Art in Pathfinder RPG

... is amazing. Let me say how glad I am that you guys have Wayne Reynolds (not sure if ever didn't have him). He's my fav.

Sorry for the ogling. It's really the small things that are going to make PRPG amazing.

Keep up the good work!

NOTE: This is not a Threadjack-

I just saw the movie Running with Scissors. Great movie, Harold, and based on a true story to boot. Anyway, I strongly recommend it.

This movie inspired parents to name their kid Harold Scissors.

Yeah I forgot to use my alias... luckily google searches for my name typically return harold and kumar go to white castle because of a certain scene with harold's scissors and kumars nether region.

Thanks for the heads up on the movie. Although, I think they got the name from somewhere else... :)

I am still busy ogling Seoni. ;)

I really gotta add my support on this one. For those of you who already know me, you know I'm not quick to give praise. That said, the Pathfinder RPG art I've seen, for the most part, is *fantastic.* The iconics are beautiful, and the scenes are wonderfully composed, and tell a story all their own. Definitely worth a thousand words. They evoke a fantastic epic fantasy feel, while at the same time inspiring a new perspective. Really amazing work by Wayne Reynolds.

The 4e art doesn't even begin to compare in quality.

And not just WAR. Most of the art is simply amazing (I can only recall a handful of pictures I wasn't so thrilled about, and that's for all of Pathfinder, Chronicles, and some GameMastery modules I looked at).

Andrew Hou, for example, has made a lot of contributions to various Pathfinder books, and his work is awesome.

Right now, all the art in the RPG Alphas is recycled (from Pathfinder Adventure Paths, Pathfinder Chronicles Supplements and GameMastery Modules), but the final book will probably have all-new art for most things (I guess the iconics will stay the same, since they're already there). That's one of the great things about the RPG. 400+ pages filled with delicious Pathinder Art.

And merely thinking about the Pathinder Monster Book (whatever it will be called), with (mostly) new pictures for all the SRD critters makes me giddy like a schoolgirl!

By contrast, I pretty much rolled my eyes every time I saw a new 4e picture, for one reason or another, let alone their curious choice of layout (is it just me, or does it seem like MOST of the PHB art seems to focus around tieflings and dragonborn, and trying to make them look "XTREME"? Not to mention the MM, which seemed to be an odd mix of different art styles, recycled art in odd places with mismatched themes(such as the Oriental swaps and the like), corrupted classics (such as the githyanki and githzerai going the way of WoW's draenei, getting prettified to look just like elves with a bit different skin tone), mediocre composition, and more of what I can only describe as "bad art pretending that it's good art"). There was some good work, but...

After looking at Pathfinder, the difference was so striking I just about died. Oh, and *finally* giants are done some real justice in the art department! Loved it.

If they can make all the monsters look that good in the MM, I will raise my hands in praise to the artistic mastery of Paizo.

And size department, too. Rune giants are what I'd call proper giants. Nothing really says GIANT as a 40 foot tall, black-skinned, rune-covered behemoth with a sword as big as himself!

I agree with you.

Great giant. I want 3. At least.

One of my SCAP players wanted to make a different character, so I told him to take a peek at the Pathfinder stuff. One of his first comments? "I really like the artwork."
