Joseph smiles at the hulk of a man. “Thank you kindly, sir. I would enjoy a seat with a view. Bouncer you say? I have been to Shanty Hill’s. You ever worked at Fusion or Lot 332? Do you know DJ Glew? I have been with S.C.A.R.E. for about a year now. Before that, I was with C.S.I.S., so I guess you could say I have been around the block. Hopefully we will not need to pull our firearms. If we do track down Mr. Kazinski, we may want to consider suiting up and calling in reinforcements.”

Well now; I worked over at Fusion now and again to fill in for my friend Bill Hicks; maybe youse knows him; goes by the handle Wild Bill, but he aint really; is a good family man an gentle as a lamb but lots o'folk find him intimadin. Now that other place; well, less said about that the better; feller who was hiring was bit light in the loafers and wanted me in some skin tight outfit an was kinda a creepy greezy sort; I left there right quick.

I also worked at Sweaty Betty's, and Wrongbar; good gigs; very popular spots an nice clientel; nice threads; worked a bit at C'est What; but I the language impediment was a bit to much me not speakin any Frenchie.

Cadillac Lounge is my kind of place to relax though the manager often has me sit in the back or against the wall so as I do not scare any of the local patrons; gets me my drink at better prices though and I like the place fine.

When Prodigy meets the others at the craft, he looks like something out of a science fiction movie. He's wearing some kind of sleek body armor that currently covers him from head to toe, although there's noting covering his face. On his back, rising up over his right shoulder, the others can see a strange, rectangular device. Underneath his left arm, Prodigy looks is carrying a box of various mechanical bits and pieces, and in his right hand he's carrying a thick board, similar in size and shape to a short snowboard, although it's quite a bit thicker.

Picking a random seat, Prodigy takes a few bits and pieces from his box of stuff, and begins to tinker, starting with pulling apart what looks to be an iPod.

I drew them. Kidding! ^_^

The Suit is the Nanosuit from a PC game called Crysis (awesome game), the hoverboard is from Anarchy Online, and the gun is a Replica model of the Terran Marine guns from Starcraft 2.

I'm a good little surfer!

Flying around Prodigy admiring the gear, then hovers (shrinking to 2" high) by his ear and whistles. She then flies over to a seat near the front and floats down (growing to 2 feet high) standing on the seat looking over at everyone else.

"So, what's the secret code word going to be guys?"

"and... did anyone grab a list of names from the boss? and any other contacts (besides DJs) in Quebec?"

"and... does anyone know if we have a safehouse in Quebec? just in case something happens and we get split up?"

Manny grins, "I'm not sure about y'all, but if I hold my hands up and say, 'Don't eat my brain!' you can probably be sure I'm not Cannibal."

Looking at Prodigy in his exo-suit, Manny's eyebrows raise.

"I'm thinking that some sort of trenchcoat might be useful to at least partially conceal that fancy rig of yours might be useful when we are out-of-doors. The authorities we work with might have to put up with us, but it might be better if that hardware isn't quite so in-your-face."

His eyes close for a moment as he thinks. "Indeed, it might be an interesting technical challenge to see if you could mask that with a hologram, or make it otherwise concealable as baggy street clothing." His eyes dropping to the plasma-blaster-looking-thing, he adds, "Same with the gun. If that hand-cannon could be miniatured into something that looked like a glock, it would be pretty darn impressive." To the young genius, it's probably patently obvious that this is emotional manipulation of the grossest kind, and Manny isn't being terribly subtle about it.

Prodigy simply grins at Manny's poor attempt at manipulation. "A challenge, hey?" He says, as he rummages around in his box of stuff. "Lets see, I could make some sort of hologram emitter that presented an image of ordinary clothes for the suit, and perhaps make the plasma gun look like a toolbox..." he says, his words trailing off as he loses himself in thought.

Prodigy begins to construct a pair of small devices as the conversations go on around him - he is seemingly oblivious to the world around.

At Marko's words, Prodigy absently pats the large man on the shoulder. "It's a good plan - funny too, which is always a plus in my book." He says, a genuine smile crossing his face.

