkeep! Four drinks!" she said as she made her way to the bar. She kept a wary eye out to make sure beer was the only thing that went in their cups.
If he comes back with them:
"Hey, we're lookin' for a girl for our pal here. She went and turned his world upside down and he ain't been the same ever since! Ya seen her? Wears black. Kinda spooky lookin'. Sweet girl, really." She was being flippant, but part of it was in reaction to the dark and sour mood around the place. It was as if she were trying to protest having to be as miserable as everyone else in the room.

"We get a few looking like that coming in here nowadays, but I think I know who your talking about. Not everyday we get to see a lady beat the living dead out of man. She's usually here around 12 bells* so I'm sure if you wait here and eat a bit she'll be here. Careful though, sometimes she comes in here with some guy." He's description isn't of Oroth though, but of another person no one in town knows much about.
*Midnight. Living dead does not mean anything.

Kora Oaks |

Kora looked for a table in the corner, or at least in a place that wouldn't draw a lot of attention, and motioned for the others to follow. "Let's find a seat then. Cayden's sake, so she's a regular here? Never would'a guessed."
She found herself wondering more and more just how long her town had been going crazy.
Hey DM! Your version of Sandpoint still has the Chopper murders taking place five years ago, right?

Elijah Blair |

Elijah looks around then speaks up, "You know, people are going to be here tonight, and the barkeep is going to want to run his business. If we go after Hecate in here it's going to be messy. We know she doesn't care about bystanders. Let's either get to her before she comes in or after she leaves. No point bothering everyone else."

I'm going to let you plan before midnight rolls around.
Hey DM! Your version of Sandpoint still has the Chopper murders taking place five years ago, right?
The Chopper muders were set before the Rise of the Runelords AP started right? And this game takes place after that, so yeah the murders happened five years ago. Who here has played RotRl?

Kora Oaks |

"Be better to tag her after she leaves. We wanna know why she's comin' here after all." Kora doubted it would be possible to take Hecate alive. In truth, she hoped they would manage to get the jump on her and be done with the freak before she had time to retaliate.

I'm playing in a RotRL PbP here. I'm trying hard to avoid spoilers. :)

Sehkola |

"Agreed. After she leaves, then. I may need to remain out of sight, of course, as a 7' tall Mwangi stands out in this town somewhat."
I'm also in a RoTRL pbp, but we're still in the goblin attack, so I don't even know about the Chopper murders yet. And I don't own the AP, so please don't spoil anything for me! :-)

Okay, this is assuming you all find places where you can stay out of sight and still watch for Hecate.
Only a few moments after 12 bells, the tavern owner's words prove true. Hecate walks into the tavern. And sits down at a(strangely) empty table. Moments later, a man you have never seen before enters the the tavern and sits with her. They seem to be having a good time talking about something. An hour later the man leaves and Hecate follows shortly after.

Kora Oaks |

Kora tapped the hilt of her shortsword, whispering to the others after their quarry had left. "So what's it gonna be? Take 'er down or take 'er in?" There was an urgent tone in her voice. She was ready to rush in and be done with it while she still had some drink in her system keeping her doubts at bay.

Elijah Blair |

"You know... she hasn't done anything wrong here tonight. It would be one thing if she was terrorizing the people or doing something, but right now it looks like she was just here on a date. We might say hi, but I don't rightly think we have a reason to simply assualt her." Elijah says.

Kora Oaks |

"There is that." she gestured towards Sehkola with a wry smirk. "Hey, whatever we're gonna do, we better do it fast. If it makes ya feel any better 'Lijah, we can just beat the hell outta her and take 'er to the guard. Hell, maybe they'll get a straight answer outta her. She's already caused some deaths 'round here, even if she didn't do it up close an' personal."
It was clear that she was trying to sound even-handed about the matter, but she couldn't hide the nervous energy building up inside her. Right now, she was ready for a scrap. The past few days were bringing back a bit of the recklessness she thought she had shed.

Elijah Blair |

"What we know is one person's vague rememberance of bumping someone that fits her discription while drunk and blaming her for a curse put on him. One person that doesn't know a thing about magic, and didn't even realize he was the monster he was trying to track down. Not exactly a prime witness there... Let's just talk to her. Ask -- politely -- why she is in town, and chat her up some. If she attacks we can always defend ourselves, and if not we might be able to gleen some insight as to what she and her brother are up to." Elijah suggests.

Elijah Blair |

"Where we invaded their home to save a child. I'll call that one even. Look I'm not saying she's good, but we don't have much to really go on right now, that is justifiable in the eyes of the law. It would be reactionary to kill her -- or even just beat her up -- on hearsay and a one time disagreement we had in her home." Elijah shrugs, "But thank you for understanding my point of view. Well my idea, so I guess I'll go talk with her..."

![]() |

The below is assuming Elijah(and possible Kora and Sehkola) go after Hecate. Spoilered in case this is not what your doing.
"Ah, the man with a hammer. I suppose your here about something I did? I can assure you, other than the child I have done little recently. It is rather boring actually, but orders are orders..."

Kora Oaks |

Kora had raised her hands as if in defeat back at the tavern. "Fine, talk to her. Don't mind if I hang back a bit, then? Just in case?" She produced a sap from her belt, to ensure them that her reasons for wanting to hold back weren't to avoid danger entirely and that she was willing to at least try to avoid killing Hecate if a fight did break out.
If there were no protests:
Kora let Elijah go as far forward as she could without losing him before following. When he came to a stop, she circled around the block as quickly as she could, to place herself where she could sneak up on Hecate from behind if it came to blows between her and the others.

Elijah Blair |

"Well we were curious about a young man that had a bad case of lycanthropy. He gave a description that matched yours and said he bumped into you while drunk in the tavern over there." Elijah says, "That disease ended up costing several others their lives, and we are trying to get to the bottom of where it came from."

Amazing. I am the one far from home, yet this paladin is the naive one! Sehkola thinks to himself, as Elijah continues his banter with teh witch. Sehkola begins mentally going over the words necessary for a color spray, and gets ready to cast (although he doesn't make any gestures or words yet).

"Hecate you can't just curse someone with a deadly disease like that because they accidentally bumped into you! People died because of that and they weren't even involved" Elijah states incredulous at her lack of care.
"I can't? Oh my, I didn't know!"
She speaks in a mocking tone."Freedom to do what I want is something I prize. I enjoy abilitiy with ancient scrolls. So what if someone got hurt? Just being in that forest was enough to make them involved, and the town itself is soon going to consume itself when the plan is down. The boy was just an experiment, and the magic that brought his anrako to this world will be ready to cover the town in no less than a week. Now, why not just go to a diffrent town and enjoy the calm before the storm? It would be much easier for you... and far less lethal."
