Esteban definitely spots the owl following him and eyes it suspiciously. He continues on though until, soon enough, a band of Ekujae surround him. He stands stock still and wordless while they eye him with open hostility. After a few moments of being barked at in a language Esteban clearly doesn't understand, Esteban reaches into a vest and draws out something sparkly. He offers it to the Ekujae with a friendly smile and quickly gains some new friends. They head off into the jungle together.
With the outpost destroyed Sykala listens to the whispers on the breeze, her work here is done. Esteban is now the jungles and Gozreh will decide whether he lives or dies out here. She turns and flies down the river to rejoin the others.
I considered leaving her out here in the jungle either retired or until the next adventure. Not that it matters for this adventure but are we 6th level yet? Think we may have passed it a little while ago.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Yes. Everyone should be 6th level. If any of you join me for the next PbP I run (Entombed with the Pharoahs) your characters would be 6th level and updated to PFRPG core rules.
Sykala joins the rest as they make their way down river.
Arriving in Bloodcove, the weary, mosquito-bitten, sweat-drenched travellers find themselves under scrutiny at the moment they arrive. The dwarven woman who runs the docks is staring with surprise and suspicion at Hurg and the rest of you. On the decks of two river barges you see dozens of armed men preparing the barges for departure. Something is up.

WTF was that?!?

Esteban surviving.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Are you wondering why Esteban headed off into the jungle or why the Ekujae took him with them?
Think about it from Esteban's perspective. Imagine you work for a nasty, mean corporation. They ask you to hire a bunch of tough guys to help out at a branch office. The toughs you personally select and vouch for intentionally crash the company van, give away corporate secrets to a local environmental group, and then kill everyone in the plant. You might loot the safe and disappear too.
As for the Ekujae, he's bought himself an audience. More than that is beyond the scope of this adventure.

Sykala |

Sykala offers her "protection" to the armed men headed back up the river. j/k
She does slip into the water and then transform into a water elemental (so basically she's invisible). She will swim around the barges to see what they are up to and what she can overhear.
Perception: 1d20+13=26

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Sykala hears enough to know that these men have been sent here by Aspis Consortium, the same people Esteban worked for.
The dwarven dockmaster makes her way over to your canoes. She looks you over carefully. "You'd no' need to dock your canoes. Just pull 'em up and out," she says. "I'd be 'aving enough to do today wut with this lot bein' rushed through."

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

What's with all the fuss today? Fippin asks the dwarf
The dwarf raises her eyebrows and then turns to the barges full of armed thugs. In a voice intentionally loud enough for you to hear, she calls to some, "Say, if you lot would happen to be seeing a handsome dwarf named Hurg when you get to Nightfall Station, tell him he can be bringing his bald self back to me now that reinforcements have arrived."

Yeah, but what did he have that they could possibly want?
What's with all the fuss today? Fippin asks the dwarf
Keliwyn listens to the female dwarf's answer, but before she even finishes, he shrugs and turns to Fippin, and says, "So, about that last game of Towers . . . "

That sounds like a good end to this adventure. You're pretty much back where you started from. You're at 6th level but you aren't much better off financially than you were before. Did you guys ever investigate the fetishes you gathered from the Ekujae that attacked you?

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Hurg and Carlus keep their heads down until you've all moved far from the Aspis Consortium mercenaries.
"Look," begins Carlus with a start. "That's it then. I'll be leaving before they get back. First ship that needs someone to patch her holes. I suggest you do the same."
"Right," says Hurg quickly. "Best be movin' 'fore trouble starts."
The two of them head off towards the dockside pubs where sailors are hired on to replace crew who have died en route.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

That or we level up, time has passed and we find ourselves in Osiron ready to start Entombed with Pharohs.
Who is interested in participating in Entombed with the Pharoahs? My intention is to mix in some players from another PbP too. The game would start early September.
At the very least, you all have a Fetish of Natural Armor +1 from the Ekujae you slew at Whitebridge Station.

Sykala |

I think Sykala caught up with the canoes but if she didn't manage that she does return to town and Ixius is the first person she seeks out.
Tilting her head to the side to listen to the breeze Sykala gives the group an attempted warm smile that, true to form, comes out more feral than she intends, "Wind quieter now. Gozreh say go other land." Grabbing hold of Ixius hand she pulls him towards the docks, "Find big boat. Go past Gozreh eye. Wind take where need go...."
......as the ship heaves through the turbulent waves created by the permanent storm The Eye of Abendego glimpses can be seen of a sleek powerful form leaping free and then disappearing below the foam created by the ships wake. The dolphin seems to playfully dance around the ships hull as if making fun of it's cumbersome form.....