By the time the team lands (assuming it's at least a 40 min flight), Prodigy has produced a small wristband-style device that looks almost like a digital watch. Pressing his thumb into the middle of the device, a faint shimmer occurs around him, and he is suddenly wearing clothes identical to what he had on during the briefing - sans headphones.

The second object is a disk that is affixed to the bulky gun, and the same shimmer occurs, making it now appear to be come sort of metal toolbox.

To make it work you'll need to make some skill checks. You can't take 20 on them because you're trying to put all this together in a couple of hours, and that is the sort of thing that could take a regular research team months or years to develop.

3 checks (DC 30)

2 Electronics checks and 1 knowledge Technology. If you are successful you can put it together in that span of time. Otherwise, you've begun the project, but you'll have to keep working on it later. If you fail real bad on any of them, you might be having some difficulty with it.

The flight to Quebec is uneventful. By 13:00 hrs you are flying over the town of Maniwaki and descending towards the penitentiary. The weather is cloudy and cool.

Maniwaki is a fairly isolated community located in the appalachian mountains. There is nothing terribly remarkable about the town itself, but the prison is quite remarkable.

You can't see much of it because it is built into the side of one of the mountains on the west side of town (you are approaching from the southeast). There is a huge rectangular entrance cut into the face of the ridge that is about the length of a football field, and it seems to be the entrance to the facility. A flat paved area juts out in front of the massive entrance and has landing pads for helicopters and other VTOL type air craft. Two large, concrete watch towers flank the entrance to the mountain. A single paved road snakes its way from the paved area down the mountain towards town. On its way it passes through three security checkpoints.

exterior map link

As you are landing you can see a fair amount of activity on the ground down below. 3 tram type vehicles approach the landing site to greet you. They have no roofs and you can see that they hold the welcoming party, which consists of a well dressed female, and about half a dozen prison guards, and handful of maintenance type workers.

The prison guards are all well armed and armoured. They wear form fitting military grade kevlar/plastisteel body armour and helmets. It doesn't quite compare with the stuff that prodigy has, but it looks like it could stand up to some small arms fire at least. They carry state of the art assault rifles.

By the time you have touched down and the doors have opened and stairs have been deployed, the guards are standing at attention on the tar mac awaiting you along with the woman.

Upon stepping out onto the tar mac she greets you.

"My name is Michelle Gendrone. I'm the director of Public Relations at the facility. The warden is currently busy, but will be able to meet with you later. For now you can direct your questions towards me, and I will take you where you need to go."

Michelle has a french accent, but perfect english.

Some distance away you notice a CBC news van parked on the tar mac. A camera man and a reporter are standing near the van, but two prison guards appear to be ordering them to stay put and not film anything.

Replying to Agent Marko, Manny quips, "Nyet comrade. Ve shall have to, as they say, muddle through, en Anglais." His 'Russian accent' sounds like it came from a James Bond movie.

Squinting at the CBC crew, he frowns, "I guess they can't be hiding parabolic gear and listening to us at that range. Still, it might be better to talk inside."

Directing his attention to Ms. Gendrone, but still speaking obliquely, as if still paranoid that someone is listening, "We'll try not to spend too much time in your way, ma'am, I'm Special Agent Marquez." He seems to unconsciously 'check her out,' looking first at her body then glancing at her ring-hand, but this doesn't interrupt his speech. "The first thing we'd want to see is the scene itself, followed by," he looks at a note he made during the briefing, "Alain."

male human

Ms. Gendrone has dark hair that is pulled back into a bun. She wears glasses, with stylish frames giving her a rather severe look. However, she is certainly attractive. She's about 5'8" and dresses in a conservative but fashionable business skirt and blouse and suite jacket. She has great legs, and you suspect the rest of her body is decent, but she's not flaunting it. You do like the smell of her perfume. You don't notice any ring.

"She nods. Well then follow me..."

She goes and sits beside a waiting driver in one of the trams. There are three bench seats behind her- one in front of the other. Each one can sit 2 adults comfortably or 3 tightly. Marko would take one on his own, and Pixie can fly and is very small, which leaves plenty of room for the remainder of the party.

The electric powered tram runs quietly and head into the mountain through the Sally Port. The guards follow along behind in a second tram, while the maintenance guys stay to see to the air craft.

