Backswing and Cleave

Skills & Feats

Hey folks. A group I'm playing with just started a Pathfinder game last night. At the end of the session we were discussing some feats, including the changes to cleave and backswing... and began to question just how they differ.

From what I can see, they do basically the same thing with these differences:
Cleave - use any melee weapon
Backswing - Two-handed weapon only (assumes includes single handed weapons wielded two-handed??)

Cleave - Used against 2 adjacent targets
Backswing - Does not state a target restriction

Does this mean that Backswing may be used against the same target as the initial hit? Is that the principle difference (other than weapon restriction) between the two feats, that otherwise function the same way?

Also, CLeave is an action to make one attack, Backswing allows you to make a full attack and get the extra attack, against anyone.

Pretty much, cleave sucks, but that's always been tru.

Cleave and Backswing aren't the same feat.

Backswing gives you an extra attack. Backswing is Rapid Shot for 2 handed weapons. Instead of taking a -2 (from Rapid Shot) for the extra attack, you only have to hit the target with your first attack.

Look at the requirements for Backswing, BAB +6. That means you actually have a BAB +6/+1. And you need to make a full attack. So when you make your first attack (presumably +6) and hit, you get another attack. So as long as your first attack hits, you technically have a BAB of +6/+6/+1. Backswing doesn't say it, but like all multiple attacks, you should be able to use the extra attack on the same target or a different one.

Cleave is a special attack. You make only one attack, if that attack hits, you get one attack against someone else.

Ah ha! Ok, thanks folks.
