Look for these products to be announced somewhere around late June and early July. :-)

I can reveal that the products we planned out for the first trimester of 2009 will be unveiled on a warm, sunny day in the not-too-distant future. Say, sometime before the election.

The galactic election.

Since it's sunny right now - at least around here - and I'm already writing my inauguration speech which must be ready for my victory party later that week, I guess your announcement must come this week, or early next next week, when the elections are being held (yes, I know that it sounds weird that I celebrate before the elections are held, but I'll be busy after my election - and I will win that one, that's already sure. You didn't think we'd leave something as important as the whole universe to democracy, right? Have you seen some of the creatures out there? They'd all be allowed to vote! No, the election's just a show to get the seniors to feel important again and get a change from all the bingo tournaments.)

Joshua J. Frost wrote:

And one of those things that Mike is begging to write? Yeah, we should have thought of that idea, say, FIVE YEARS AGO. It's gonna be awesome.

Now that has me intrigued. For a second, I'll assume that you're not exaggerating with the five years, so it must be something that would have worked back then, long before pathfinder.

A comprehensive guide for vice and sin in D&D, with rules for hundreds of games, drugs and their effects, and... practices?

Chris Self wrote:

Apparently. I guess one of the books is the Oriental Adventures book he's been talking about.

I guess Mike designs the schoolgirls, and Nick the new demons (the many-hentacled variety, and no, that's no typo)

Did they postpone the elections again? Well, this is taking me too long, then. I'll just conquer the universe.

Normally I would protest and say that someone can't be a catgirl, and a schoolgirl . . . but ya know Mike, you make it work. ;)

Zootcat's got my back. :D But yeah, William, I'd make it work. :)

Oh, also, the last character I made for City of Villains is a ninja catgirl school girl. Hmm... now I think I might be over-sharing. ;D

Indeed. ;)

One of the players in my campaign decided her Book of Nine Swords (ninja-esque) character becomes a catgirl when she uses maneuvers from the one discipline that is based on wild animals or whatever. Yeah, I know, that was really badly explained. What can I say? I'm tired. :(

Well I must apologize. I have been systematically fixing your "fixed" election. We all know that the Paizo pet hampster is the next galactic president.

Should have read the earlier posts more carefully. Not sure what they could have published five years ago back in the Dungeon/Dragon days; that was pre-Golarion & Pathfinder. Maybe some sort of team-up to produce a game-manual featuring Nodwick?

Or is it Woolly Rupert, and Mike and Nick Logue are his pets?

So I can't tell you any specifics (yet!) but allow me this gamer impulse:

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! ITS GONNA BE AWESOME!

You know what, I really like how Paizo comes around and does something truly shocking for it's fan base.

I am totally entertained by you all without even spending a single cent. The Paizo drama is far better than anything on T.V. It seems from week to week there is another shocking development that grabs my attention.

What amazes me the most is how you all deliver the goods too. Shock and Awe with Quality and Unparallelism. What a mighty gaming sword Paizo keeps in their armory.

The Hoopla alone keeps me loyal 100% How could I abandon a fellowship such as this that transcends all expectations.

I must admit, Pathfinder was not a "good enough" replacement for Dungeon Magazine. The absence of Dragon Magazine just plain hurt, but I knew who had done that and I found it unforgivable. I took my credit and had a look at Pathfinder like any open minded person would.

To this day I can still say, that first Pathfinder was an intimate read that made me see the whole hobby in a different light. I could see the spirit in Pathfinder that shined so well in Dungeon & Dragon magazine. Perhaps you could say that it wasn't the same spirit I had seen before, but one that was completely unleashed from its former self. This was a self directed non-conformative creative force doing what it wished for its own satisfaction. I never saw Pathfinder as it's own campaign setting, but it is amazing how entrenched as a setting it has become. I like the settings I have, but Pathfinder is becoming all powerful over the other settings merely by it's level of support.

If I were to choose between all the settings that I have, I would have to go with Pathfinder. I would put my best foot forward for any gaming group I would DM.

If I stopped buying today, I would be completely satisfied with what I have, but in the words of Anakin Skywalker, "I want more, and I know I shouldn't".

Cheers,
Zux

Wow, Zux, thanks for the kind words. :-)

Actually... that may not necessarily be the case anymore. Part of the reason I've been hesitant to say TOO much about AP4 yet is that it's NOT nailed down. My best guess was that it would be set in Cheliax... but after bouncing a few other ideas I've had around... Cheliax might just end up, oh, maybe AP5?

Actually he prefers to be called Squik (not sure why) and I have it from a reliable source that he hides in various desk drawers learning everything he can about PRPG. When his studies are complete he plans on converting it into a new universal order much like the Jedi. However there will be no microorganisms giving his new Pathfinders powers. Instead his impressive telepathetic powers will be handed down to those he deems worthy.

Indeed, once he wins the galactic election it should only take him until 2009 to set all his plans into motion.

Hmmmm 3.5 came out about 5 years ago. Was Oriental Adventures ever reprinted with the 3.5 rules?

Dragon 318 had an article about updating the OA stuff to 3.5, pretty good article, esp since it dropped the LA from Hengeyokai.

I suspect that that only works when there isn't a hulking barbarian tribesman from the land of the Linnorm Kings breathing down your neck, fingering the edge of his axe meaningfully, or half a dozen highly suspicious dwarves looking at you, muttering something about the last ale wars.

So! Let's review.

-It's awesome.
-It encompasses all the Golarion-based product lines.
-Mike McArtor has lobbied to write two of the products.
-They should have thought of it five years ago.

So, what was Paizo doing five years ago?

Well, they were publishing Dragon and Dungeon magazine. Oh, and they published the first Adventure Path. By all accounts, it succeeded well beyond expectation, but Joshua's off-hand comment suggests that there was something that they did not do that they should have. But what?

So, until Paizo finally relents and announces some new products, let the rampant speculation and school/cat-girl jokes continue!

Yeah. We let this slide under the radar for too long. We must recommence the pressure to announce something. Or at least provide easier-to-discern hints. We guessed the SKR hiring, so if provided with the right information, Paizo can still not "officially" release anything, while still letting those of us who need to know in on the secret a little bit.

One possibility is that the Pathfinder Society will overlap with the next adventure path. Paizo has already nixed the idea of using the paths in the Society, but that doesn't mean they can't refer to each other. For example, in an upcoming adventure path the PCs have to retrieve a artifact; an artifact stolen by a faction in the most recent scenario.

Just an idea.

This isn't going to happen. It's hard enough getting an Adventure Path off the ground, and hard enough getting the Pathfinder Society off the ground. If those two processes were at all similar, it'd be possible, I suppose, to "fuse" them together, but since the processes are SO different, and follow such wildly different timelines, I can only imagine that having Pathfinder Society overlap in any significant way with an Adventure Path would be disastrous.

But who knows? The Ascension of the Drow event we're running at Gen Con WILL have something to do with the Second Darkness AP, but since by the time we get to Gen Con we'll be getting ready to ship the third adventure to the printer and will be well into the development and editing of the fourth one already... we might not be able to pull it off in quite the way we want. We'll see.