Seeing Joseph sidle up to our host, speaking to her in her own language, Manny bows out of the conversation, letting the professional do his job.

Instead, he becomes distracted by the notion that this is one hell of a fortified facility, well-suited, one might even say *ideally* suited, to holding Wild Carders. Or other post-humans, such as, perhaps, Swarm?

He reaches out with his mind, listening for the mental communications of any members of his kind within his three-mile range, as this seems like the sort of facility where captured specimens would be held for examination. He does not yet send out an active signal of his own, he's merely passively listening for 'familiar voices.'

Joseph looks around a bit, “This is quite an impressive facility. How many does it employ?”

"It's a big facility. When you factor in all the various professions involved in operating this place- guards, maintenance, administration, medical workers, psychologists, computer technicians etc... You are looking at about 3000 staff. The entire economy of Maniwaki revolves around the prison, and about 35-40% of the population works for the prison in some capacity."

male human

The tram drives into the Sally Port that opens into the face of the mountain. Inside is a huge parking lot, filled with vehicles belonging to prison staff. You cruise through the lot to the opposite end. There you see several loading docks as well as an enormous set of steel double doors. You wonder if the same architect who designed the NORAD facility in Cheyenne Mountain was responsible for this place.

The tram stops and Ms. Gendrone gets out. You are escorted by her and the six guards to the steel doors.

“Welcome to the vault,” she says.

She swipes a passcard, which seems a bit ridiculous for such massive and secure looking doors. They take several seconds to swing open.

Just beyond the doors is a short arched hallway. The walls are smooth and feature numerous circles that are about 6” in diameter and protrude slightly from the wall.

“This hall is equipped with a suite of highly sophisticated sensors. Security is tight here."

She then starts to lead you into the hallway.

Male Human (Third-Generation Swarmling) PL 8

Noting the circular blisters on the wall, Manny points at one and asks aloud, "Cameras behind those, like at Wal-Mart, or guns?"

"Either way, you guys have the highest-security facility I've seen, even after 20 years in the FBI. I'm guessing you don't handle people who brew meth in their trailer or shoot up convenience stores..."

It's more of a small town than a city. Many small town economies are centered around a single industry, and in this case that industry is correctional/incarceration.

"Ms. Gendrone, where is the cell of the Cannibal located? Can you take us there."

male human

"Yes we can head to his cell," she says as you pass through the scanner hall.

On the other side is yet another set of security doors, though these ones are of a more standard size.

She takes you through, and she doesn't seem concerned that you are carrying sidearms. She also hasn't mentioned anything about Pixie, who is currently floating along at a very small size and would be difficult to see. However, given the level of sensory equipment you just passed through, the chances of it detecting Pixie might have been probable, so whether they noticed her and chose to ignore her or whether they didn't detect her is unclear.

The guards continue to follow along behind and you are escorted down a long sterile hallway to a bank of elevators. She uses her swipe card again and the doors to one of the elevators opens. The car is spacious and easily holds all of you and 4 of the guards. The interior of the elevator doesn't have buttons the way a normal elevator would. Instead, there is a small terminal with a tiny screen. She swipes her passcard through a slot on the side of the terminal, and quickly punches some numbers in on keypad. The elevator doors close and you feel it go into motion. A few seconds later the doors open again, and you step out into a spacious open area that is roughly circular in shape. The elevator shaft cuts down from the ceiling through the very centre of this room. Four hallways extend out from the room like points on a compass or spokes on a wheel. Each hallway is blocked by a transparent set of sliding double doors. Whether they are made of glass or not you are uncertain. However, through them you can what appears to be cellblocks, and you feel like you are at the hub of a wheel. There are a few smaller doors spaced throughout the walls of this room, but it seems unlikely that any of them would lead to additional cellblocks- perhaps they access stairwells or storerooms.

A couple more guards are standing in this room, and they watch you closely as you step out of the elevator.

You are about to proceed, when Michelle pulls what appears to be a cell phone out of a pocket. You don't recognize the model, but it must be a damn good one to get any reception down in what you presume is the middle of the mountain.

She doesn't say much other than "yes" or "uh huh". She is on the phone for about 30 seconds. Then she hangs up and turns to you.

