Hal strains to hear as he pauses his search for traps on the stairs. Listen check: 20

Liberty's Edge

Some of you hear splashing from within and other hear footsteps creaking from the wooded floor of the fishery. Hal detects no traps anywhere! The sun is about to apprear soon, you can easily make out the shark in the water now still swimming close by and he's a big one.
Andreas figures out that the shiny object in the water is a set of keys, they lay on the bottom of the river about 20 feet off the walkway which you stand on...........

"I have rope and a grappling hook. But I am NOT going in the water. Perhaps some of you could sink arrows in the shark to drive it away."

Male Human - Chelaxian Wizard 1

"Hold on, I would like to try something first"
Andreas mutters two cryptic words and stretches his left hand.

Spoiler:
Cast Mage Hand. I will try to fish the set of keys out of the water and deposit them on the plank floor

Liberty's Edge

Andreas concentrates and points at the shiny object, an unseen hand gently lifts the keys and carefully lays them on the walkway by his feet. The shark darts to where the keys were and splashes water at all your feet in fustration.... You all hear splashes from behind the door.....

"That is probably Lamm getting away!"

If no one else beats him to it Hal grabs the keys and puts them into whatever keyhole he can find.

Male Human - Chelaxian Wizard 1

Sorry for the delay, back to work week...
Andreas grabbed the keys with a gloved hand and passed them to Hal.
"Mayhap this makes our life easier, or at least faster about it".

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

Thelix impatiently waits for the door to be unlocked. He immediately follows the opener through brandishing his great sword.

Liberty's Edge

After trying several keys Hal finally finds one that fits. He turns it and an audable click can be heard unlocking the door.

Once the door is open roll init!

Male Human - Chelaxian Wizard 1

Initiative (1d20 2=21)
Andreas prepares to follow the sword-wielding crew through the door. He straightens his pouchs and folders in his coat, ready to bring his magic to make a difference.

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

Initiative (1d20=4)

Hal is overcome with adrenaline, shaking and fumbling with the keys when he draws his shortsword from it's sheath and bolts through the door.

Initiative: 14

Male Human (Chelaxian) Urban Ranger 3

Sorry for the longer-than-anticipated absence. We just moved and do not have internet access at home yet. Back to work now, so checking the game from there.

Initiative: 1d20 3=14

Her sword ready, Sun Fei takes a measured and balanced approach to the combat ahead.

Init (1d20 3=10)

Liberty's Edge

Hal pushes open the door, the air in this large room is somewhat chilly and stinks of the river, no doubt thanks to a huge opening in the floor that drops away to the river shore five feet below.
Several pilings emerge from the waters to support the roof above, with mossy ropes slung between them. In two places, rusty manacles hang from ropes over the water. Two five foot wide walkways cross the holes edge to the other side of the chamber, where a collection of old cabnets, lockboxes, and piles of clutter are strewn about. Chipped porcelain plates, cracked goblet, badly rusted silverware, an old wooden shield with a crossbow bolt embedded in it, the odd dinged helm, and other "treasures" litter the floor of this entire chamber. Three tables, their tops heaped with additional clutter, stand amid this mess, while just west of that a wooden door seems to provide access to a wall off section. Standing behind one of the tables is your enemy Gaedren Lamm holding a chain to one of the rusty manicles. In the manicles is a little girl hanging over the pit of water and a very large alligator looking up very hungerly. Ah just in time for meal time and I can see there is a line my pet, you will eat well this morning.... He drops the chain an inch and the little girl screams while Lamm is laughing gleefully.....the little girl seems familiar to Inros........

"Kill the gator first!"

Are there any ways of getting across the room beside the catwalks?

Liberty's Edge

The room is 30 by 45 feet. The hole in the floor is 20 by 25 feet. Straight and directly right, ahead of you have a five foot to walk around the pit. Its very narrow.
You are standing at the northeast corner of the building

So Lamm is south of us?

Male Human - Chelaxian Wizard 1

"I dislike reptiles and I dislike bullies, old scum". Andreas waves his right hand and chants a brief phrase while tossing a small stream of what look like dried rose petals, scorn and disgust in his face.

Spoiler:
Cast Sleep, focusing on alligator (and trying to keep the girl out of it, but only if possible

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

Thelix waits a moment to see what the wiley mage is up to. He finally loses control if nothing happens and charges towards his nemisis bellowing..."prepare for the wrath of the lord of Iron". "Time to pick on someone your own size".

Liberty's Edge

Init Order
Lamm
Andreas
Gator
Hal
Inros
Sun
Thelix

Lamm is in the southwest corner standing in front of a door. It looks to be a smaller room with in the room you are now in, the small room is 10 by 15.

Lamm snickers at all of you, Its good to see all of you again, come to pay your respects to your old mentor huh? Move any closer and I drop the girl! He shakes the chain at you so you understand the threat. He also kicks some rocks into the pit to rile his pet.....

Andreas make a concentration check!

