I just got my bill for my August subscriptions... Though I can afford it, I feel bad for those that this will hurt.
it is going to cost me $91.
Paizo, can you please try to stick to one book per subscription each month?
Much more of this and I will have to rethink my subscriptions.
Anyone else getting hit harder then this?
Wonder what it is like for those overseas paying those crazy Shipping prices..
One good thing.. At least it looks like they delayed the Module for this month....
Dragnmoon |
Part of the reason was the push to get things back on schedule, which forced a few more things out of the pipe than usual. The Beta did pile on the price a little, too. Not to mention the only $50 PF product we've seen so far.
Hopefully things will be alittle more regular from now on.
Beta is not part of any Subscription..
We got
2 Pathfinder AP
2 Chronicle Books
I am sorry they got behind..
But they really need to keep it to one book per subscription..
If they get behind so be it..
But putting out 2 in a month can get a bit harsh for some.
For me it is not a problem... But for others, this could push them to cancel.

Yeah, it's quite a bit. I get charged a bit more in shipping, as well, due to living in Canada. I can afford it now, but this is pretty ridiculous. I don't even know if I'll have enough time to read everything before September comes!
I hope it ships soon, though, since I'm moving out in a month, I would hate for the package to get lost in the shuffle...

There is no need for ANYONE to cancel their subscriptions, because this is a one time deal to get the schedule back on track.
They have said that before...

Atleast this month you only pay for shipping once, unlike April and June where you may have paid for shipping twice.
Now I'm not complaining, but the point is, there's been more then one month were multiple products from the same subscription were shipped in that month, and shipped means BILLED if you subscribe.

I'm glad they're supplementing the postage to Europe! My usual 30-40 bucks is 106 this time. I'll have to slip some extra cash to my girlfriend since the credit card's in her name :)
The big plus is the huge box which will be arriving :)
Supplementing the postage to Europe?...what ya mean?

Yeah, my total is the same with shipping ($91.91). Like you, I can afford it- but I'd really rather not have everything hit at once like that. It wouldn't make me cancel my subscription, but it will definitely make my (non-gamer) wife question what exactly I bought for almost $100.

LoL...
everytime I get books in from either Paizo or Amazon.. I try to sneak them pass my wife.. (Non-Gamer).. If she see them I tell her that they did not cost me much.. ;-)
Luckily she does not see that bank account *My Spending account* If she did she would go nuts!!!!

Are being charged $91 in total, right? So how come I'm getting charged $124?
I dunno... you tell me.

Yes I am.... But.. I am Us Military... All my Shipping is priced for going to New York.. Not Germany... My shipping was only $7.99

Yeah, my total is only $33, but still...more than one book per month on a sub (without notice) was a bit of a surprise...
There was Notice... we have known for a bit now..
Check this out.. Paizo Product Schedule
We did know it was happening...
I am not complaining about if we were or not notified.. Just that we are getting more then 1 book per subscription.

Part me is just happy with all the stuff I'm getting as well as happy that I might be saving a little on shipping all of them together rather than separately. However, I think that it would be better overall if there was something to prevent or better inhibit this sudden surge of product from occurring again.

Anyone else getting hit harder then this?
I have my "Master of the Pit" held over from last month, too, so I have over $100 for books alone, not counting shipping. I don't mind the multiple books in a month thing, but regularity will be key to me being able to maintain my superscriber status, which is something I don't want to lose, as the pdf's and hardcopies are of equal value to me. Since I have to budget extensively to get anything at all, and put most of my disposable income into Paizo's pockets, but an upcoming vacation and my pay schedule falling around the 1st of the months as it is this month is tough for me. In any case, I'm making it work, but it is a slight annoyance.
Also, seeing the mass of products on the forefront, it just makes me wonder if Paizo is biting off more than they can chew with their current staff-count. As the company does better and better, the temptation to bloat the products may become unbearable, which will hurt those of us who are trying to get everything Paizo makes, both for our own enjoyment and to help Paizo.

Surely what's new this year over previous years isn't an increased amount of product in August, but rather the subscriptions. Most game companies put out as many quality products in August as they can so that they can debut them at GenCon. This has been the case for as long as I can remember.
Let's assume for the moment that this is what will continue to be best for Paizo's bottom line in years to come. What's a good solution? Maybe subscribers could have an option that when a line has two releases in a month then one will be deferred until the following month?

That would just postpone the double charge. Or result in an ongoing delay in getting the product, as one month would keep getting pushed into the next.
The biggest problem I've seen so far stemming from this double-up is that the subscribers wishing to end their sub on PF12 and not get 13 have some hoops to jump through.

Actually it wouldn't since the website currently has nothing for Chronicles in Sept, unless the site hasn't been updated (possible).
Im definitly for the vote of one product per subscription per month.