"I just got a call from the RCMP. They were just investigating Alain LaPointe's residence. He was the guard who freed and was murdered by Gregor Kazinski. They just informed me that the body of a woman was found in his residence."

Continues: "We need to finish here ASAP and follow the freshest trail. Let's get all the information we can on this woman - i bet it was either his wife or girlfriend. We need to be able to ID her."

Continues: "We should suggest that they quarantine all the guards, or anyone for that manner, that were present at his residence. Every one there should be kept under surveillance and in constant contact."

For GM eyes:

Spoiler:
Since it appears that they are taking little notice of me I am going to draw as little attention to myself as possible. I will be flying and hovering as best I can so that guards and Gendrone do not focus on me - preferably I chose position and path so that team mates will be blocking their view. I will communicate my thoughts discreetly to other team mates as I just did with Manny. If anything I am hoping this works to my advantage should a situation arise."

She continues forward leading you through one of the sets of transparent double doors and into a cellblock. The cellblock has central hall with cells lining it. The hallway is high and a steel balcony runs along each side of the hall providing access to a second upper level of cells.

Michelle stays on the first floor. You can see that the cells in this block look pretty similar to prison cells that you would find in any jail, except that they tend to have much thicker and stronger looking bars.

Several cells are occupied, but many are empty. A man in an orange prison uniform is busy mopping the floor of the hallway. You notice many dark stains on the concrete, possibly blood. The man has strange gray skin, textured like that of an elephant's. His head looks much to large in proportion to his body, and he has an extremely wide mouth. He appears to be a joker. He says nothing, keeps his head down and goes quietly about his business. Michelle ignores him and leads you to one of the cells. It's the 6th one down on the right. Above the cell it says Cell- 3C6.

"This one is Kazinski's cell."

She then motions around the cell block.

"When LaPoint started this nastiness, he used the master cellblock maglock to open all the cells on this block simutaneously. He also left the cell block exit open, so when the COs showed up many inmates were in the hub, and the COs pretty much had a full scale riot on their hands. The prisoners in this wing are for the most part Jokers and Joker aces. The COs had to act quickly and severely to contain the situation. Several prisoners were shot, which is why there are so many empty cells on this block right now. Others were smart enough to return to their cells. As you probably know LaPointe was attacked by Cannibal and hauled into his cell, at which point cannibal bit out his throat, put on his gear and assumed his form. He then fought his way out of the cellblock in the chaos of the riot, and used one LaPoints passcard to access to the stairwell. From their he climbed up to Tier #1 and from there he somehow escaped the building. We haven't fully worked out how he did that yet."

Cell 3C6 is closed, but you can see blood stains on the floor and a chalk outline of what must have been LaPointe's body.

"We marked the cell off as a murder scene in hopes of aiding any investigation. I can open it for you if you want."

While Michelle is speaking, you hear catcalls and other nasty comments being hurled down at her from the cells of the inmates on the balcony level.

One of the guards shouts up.

"Close your mouths a#!+~!#s or I'll come up there and put you down with my taser!"

The catcalls stop for a few seconds, but then start again.

you might reread my last post. I was editing it as you were reading (I think).

"That would be great. Thanks for your help." Manny says, voice rising a bit with an apologetic look as he tries to be heard over the inmates and the guards back-and-forth. As if it was just occuring to him, he turns, "Could we get a list of the guards shift schedules? We have reason to believe that Mssr. LaPointe was not working alone."

Manny breaks eye-contact as he delivers this little bombshell, deliberately not viewing the Director's reaction and turning towards Man Mountain Marko, attempting to make eye contact with the large man. Once he does so, he looks pointedly at the Joker on janitor duty and nods his head slightly.

Once the door is open, he'll attempt to locate some DNA material on the prisoner's pillow (a hair, most likely) or near the sink or on any clothing from the previous day that has yet to be removed for laundering, although he recognizes that he won't be likely to find a comb or hairbrush in this place, given the security.

Spoiler:
Take 10 on a Search check for a 15. Once he's got DNA stuff and given it to Prodigy for his DNA-scanner project, or failed to find any, he'll then Take 10 on an Investigate check to look for other clues, for a 16.

