I disagree, but that's just me. Thought you did a brilliant job with Rim and the tooth, for example.

Tentative Schedule for KG's Monday Game:

  • Tonight, 12/14/09: Good to go! We're on!
  • Monday, 12/21/09: Week off. Super Solstice, Yabba-Dabba-Yuletide, Happy Hanukkah, Rockin' Ramadan, or whatever other holiday you may or may not be celebrating.
  • Monday, 12/28/09: Back on!
  • Monday, 1/4/10: Possibly no game; will confirm when work schedule coalesces.
  • Monday, 1/11/10: Resume normal weekly schedule.
  • Looks like I'm out of town on 12/28. See you guys again on 1/4 or 1/11.

Which direction are we going on Monday? Party of the first part or Party of the second part?

    Liberty's Edge

Merry Christmas, Happy Yule, Feliz Navidad, Krazy Kwanza etc, y'all :)

That'll depend on decisions made by both groups, so please bring both sets of characters on Monday.

m ygirlfriend is intersted in playing as well, but she is a novice (only a handful of sessions to her name).

    thanks :)

Join the meetup, send me the contact info, and I'll post your game.

I've been running these meetups a while, and so far no crazies... I even met up with a few members today. I'm Kakarasa on there.

Oops... I thought it took me to the end of the thread.... :p It won't let me ammend the above, so... sorry about that. Offer stands though.

So far the list of stores I'm going to visit then are:

Asgard, Fat Ogre Games (never been/no feedback yet though), Midnight Comics, Third Planet, and this new place opening in the Woodlands

I really appreciate the feedback, thank you!

Since no one has replied here, I thought I'd chime in. (See Jess, I do look at this thread occasionally.) Asgasrd is a really good store, though they focus mainly on miniature battle games and Magic tournaments. We do run a PRPG game in the back room every Sunday, and they have been stocking the Core book and Bestiary for a couple months now.

Fat Ogre, my personal favorite local store is nice. Rob, the owner is friendly and willing to order most anything for you. He keeps a copy of all the in print APs on the shelf as well as many of the modules, Chronicles, etc. The guys that work there are all helpful too. The store is currently being expanded so, more tables and shelf space are in growth stages now.

Midnight is a nice place. They have a great selection of old school and out of print stuff. The main focus of the store is used material. Pretty big comic area and many shelves/boxes with old RPGs in them.

Third Planet, I really love this store. Not for it's gaming area, which is small but impressive anyway. Another good place to look for rare/out of print books. Not for the comics/collectibles which is by far the biggest thing they have going. Nope, the best thing about Third Planet is Dave. Older fellow who is one of THE most knowledgeable Robert E. Howard fans you will find. I've much time there just talking about Conan stories or Soloman Kane or about REH himself.

I am curious about this new store you mention in the Woodlands. What and where?

Nan's used to be a great place. Now, sadly their claim to fame is that they have the BEST selection in Houston. Unfortunatley the staff is generally clueless and less than helpful and they insist on charging cover price for everything in the store. Even stuff that would be worth far less even in better shape. Good place to find minis if you have to have one ASAP, other than that it's the last place I go for just about anything.

Kirth, As I was trying to say the last time we met, I ordered a second copy of the Book of Experimental Might (the one with the Runeblade and 20 levels of spells). I could let you peruse it if you wanted to. Also, I just received the copy of Dwarves of Golarion. It has some interesting ideas in it. Let me know whether to bring them with me tonight or not.

Sure! I always love to look at new stuff.

Hey Kirth, quick question. Where can I find vambraces? I have a guy using your Pathfighter rewrite, and I want to be ready in case he asks about them.

    Ahhh! KILL IT! KILL IT!

    Oh, er....sorry. Goblins...left me a little jumpy.

On the new armor & weapons list... I'll try and email you a copy tonight -- remind me if I forget. Vambraces are another name for the 3e "dastana" -- metal bracers that act as a buckler, leave your hands free, and require an exotic shield proficiency to get any benefit from.

I'll also send you a copy of version 2.0 of the classes, with a lot of the initial bugs worked out.

(Grin) I love when random encounters turn out to be more dangerous than the dungeons. It always seems to bring a bit of verisimilitude, reminding people that the wilderness frontier is an inherently uncivilized and dangerous place.

I think we could have used a glaive wielding Cleric last night.

Kirth, I think a wizard has sent you three message spells. I seem to have heard him chanting something a few hours ago.

