With a curse Rulf lunges forward. Ah'll not be sufferin you hobgobby scum to live much longer, Ah cannae handle earth maggots defiling a holy house.
Rulf approaches the edge of the magical frost and cuts down the hobgoblin.
Rulf -
The spherical eyeball monster is a aberrant magical beast known as a Gauth Beholder. Though less powerful than its other beholder kin, a gauth possesses deadly eye rays and a hunger for power. A gauth is a cowardly creature that relies on allies and slaves for protection. It is perfectly willing to sacrifice those allies to save its own life.
A'loran -
Kava -
Canas dashes forward, curses the hobgoblin and goblin, and attempts to scour out the hobgoblin's mind.
Canas' eyes light up again, as do the hobgoblins, and the hobgoblin rises up on his tip-toes as blood begins to drip from his nose. There's a squish sound and blood sprays from his eyes, nose, and mouth.
The goblin shivers and his teeth chatter as a layer of frost builds on his yellow-green skin.
The goblin raises his rod and can barely spit out the word "Unsee", but it has no apparent effect on Kava. He throws down his torch and heads through the northen arch.
The rust colored orb moves floats forward, over the statue.
The eyes at the end of two of its stalks blink and then black rays come out of them. The first strikes Kava and her shoulders slump.
The second ray hits Rulf and sends him into stumbling into the magical snowstorm.
Latro pops out from the wall to the end of the corridor and looks for the goblin he bloodied. Seeing only the flying tentacled monster, he shouts, "What in Sehanine's name is that?!" Having voiced his question, he lets fly a shuriken in the direction of the creature. He then returns to comfort of the wall, biding his time until he can strike again.
with a grunt of pain Rulf tries to resist the gauths buffeting force to little effect and as icicles form all over his armour and exposed skin he calls out S..s..someone knock that b...b..blasted abomination out of the s...s..ky so I can s..sink me axe in it.
Latro moves into the room and is easy spotted by the multi-eyed monster. Latro spins and throws a knife that cuts a deep gash in the hide of the abomination. then Latro ducks back into the hallway.
Another dagger flies out of nowhere and sticks into Kava's shoulder. This time she sees its source, a man-sized black bird, heavily cloaked, is perched (lol) on the closest ledge. The bird-man backs out of sight.
"Sorry Rulf, I'll keep the goblin distracted"
Kava takes a deep breath and draws upon her inner reserve of strength to move further into the room.
The freezing winds abruptly cease and A'loran heads towards the arch the goblin went through. Then the beholder lazily bobs out of the way as A'loran throws a glob of acid at it.
Seeing the danger to the party Rulf steps forward and calls to the heavens above, Ohh Mighty Stormlord, grant yer humble servants the divine protection they crave so we may puncture the overblown machinations of the gauth befouling this temple o yer brother deity. With that a gleaming shield of divine energy appears over Rulf and spreads out to surround the rest of the party while soothing some of lady Kava's wounds.
Latro jumps out from behind the wall and throws spinning death at the beholder. He shouts, "Die floating bag of foulness!" as he throws. After throwing, he steps back and plasters himself against the wall, hoping to gain the advantage of surprise on the next attack.
Rulf's deity does some quick intervening on Rulf's behalf.
Canas runs out towards the orb, curses it and attempts to sever it from it's life force with unnatural accuracy.
Canas moves around the corner, his body a blur and his eyes glowing. All of the gauth's five eyes glows and its flesh takes on a gray tinge.
The goblin points his rod at A'loran and says "Suffer, ignorant elf!" In response, A'loran feels hundreds of invisible neddles all over his body. Then the goblin moves deeper into the shadows.
The gauth focuses the gaze of its large central eye on Canas, with no effect.
Another black ray fires from the gauth's eye and hits Kava.
Red flames shoot from yet another eye towards Canas, burning his flesh and then the orb floats away.
Latro moves to the top of the corridor with his arm cocked and ready to throw. Unfortunately, he sees no immediate threats so he unreadies his arm. Seeing Kava and Canas to left he moves that direction. He catches movement from the left of the statue and realizes it is the gauth. He rears back and throws his shuriken, hoping it doesn't bounce off the statue.
Latro falls in behind Kava and is imeediately spotted again. He hurls a knife that catches on the wing of the statue and ricochets onto the nearby stairs.
A dagger chips the stone by Latro's feet, but there's no sign of who threw it.
"Darn goblin's got me stuck here."