"Agent Kronos," he says, "Perhaps you could lend a hand attempting to recreate the scene? The prisoner was aware of the impending event, I'd like to see if he left any evidence of how this information got to him, although I suspect he lived up to his nickname and ate any note that was passed to him..."

As you look around, you do manage to find a hair on the sheets of the bed. Cannibal was bald, and this hair is a short and curly.

The blood stains on the floor are dried up, and you doubt you could get a sample of it.

Michelle looks at you while you search.

"We do have LaPointe's body in our morgue. You are welcome to take a look at it. We collect DNA samples from all our prisoners, which we keep in secure storage. Is that what you are looking for?

I can get you a list of names for the COs that were on duty that night. However, we have already taken into consideration that he may not have been acting alone. We have been interrogating all the guards, using state of the art lie detector technology, so far we haven't learned anything to suggest that LaPointe was in league with anyone. In fact, it is all quite strange. LaPointe's service record has been very good. He has worked here for 8 years now, and has done very well on every performance evaluation. His psych report is also clean. We are starting to think that he may have been somehow coerced into the actions he took."

She then looks at Charme, who she seems to have taken a liking to.

"I was also going to mention to you that we have a prison psychologist who has been working extensively with Kazinski, who had a number of psychological issues. I can arrange for you to speak with him if you wish."

"Has what we have seen the normal number of guards? Is it a typical thing that prisoners and guards seek to gain status in the eyes of their peers by inciting each other with comments like we are hearing now?

When guards speak to prisoners; are they often alone rather than in pairs or teams?

I guess I dont know Jack about prisons; but I dun heard that things get all locked down and prisoners get gassed when riots happened; am I wrong? Is this cannibal guy also immune to gasses?

Can the elevator be actuated like from down here? Have you determined how the elevator got started? how far down are we anyhow?

Agent techboy companion bud; did you get a smart look at them elevator controls; do you think you could get that thing working from down here; am trying to figure how I would do this thing that this Cannible done did; either he has buku skills or a savy team and by the looks of the clientel round here they dont do mixers and keep peeps fairly separated so might be hard to get some team players among so many jokers and aces.

well, juz thinkin out loud; hope it dont distrube any youze.

<gm; did I see any scratches, dents or discoloration in the elevator?>

"Guards normally do travel in pairs. However, as a senior CO LaPointe had a high level of security clearance and authority. It is our understanding that he ordered his partner to stay out in the hub, while he went into the block alone.

Kazinski didn't escape through the elevator he managed to get out through the fire stairwell. We still have to follow certain building regulations in the prison, which means we can't have an elevator as the sole means of egress from the cellblocks. There are a lot of aspects about this building's architecture that I'm still shocked managed to get approved.

We are currently in on ward C, which is the third ward down. It is about 200m below the tier we entered from, which is a pretty good hike up the stairs, but Kazinski is pretty quick, and during the incident the COs hadn't figured out exactly what was going on, so his passcard had not been deactivated, which allowed Kazinski to swipe past all the doors he would have had to bypass.

The prisoners in this prison are split up based on the sorts of powers and abilities they have. The ones in C block have no dangerous psychic or mental type powers, but most of them have some form of physical powers. They tend to be more resistant to tear gases and such. I assure you, that some of those non-lethal measures were implemented before any of our CO's opened fire with live ammunition. Many of them were incapacitated by gases, but unfortunately a few required more extreme measures. LaPointe's armour helped protect Cannibal from the gases.

There are some more advanced types of Stun Gases we have been wanting to use at this facility, but due to human rights issues they have not been approved, which is a little odd given some of the things that have been approved, but you folks probably know how government can be. Their decisions don't always make much sense.

One of our biggest concerns was the slow response time on the part of our CO's. Kazinski shouldn't have had time to get all that armour on before the guards were on him. Though in the defence of the CO's the armour is designed, so that it can be put on surprisingly quickly, given its apparent complexity. We are still trying to determine if there was some sort of conspiracy here, though our initial investigations have suggested that given there has been no incident of this magnitude since the prison's inception, the COs were starting to become complacent in their duties. Trust me heads are going to roll for this, both at the CO level and the management level."

well; I would 'preciate walking his path from here; up the firewell and out if would could; might help us get a frame of reference on how he works. Most social deviant types have patterns of behavior that can be seen if you know how to look; kind of a sheeps and wolves attitude. Lol; guess that makes us the sheepdog.