Male Human - Chelaxian Wizard 1

Concentration (1d20 4=13)

Liberty's Edge

The rose petals flutter out over the pit as the thrashing gator starts to calm a bit and then stops moving altogether with its eyes closed. The little girl dangles above the gator pit calming also as the gator seems to be not a threat any more although she is still quite scared and crying still. Lamm shouts out in fustration....

Hal is up!

Hal is up!

Hal tries to hop into the hole and stab the sleeping gator to finish it with a sneak attack. Before he jumps he says:"I will need some back-up with the lizard."

Jump check: Take 10+3=13

Attack roll: 19

Damage: 7With sneak attack for sleeping target.

Already having adopted her punishing stance, Sun Fei flies into action joining Hal. Leading off with a Sapphire Nightmare strike she charges the sleeping crocodile.

concentration check, attack (with charge), damage (with stance), strike bonus damage (1d20 9=18, 1d20 5=22, 1d10 2 1d6=13, 1d6=6)

Which means if she hits AC 18 she deals 19dmg. If not, but she does hit AC 20 she deals 13dmg. Note that this does not take into account situational attack bonuses like higher ground or sleeping croc.

Sun Fei wrote:

Sun Fei:

Spoiler:
After posting I realize I probably could have made a coup-de-grace to kill the croc. Oh well, thanks for jumping in to save Hal.

Male Human - Chelaxian Wizard 1

Hal:

Spoiler:
Yep, that was my plan all along, was jumping in my chair when I saw your post this morning... Should have yelled something like "now, hamstring that damn lizard or something...

Male Human (Chelaxian) Urban Ranger 3

This lack of internet at home is killing me. would not be so bad if work was not crazy right now

Inros, stunned at seeing a girl who maybe Tara, stares blankly at the girl.

Seeing the others attack the crocodile snaps him out of his daze.

He then turns to look at Lamm with a renewed hatred, but realizes there is nothing he can do to him until the girl is safe... so he joins the attack with his bow.

attack roll using precise shot and point blank shot (if crocis 30 feet or closer). 1d20 4=5

Inros' shot is quite off the mark. Obviously the shock of the last few moments has not worn off.

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

Thelix only has eyes for his hated enemy. With a scream he charges and attacks.

Attack (1d20 4=6)

Stumbling over a loose board as he runs, and throwing off his aim.

Liberty's Edge

The rogue jumps into the pit and deal a blow to the gator but can see it is still breathing as it wakes up from the pain and begins to snap at Hal, fortunatly for him he was behind the thing. An arrow flys in at the creature but splashes into the water harmlessly. Seeing that Hal is going to be in trouble Sun jumps into the water and attacks the gator with her razor sharp blade killing it with out a thought. A roar can be heard as you see Thelix trip on a old rotted floor board as he was trying to charge around the pit to attack Lamm but he stays standing and can see the crazed look in Lamm's eyes......

Next Round

I am posting out of order, I know. But I just want to post this in cast I cannot do so later.

If Lamm drops the girl Hal will try to catch her*. Otherwise he will wait until Lamm is engaged with someone in melee away from the girl and hurl a dagger at the miserable wretch.

If he attacks:[spoiler]
Natural 20+3=23

Lack of critical confirmation:11

If he has to catch the girl:12

I figured Dex would apply to catching small children dropped by murderous scum.

Male Human - Chelaxian Wizard 1

Andreas calmly waited, his eyes fixed on Lamm alertly. His fingers were waving in anticipation.

Spoiler:
As soon a possible, I'll throw Acid Splash at Lamm, trying to distract him from the chain.

Ranged touch attack (1d20 2=3)
IIRC, I had 1 Harrow point left after using 2. If so, reroll:
Ranged touch attack (1d20 2=3)
Nevermind...

Having finished off the gator, Sun Fei congratulates Hal, "Nice work." before climbing back out of the pit to face Lamm.

Not sure if she'll have any more actions after climbing out. If so she'll move towards Lamm.

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

When Thelix's turn comes back, he attempts to make up for his earlier clumsiness:

Greatsword Attack (1d20 2=18)

Damage Ha! (2d6 1=4)

OOC: Wow. Might as well use a dagger. Did I mention how much I hate Invisible Castle

Liberty's Edge

With a glint of evil glee in his eyes, Lamm grabs the chain and releases it dropping the girl hoping the fall will distract as he grabs his hand crossbow and fires, he's so flustered by his pet being asleep that he misses almost shooting himself in the foot. An orb of some kind of magic leaves Andreas hand and misses Lamm sending him back against the wall looking at some evil looking fluid running down the wall. Hal jumps around the gator some how and catches the little girl in mid flight who is screaming even after he catches her in his arms. Sun is able to climb out of the pit after careful concentration and skill. She stands ready to help Thelix as he barrels past and slices Lamm open as he was destracted by the acid flowing on the wall.......

Next round

Sun Fei, still adopting her punishing stance, leaps into the fray Leading the Attack but misses, foiling her attempt to aid her companions.