I received thus far two missives regarding the fabled IOUN stones. The third message will have to await my return to my domicile by means of Mercury, my trusty phantom steed. Thanks to the sender!

That was just to get you started. I'll bring the book next week. I hope everything got through okay.

Oh, no problem. I'm just kicking myself because I keep forgetting that Improved grapple has been changed to improved wrestling maneuvers, which includes trip, and I could have simply tripped all those goblin bastards instead of stabbing them.

    *sigh*

Waste of time -- you were pretty much killing a goblin per stab, when the dice fell your way!

I"m betting their cmd is a lot lower than their armor class with size penalties and no shield and armor bonuses. The extra AOOs I would get as they stood up from prone would not only have provided me with extra attacks, but a +4 to hit as their AC is -4 when they're prone. And hitting was definitely the problem there.

Also that first round, every one that I sent prone 10' away would have to use a move action to stand, and another to approach the 5' to grumpy elf dude - he would've had a good chance to get one color spray off before they took him down.

True enough... but dead is dead! Either way, Trog is pure hell on goblins.

Reach weapons and monk close up attacks and combat reflexes and sick dex scores = happy.

My awesome Jade Phoenix mage character went that route, using Tome of Battle feats and a monk's belt to up her unarmed damage. Add in Minor Shape Change and crusader maneuvers and stances, and it got pretty sick.

For some odd reason... I just got the image of Trog riding a motorcycle made of goblin bones, with a pair of living goblins coiled up underneath in place of wheels (permanently distorted into shape of course, with the arms functioning as axles)

Yeah, twisted image I know, but also badass

Yup. My goal was to make that all possible, without the need for the extra book, PrC, and magic item. So far, so good...

    Ah! Random thought alert!

Trog needs to find Feather Tokens to stick in her hair.

    :)

All of a sudden I want Trog to end up looking a lot like Kagura from Inuyasha. She was one of my favorite characters, even if she was one of the villains.

You want her to take a bath, dress nicely, suddenly gain enough nutrition to show a gender and walk upright, and to have giant red eyes?

Hey, Kirth, I think I heard that Wizard chanting again. Better look out he might be trying to charm you into something.

No, I want her to start tying her hair up, keep the feathers, and wear kimono like robes and continue to walk barefoot.

That's kind of a wind fan she's holding - and she could whip a feather out of her hair and it would be the size of a large rowboat and fly - sort of like a witch's broom. hehe. That's what made me think of feather tokens. :D

Yes, ma'am. Because of the "current economic climate," I've been chained to my desk while my friend Mike gets to go out to the sites and have all the fun. The only good news for me in that is that I don't have to skip as many game weeks!

Leaving a heads up, I'll be visiting friends in Houston on the 10th and 11th. Let me know what your schedule will allow Kirth.

I should be free the 10th. Also, as it happens, we have our weekly game on Monday the 11th from 18:30 - 22:00, if you'd care to sit in as a special guest.

Hey, TOZ, if you come into town on the 10th of January, there is a weekly Second Darkness game at Asgard Games from 1 pm to 5 pm. That is if you are (1) interested in playing with a Grouchy Old Fart (me - Retired SFC, US Army);(2) can afford to get away.

In the interest of full disclosure, Silverhair is in the Monday night game as well. ;P

    Grand Lodge

Well, Sunday will be visiting with the parents of my deceased battle buddy and possibly one of my first squad leaders from my last unit, so Second Darkness is out. However, Monday is completely open. :) My dice will be warmed up from opening Shackled City the 9th I hope.

If you'll be near the west side, shoot me an email and I'll get you directions here. Alternatively, if you're inside the loop, you might be able to catch a ride with Houstonderek and Silverhair.

That's far east -- like, not even IN Houston... Baytown's about 40 miles away from our Monday game. Assuming traffic permits, you could grab I-10 West, cut south Beltway 8 West for a bit, and be here in about 45 minutes.

    Grand Lodge

Hey, it's closer than Killeen. :P So that means I'll be caught up in the rush hour. Bleh. But I'm sure we can work it. I am worried about being able to get home alright tho. I don't imagine I'll have trouble driving back to Killeen, but it would be safer to stay the night and go back the 12th.

    TriOmegaZero wrote:

If you're tired, you might could crash on my couch, unless one of the other players can offer you better accommodations. That's assuming you don't keep up training while on leave and grab sleep in catnaps here and there.

    Grand Lodge

Heavens no. I am enjoying sleeping until noon while I can. :P

I'm sure we'll be able to handle it. Worst case scenario I pay for a cheap hotel room to crash in.