Anyways; I would preciate it. Might spark an insight.

<casually watches the other team members who might have real detective type skills rather than his more social based ones.>

Agent Kronos closes his eyes and searches the past for any event similar to the one described by Manny.

Taking 10 on the power check.

Whatever the result, Kronos asks Ms. Gendrone if they have a file detailing the limits of the Cannibal's abilities.

Agent Kronos steps into cell and kneels down. He slips into a sort of trance like state, and one can see that he is concentrating deeply.

Spoiler for Kronos

Spoiler:
Given how recent the events were and the fact that you are right at the scene, your powers are very effective. You slip into your trance, and in your mind a picture of the events takes shape. You see that the cell is dark, and Kazniski is on his bed in his orange prison outfit, apparently asleep. Suddenly there is clicking and grating noise as the cell door unlocks and slides open. The lights go on. Kazinski's eyes shoot open and he jumps to his feet. He steps out into he hallway and looks around. Several other prisoners are doing the same thing. It seems that all the doors on the block have opened. A single guard is moving towards Kazinski. He has his helmet tucked under his arm and a submachinegun hanging casually at his side. There is a big grin across his face and his eyes seem set on Kazinski. He walks towards the Cannibal with purpose and shows no fear. As he walks he shouts to the inmates

"THIS IS YOUR CHANCE. GET THE F!+# OUT OF HERE. THE DOORS ARE OPEN."

The inmates look confused and hesitant. For a few seconds they are slow to take action. But then one of them takes the lead. A big bloated man (picture the blob from the Brotherhood of evil mutants) rushes toward the exit to the cell block, and the other inmates take his lead. LaPointe's partner suddenly steps into the doorway to the cell block to trying and hold them back. He gets off a burst with his SMG, which hits the "blob". However, it doesn't stop the massive man, and he overwhelmes LaPointe's partner, and hurls him into the hub room. You don't see exactly what happens to him after that point.

Your vision focuses more clearly on LaPointe and Kazinski. LaPointe walks up to Kazinski, still not raising his weapon. Suddenly Kazinski reels backwards, as if he were punched in the face, but you see no sign of anything that might have attacked him or caused this reaction. He staggers around for a second. At this point alarms are now going off, and tear gas is being deployed into the cell block. LaPointe also seems to stagger around a bit, and he is muttering to himself, but you can't make out what he's saying. Cannibal then grabs LaPointe and hauls him into his cell. LaPointe screams, and now his face is full of terror and Kazinski is the one smiling. Kazinski easily throws LaPointe to the ground and then proceeds to bite out his throat with his sharpened teeth. The tear gas is filtering into Kazinski's cell, but he's not being overly effected by it. He then assumes LaPointe's form, puts on the helmet and quickly strips off the armour and puts it on. He fumbles with the armour a little, but manages to get it on pretty fast. He picks up the SMG and moves back into the hall, which by now is thick with tear gas. Inmates are staggering around and the sound of bursts from automatic weapons can be heard. Cannibal flees the area, shooting his way through couple of inmates. As your vision fades, you catch a glimpse of him moving out into the hub area. There the guards are struggling to take down "the blob", who seems to be the most dangerous prisoner that has been freed.

Kronos emerges from his trance uttering the word, "Interesting."

"Ms. Gendrone, what can you tell us about Mr. LaPointe? His 201 file would be very helpful. Also, any inmate file on the Cannibal?"

"Prodigy, I need info on a telephatic wildcard with powers of possession."

Female Human (Ace) PL8 (120pp)

Pixie carefully combs the area searching for any other clues.

Search = 1D20+6 = 25

She flies over to Kronos and settles into a sitting position on his shoulder.

"Is there any more information on the body that was found at the LaPoint residence? A positive ID perhaps?"

"And... are all the investigators and any other support personnel at the residence accounted for?"

She crosses her arms waiting for the response, glances over at Manny and winks.