Atk, dmg (incl. stance) (1d20 3=9, 1d10 2 1d6=14)

used Leading the Attack maneuver, but failed to hit

"So it has come down to bare steel", Andreas prepared and loaded a bolt in his crossbow, getting ready in case Lamm managed to break from the two warriors harassing him.
Ready action: as soon as/if Lamm breaks from melee, I'll release a bolt at him

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

On Thelix's turn he is strangely silent for once, Intense concentration lines his brow, as he attempts to flank his nemesis, and deliver a fatal blow.

Greatsword attack (1d20 2=5) NO! NO! The lord of Iron would not desert him in his moment of triumph!

Harrow Point spent.

Well there must be a greater plan in all this.

Greatsword Attack (1d20 2=11) 13 if flanking is achieved, and if by some miracle damage is needed.

Damage (2d6 1=6)

Hal tells the girl that she is probably safe here, away from the fighting but to yell if anything comes near her. Then he climbs up and moves to flank Lamm and drive his shortsword through him.

Take 10 on Climb for total of 15.

The moment that Hal gets out of the pit he tries to make a diving thrust at Lamm but misses wildly.
Attack roll: 4

Liberty's Edge

Lamm shoots at the nearest opponent hitting Thelix in the arm with his hand crossbow. (3 hp dam) Hal climbs up out of the pit and launches an attack but .misses wildly as he trips over the edge of the pit in his eagerness to kill Lamm. Sun makes an empress move to get around Thelix to line herself up for her own attack, she slices air though. Thelix fights though the pain and makes and swings his great sword, at the last second he has a doubt but firms up his faith and connects making a slash across Lamm's chest who screams in pain.......

Next round!

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

Thelix bloodied for the first time in his adult life, clenches his teeth at the pain, but is more determined than ever to take down the evil Lamm.

"That might have worked were I still a child, but it's going to take more than that to take me down now". Thelix clenches his teeth with resolve and prepares to launch a great overhead blow and the evil villain. At this point if he must sacrifice his life to end the menace of Lamm he is prepared to do so. He is at peace as the Lord of Iron has not abandoned him.

If Lamm is still up when Thelix's turn comes around:

Attack Greatsword (1d20 2=9)

OOC: ;). I don't think Thelix has rolled in double figures but once in combat. Only on Balance checks and stuff like that. Kinda of funny...

After Andreas makes his attack:

Spoiler:

Hal moves to flank and stab with his short sword.

Natural 20 (+2 if he can flank for 22)

Confirmation: 5 Why do I bother with these second rolls?

Damage: 4 (+6 if flanked = 10)

Shoring up her concentration, Sun Fei executes a stellar move, inflicting a solid hit on Lamm. She maintains her composure lest a smile spread across her face, even though the hit is a slight one.

atk, dmg (incl. stance) (1d20 3=23, 1d10 2 1d6=6) confirm, dmg (1d20 3=9, 1d10 2=6)

Crit chance fails. 6dmg total.

Male Human - Chelaxian Wizard 1

"Pitiful old man, your end has come, either you will be cut down or I'll burn your soul as you are still standing..." Andreas waved his hands at Lamm with an ominous hatred-filled glisten in his eyes.

Spoiler:
Intimidate Roll (1d20 3=22)
Andreas tries to Intimidate Lamm with his mad wizard act, thus distracting him in melee

Liberty's Edge

Lamm tries another attack but fumbles trying to reload his crossbow at the most important moment in his life, his last! The words coming out of the mages mouth makes him shake, he has no where to run or hide, these crittens are ruining all that he has built up over the years. a short enters his body and takes the last of his pitiful life, but before he dies another sword enters his body making sure he never rises again. A great big sword arcs down on the now lifeless body taking some sense of satisfaction in helping .......

A sense of calm fills the room overtaking the stank from the place as the group of now friends know peace......its been a long time in coming for all of them.....The girl runs into Inros's waiting arms......

You see a lot of junk that Lamm has collected over the years from his little thieves, all over the floor and on a small table. There is a small room next to where all of you are standing with the door slightly ajar. A even fouler smell comes from the room.....

"So fast...over so quickly..." Hal's voice trails off.

When the girl is looking in the other direction Hal drives his sword into Lamm's chest to make sure he is really dead.

"We should ensure that there are no other children imprisoned here before we leave."

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

Thelix still bewildered at his lack of effectiveness in the battle, notices the awful stench from the adjacent room. Determined to still prove his usefulness, he runs to the door shouldering it open...sword in hands.

Male Human - Chelaxian Wizard 1

Andreas walked slowly to Lamm's bloodied corpse. "See who is standing now", he muttered, as about to kick the fallen criminal in the ribs, but then relenting, perhaps minding his boots. Then he turned to probe Lamm's belongins, in his persona and around the rooms. "I guess the late Lamm owes us some compensation...", he called to the others.

The battle evidently finished for now, the fight and the concentration drain from Sun Fei. Looking down at the dead bleeding body of her nemesis and taking in the devastating scene underneath the fishery is enough to send her over to the croc pit to empty her lunch (hopefully Hal isn't still down there). She does not look back to the body of Lamm but goes to the little girl to make sure that she is safe now. Bending down to the girl's height, Sun Fei craddles the girl and whispers comforting promises to her.