I guess I was thinking of the Chronicles more than the AP, but you're right. So given that Paizo might have a financial need to do lots of releases in August what's the solution?

Surely that can be streamlined if this continues to be an issue. I agree that this should become a relatively simple process.

This didn't hurt me but that's only because I planned for it. But I can see how it could hurt people. Personally I'm going WOO HOO! I've been eagerly anticipating Second Darkness so I'm jonesing to start reading the new AP.

Putting out so many books in August is more of an accident than by design. Getting Pathfinder back on track has been a constant struggle since Skinsaw Murders, in fact, with a treacherous game of almost there and falling behind repeating itself over and over (hence the months of double shipments and the months of no shipments).
August was, of course, compounded by the fact that we wanted to get our hardcover campaign setting out for Gen Con. And then even FURTHER complicated by the somewhat last-minute addition of the PF RPG Beta. Putting out well over a thousand pages of product in one month really did nearly kill the editorial staff.
Also... having big months separated by small months is bad for us. It's MUCH better to have a solid flow of cash coming in with each month being steady, rather than having the topsy-turvy schedule we've had the last few.
Which is all my way of saying now that we ARE caught up, I'll be damned if I'm gonna let things get behind again. Which should prevent the products from doubling up in the same month AND should keep the editors and art directors from having nervous breakdowns too. Hopefully everyone wins!

James Jacobs wrote:Putting out well over a thousand pages of product in one month really did nearly kill the editorial staff. Two words: zombie editors.
It'll save a lot of money.
Lots of typos, though. Those zombies just slam at the keyboard. I don't think they've got the constitution or intelligence to handle the hard editorial tasks that James et al. tackle every day. Now liches are another matter.

I ask since I have the email, but it doesn't mention he campaign setting, which is on pre-order...

I'm thrilled to see that my August order containing the Campaign Setting, the Map Folio, Pathfinder #12 and #13, the Second Darkness Compendium and Masters of the Pit costs only $6.21 shipping to Germany.

1) What's MASTERS OF THE PIT?
2) Why did I pay over 20$ for shipping to Germany, with one item less than you?!?!?!?!?

It seems I celebrated too early... I noticed that what the order says on the site is not correct. The total is right, but this is weird:
Subtotal (6 Items) $93.60
Shipping & Handling $6.21
Order Total $118.19
While my email hs this, which looks more correct:
Subtotal (6 Items): $93.60
Shipping & Handling: $37.54
Shipping & Handling Discount: - $12.95
--------------------------------------
Order Total: $118.19
So total shipping is $24.59 (about 15 €). Still OK for this amount of stuff. But I wonder why the order on the account page is incorrect.
By the way, Masters of the Pit is the latest Planet Stories book.

Well, that would be fairly complicated and from what I have seen I count myself lucky I get everything. I do think this is a GenCon manuever as well as a cumulation of other products coming to a head. I have expensive months with Paizo, and on some months virtually nothing. It balances out if you set aside the money (and don't touch it)
Cheers,

As it's still at the preorder phase, the Accounts page is using the last order to base the shipping cost on. I presume your last order was fairly cheap shipping wise, while this one is going to be HEAVY, which wll push it into the higher priced shipping option.

I'm also confused as to why I'm paying more for one less item then Zaister. Perhaps it's due to Zaister being a Superscriber. Anyway, these are the items I'm buying. It's just odd. I mean, I do love Paizo, and I'm happy with the products, especially thanks to the exchange rate, but it's still odd to be getting charged more for less product. Especially this month, when I'm saving up to go to GenCon UK. Any saving I can get is a help!

No idea, but my prices are identical to yours for identical products, and I'm a Superscriber, too. Must be something about being in the UK *mumble grumble*
EDIT: Looking at it, it looks like Zaister is getting the discount on shipping included, while you and I don't have that listed. It might be that that's the reason and will resolve itself by the time we get stuff shipped.
Hope to see you at GenCon UK.

The prices are the same for me with Pathfinder Advantage applied. It's only the shipping that is different. $37.54 base cost and a discount of 12.95. Don't ask me where the discount comes from and why you're not getting it.
You should compare the order on the account page and the mail.

August is almost always a bad month for RPG fans for one major reason - GenCon. The biggest gathering of tabletop RPG fans/buyers creates a big push for companies to get their books out the door then, especially new and eagerly anticipated ones. Paizo has the campaign setting, the print Beta, and the newest series of Pathfinder coming out all at once, because, well, over the years, GenCon's seemed to kind of force publishers' hands even if they would rather push products back a few months, and Paizo can't resist the GenCon sales opportunity even if they wanted to.
Stebehil |
Well, yes, including s&h it is over 100 $ in August now - that is quite a bit to chew, especially as August is a financially tight month anyway for me. If it weren´t for the current favorable exchange rate, which results in roughly 65-70 Euros for the whole package, it would be very hard on me.