Kava is overtaken with the feeling of rain washing away the pain of her injured body "My thanks Father Rulf"
Scintingating colours explode in her head as she is struck by the Gauth's blast. Kava gasps as the feeling the weight of her armour becomes almost too much to bear and she stumbles to the stairs . She sets her jaw and with a confidence she finds hard to feel she raises her head "Is that all you have?" She pulls back her left arm and hurls the battered shield towards the Gauth hovering by the pillar .
"Darn goblin's got me stuck here."

A quick prayer to the Platinum Dragon and Kava is flexing her muscles with renewed strength.
Still moving at a fraction of her normal speed, Kava begins ascending the stairs. She turns and sends her shield spinning at the beholder. It comes within inches of the creature before returning to Kava's grasp.
Kava catches her shield and her body begins moving at normal time again.
A'loran takes a defensive stance, trying to focus on dodging any more attacks.
A'loran -
A'loren lad, I hope ye'll be a'right holdin off that gobbo over there? I'm goin after that big blasted eyeball. Rulf calls as he heads toward the gauth. Gripping his beloved Axe tighter as he nears it, he casts his sternest gaze toward the Gauth while shouting In the name of Kord, Storm Lord o' the heavens I shall smite thee where ye stand, er float. Get down here and face me yer big coward
Canas rushes forward and launches a bolt of fire at the orb.
Rulf moves closer to the grand stairway and calls upon Kord's strength to reinvigorate himself.
Once there, Rulf gives a stern glare to the gauth, so stern the creature actually shudders.
As the party closes in on the gauth, Canas takes point and suddenly the gauth is enveloped in flame.
The goblin reappears in another arch near A'loran. With a screeching laugh the goblin points his rod at A'loran, shrieking "Again, again!"
The beholder fires off two eye-rays before floating towards the center of the room. The first ray hits Canas and he immediately stumbles.
The second ray sets Rulf ablaze.
Latro looks around for the thrower of the dagger which lies at his feet. He jumps back to the corner and throws a shuriken at the eyestalk beastie. He then ducks around the corner out of sight.

Latro's knife goes wide and he moves back into the hallway.
Another dagger comes from above only to bounce off of the invisible shield Rulf invoked to protect Kava. There is still no sign of the attacker.

Hearing the gasping moans of an Eladrin on their last breath Kava turns and sprints back towards A'loran. Dodging knives and blasts she runs past A'loran to act as a large living shield,
"persvek bahamut ominak waph shafaer" Kava's hand touches A'lorans chest, palm over his heart and he is engulphed in white light. "I hope this helps prove not all Dragonborn are evil" She winks at the wizard
"thanks Kava, That goblin packs a punch. Lets hope he drops soon so we can focus on the beholder."
Kava bounds back to stand defensively before A'loran. Not ungently, she presses a gauntleted claw to his wounds.
Newly energized, A'loran conjures his trademark magical daggers, and this time they cut the goblin to ribbons.
seeing the success of his penetrating gaze Rulf heads closer to the beast determined to stare it down, seemingly drawing it toward him. That's it beastie, lower, a bit lower still, I'll yet feel me axe in yer yella hide.
Rulf moves to just underneath the floating eyeball and stares up at it with no effect.
Canas slowly steps towards the gauth, then he slowly tosses a ball of flame at it.
The enforced reduction in speed seems to have helped Canas' aim. The beholder is blasted by flame, and Canas returns to normal speed.
The gauth makes a b-line for the hall, once there its central eye stares unblinkingly at Latro.
"Well this is unexpected!! Just you and me, eh beastie? What's this? Curses to you, pus bag, your terrible eye has frozen me in place! Well, have this then!!
Latro pulls a shuriken and chucks it at the gauth.
Latro's shuriken bounces off the beholder's hide harmlessly.
Rulf and Canas have their attention drawn to the nearby ledge where the black-feathered bird-man stands. It takes a second for them to realize that it threw a dagger that is causing Rulf's blood to pour on the ground. By then it has backed out of view again.
Kava keeps moving to stand by Latro's side. She awkwardly tosses her shield up and it smashes it the gauth before returning to her grasp.
