I was so upset when I came here and found out people didn't drive big cadillac convertibles with steer horns on the hood, and don't wear 10-gallon hats. It was a big disappointment. The only thing comparable would be a Texan going to New York and not getting mugged.

Knew a guy from Lynn, Mass who came down here for a month. He totally transformed into a flashy cowboy during that time...I've never seen anything like the wardrobe that he acquired during his stay, except maybe on the floor at Billy Bob's, all at once.

Yeah, I'm from New York, and I think I've seen as much crime in Texas as I did there. But to hear my Texas friends talk, the entire state of New York is a huge city straight out of "Blade Runner," where it's always nighttime, and the evil liberal thought police won't let you pack a hog leg to protect yourself from the legions of homicidal dope-crazed psychotic teenage replicants waiting on every corner to rape, mug, and murder everyone who passes by.

Until '94, actually. Hey, here's a fun game: show a native New Yorker a picture of, say, the piney woods near Nacogdoches. Ask him what state it is, and give him a LOT of guesses. Then show a native Texan a picture of the Adirondack Mountains. Give him 49 guesses what state they're in.

So, what? Half the males in the Muslim world are related to each other now? And they are all terrorists? Rovian politics at its best.... :(
I'm confused. Where has anyone in this thread mentioned the fact thay Obama's middle name makes him, or anyone else with that name, a terrorist? Maybe I just missed it, but I don't recall that being mentioned. Oh and just for the record, as near as I can tell the term "Rovian politics" is a term used by the left to discredit an argument that they don't want to discuss and want to brush under the rug. There for rather than attempt to disprove the assertion they simply say "that's Rovian politics" and push on.

On the individual named in the topic of the thread (not technically a threadjack then, right?). There have been several accusations in the press that Palin is inciting riots and threatening violence at McCain rallies because people in the crowd are shouting death threats to Obama. If the Secret Service Agents protecting her are to be believed, these occurances may be greatly exaggerated. Here is the article, judge for yourself.

The highlights in Palin's hair have affected her brain. Here is a question: how can Sen. McCain be friends with a person (Sen. Obama) who is friends with a terrorist (Bill Ayers)? Last night at a charity dinner, McCain said that Sen. Obama was "a friend." How can he be friends with someone who he claims "pals around with a terrorists"? He was laughing with Obama, eating food with Obama, drinking with Obama, and having a good time with Obama, even though he has said this man has ties with a terrorist. Either McCain had a temporary memory loss, or he is a big, fat liar. Vote for Obama!!!

Wow, what a sexist thing to say. So much for political correctness.
Incidently, I read an article about the charity event you mentioned. My favorite part was Obama saying (something like): " Contrary to what you've heard, I wasn't born in a manger. I was sent from the planet Krypton by my father Jor-El to save the human race." Now that is funny! Always nice to see a man with enough humor to make fun of his own perceived image.

In 2nd grade in New Hampshire, we saw a documentary about the dust bowl, and that was my entire perception of Oklahoma. I expected the entire state to resemble the Sahara desert. Then I lived there, on Grand Lake O' the Cherokee, for 10+ years, and it was all golf courses and yacht clubs and forests...
Nebraska, on the other hand, I got the idea from the television was endless fields of corn. Then we drove through it. Yup. Endless fields of corn. It was trance-inducing.
Just based on geography, the New Mexico / Colorado area is my favorite place in the country for extremes, although I haven't been to Hawaii or Alaska yet.

LOL! As a son of Nebraska, I must refute this claim. Obviously, you weren't paying too much attention. We have quite a few feedlots mixed into those corn fields! How could you miss the cows?? You should have at least SMELLED them!!
As for other parts of the country, Colorado is wonderful, but Hawaii (the Big Island) is incredible...lava flows on the Kona side, lush tropical rainforests on the Hilo side.

And I'm sure sometimes Rovian is meant to refer to "in the inimitable style of Karl Rove". That the word can have a neutral or positive connotation does not discount that it is most often used to silence and dismiss others without responding meaningfully to their opinions.
