Are you watching a repeat?!

Am I?

Considering that the ceremony began at 12:08pm GMT (and ended around 5pm), probably.

Well, I guess I missed it live, but it is still just as good now.

Yes, it was awesome indeed. I was just watching a repeat too :)

The moving blocks are pretty cool

I find it funny that the commentators are talking about China prmoting Harmony, and not mentioning it comes from the barrel of a gun over there.

I have shallow breath already...

The commentary on German TV was critical, but still appreciative

What I find funny is they speak like they know what they're talking about. As if they know everything about China... ugg... SHUT UP!

The technology is AMAZING!

I guess you're getting it time-shifted to viewer-friendly times.

There's dressage riding competition on now, live.

Fancy footwork on horseback. Neat stuff.

Cool. During the ceremony, they just finished the glowing, alien men. Pretty cool. They were talking about how each performer is unique. That's 15000 people!

If this was done in America, it would be Rolling Stones...thats it

Aren't they British? ;)

True, but America is obsessed with them.

Superbowl halftime, plus many others are among many Stones shows

The Exchange

But didn't we just have the Olympics in Salt lake and didn't we have

KISS

Ok, weird watching all these African/Asian nations with Scotland the Brave in the background

Liberty's Edge

I know, that was bizarre wasn't it?

Normally I find the Olympic Opening Ceremony incredibly overwrought and cheesy.

Not this time. That was breathtaking and beautiful.

I have to agree, it was pretty amazing.

67 year old olympian? Wow.

Liberty's Edge

Wow. Niger has only one Olympian. Best wishes to him.

This has been an amazing show.

What networks/channels are covering the Olympics? I'm sitting here at 9pm my time and I can't even find the word "Olympic" on a search using my DVR.

Scarab Sages

Zzzzzz....snort.....huh? wuzzat?.....hmmph.....grumble....Zzzzz

Spoiler:
Seriously though, my condolences to the U.S. Vollyeball coach who's two family members were attacked (one was killed) by some knife-wielding chinese man (who then leaped to his death).

NBC should be covering it. My NBC is broadcasting with a slight buzz and snow. Which really, really sucks. I was getting a headache while watching the woman's volleyball, but I persevered!

Yeah, I found it this morning. America swept the women's fencing competition. Now they're covering the bike race...zzzzzzzzzz.

Normally I don't pay much attention to the Olympics, but watching the #23-seeded (out of 24) Latvians beat the #1 seed USA in men's beach volleyball was great.

Latvians + Beach Volleyball = Awesome.

Liberty's Edge

Personally I'm a fan of the women's beach volleyball - now that is what I like to see in a sport!

Luckily for me the NBC affiliate got it's stuff together.
And I could watch Woman's Beach Volleyball all day long!

I despise television and thus do not have cable, but I've been watching lots of fun sports on live stream thanks to NBCOlympics.com. I love the Olympics so much. ^_^

The Exchange

I watched the women's fencing competition last night, Shadowborn, and it was great! Dang those ladies were FAST! Go USA! I generally don't play fighters, but now I'm jonesing to take the swashbuckler prestige class! With extra potions of Haste!

I heard that the Chinese are trying to prove that they are superior to the US by winning more gold medals, so they are getting really strong athletes in obscure sports that the US doesn't care about, to pick up thier gold count.

I find that pretty funny.

This is incorrect sir. It saddens me to see vicious rumors such as this being spread about the Chinese people. Can you please tell me who told you this? I have some friends who would like to speak with this person, just so that we can clear up any misunderstandings.

I'm watching the US vs China basketball game. The Chinese are looking pretty decent.

It's all over the news. If you flip on any American Sports channel, if they talk about the Olympics, this topic usually arises.

Way off topic...but Thunderbolt Kid, I just finished your funny biography on cd. AWESOME!

-back on topic-
Olympics! Olympics! Olympics! Olympics! Olympics!

Why do Americans insist on disparaging the Chinese people? What have we ever done to you?

*sniff*

We just want to be loved. Is that so wrong?

*sniff*

Lord, no. I dread this every four years...

The audacity of the media to assume that "we" care so much about the Olympics that they cover it non-stop for three weeks is mind-boggling.