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

The Harsh Mistress, loaded with goods both legal and contraband, willingly takes on new crew to replace those lost to violence, disease, and accident. It's bound for Taldor with a stop in Absalom. There is one other passenger, a gnome going by the name of Ronnot Twistback, whose tales of adventure amuse and entertain. He reads from his journal to whomever will listen and quietly touts the merits of membership in 'The Pathfinder Society' to you in private.

First of, thanks for running such a fun game, and letting me be part of it. As for Pharoahs, I'm seriously tempted, but may have to restrain myself from jumping on it. I finally got my own game running LoF for some friends who have been away from RPGs for a while, and as you know, I'm still in some other PbPs, too. So, keep in mind, but if you have others interested, I'll give way to them.

Ixius |

Thanks Tarren Dei and congratulations to all for completing a play-by-post adventure! It was great fun and I definitely want it to continue.
"Wind quieter now. Gozreh say go other land." Grabbing hold of Ixius hand she pulls him towards the docks, "Find big boat. Go past Gozreh eye. Wind take where need go...."
Ixius nods, already having the same idea of finding a ship sailing from Bloodcove that will take him on as a mercanary. Later in the day he talks to a man who has been travelling on a ship called the Harsh Mistress, who tells him the captain is looking for competent men.
Ixius, hating Bloodcove, jumps at the chance, especially since the man Ronnot, a Pathfinder, hinted there may be more to the trip than just a routine trading run. He hurries off to see the captain as soon as he can.
Although being on another ship sailing the Inner Sea isn't very appealing to him, the alternative of languishing in the steamy rotting hell that is Bloodcove is even worse.

Sykala |

I have been remiss. I would also like to thank you for running a very fun adventure. Sykala has been a blast and is so far my favorite out of all my PBP characters. Even I had no clue what she would do at times until the situation resolved itself. I would also like to thank all of the other players for making this story possible. You all did a fantastic job and bringing your characters to life and making this a fun ride.

Thanks, guys. I've really enjoyed the different characters. I particularly like the Conan-esque ending ... all that gold just left behind!
Play-by-post endings feel anti-climatic though. Once you have that last big fight, it should take a few minutes to finish, not days. Any suggestions on how to end a PbP?

My 2 cents. I think it was a good ending and, well, after all the work we did to get there the players deserve a bit of an opportunity to determine just how things wrap up. After all some of the most important things we did were character driven not necessarily the result of a combat, last or otherwise. I expected Esteban to bite it a number of times but that guy is a survivor and full of surprises. Very well played.

Hello All! Hope you don't mind my posting in the IC now that the game is done? I just wanted to give you all a big thanks though and say that I have really enjoyed reading this adventure from the get go. This is in fact the very first PbP I started to reading and it was my introduction to Pathfinder AP's and PbP's in general. And not-so-coincidentally, PHD is the very first DM I played with in RL after a more than two decade absence from the game which gave me so much pleasure in my youth. (And I'm also in a couple of games with Rimrock now ;-)
I have of course since played in and read many PbP's but I have continued to follow this one from the very begining to the very end and I have to say it has remained one of the very best. You are all fantastic Role Players and as we all know Tarren did a masterful job.
So once again. Thanks.
With all of that being said, you should probably find it as no surprise then when I add that if you do have any more openings in your new game Tarren it would be my honour and pleasure to play with the lot of you. If not, you can bet that I'll still be a fan and reading it.
All the best ya'll and Good Gaming.
Cheers!

Fippin |

Like the others have said- Thanks for the game. I enjoyed that adventure. I would be a cool one to play in RL. I'd be into doing Entombed with Pharoahs at some point. I'd probably keep running Fippin.
Fippin is happy to jump aboard the ship with Ix and see where the winds of fate blow him.

Hey Khaladon,
Thanks for this. Always gives me a kick to hear someone else is reading these. It never really occurs to me otherwise.
I'm thinking of starting two PbPs in the fall, 'Entombed with the Pharoahs' and 'Last Baron'. I'm giving first dibs to players from completed PbPs but I'll put you down as the first opening in either of those.
Cheers.

See ya!

Anyone else?
If you're rolling up something new, how about bringing one for the Last Baron instead? It's a 5th level adventure. I'm thinking to mix the groups up a little. Fresh faces and such.

I've started a thread for organizing the parties for the two PbPs I'm starting. Some players from my 'Foray into the Foehammers' PbP are interested in joining one of these. Some may bring new characters or update other characters. Jump in there and express your interest and character concepts.
