Pathfinder Brand Teaser

I sat in the most awesome meeting yesterday where I had to constantly reign in my gamer impulse to dance and cheer at our ideas for the Pathfinder, Pathfinder Chronicles, Pathfinder Companion, and Pathfinder Modules releases for the first trimester of 2009.

So I can't tell you any specifics (yet!) but allow me this gamer impulse:

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! ITS GONNA BE AWESOME!

*cough*

That is all.

That's it? No hints? Not even a silhouette of Mike with ominous music?

Scarab Sages

Aw maann... that ain't even nice.

I mean, as far as I'm concerned, I'm really looking forward to August of this year too much already. And now you want me anticipating January 2009 too?

Paizo Employee Director of Brand Strategy

If you're gonna tease, at least really do it. This is just lazy, Mr. Frost. I expected better of you. But I will give you a second chance...

well...?

I swear Josh (and frequently) you're just like my nephews were growing up. You come on here and tease us. TEASE US! With how cool things are and then won't spill the beans.

That's not fair!

You can't yank our chains like that and then expect us not to pee in your cheerios.
I'm doing it too Josh, every morning you sit down to eat Cheerios's, I swear there's going to be pee in there. NOW SPILL THE BEANS!

(If the threat of urine in breakfast cereal doesn't get him to talk, nothing will).

Scarab Sages

Sigh.

*waits*

Josh, I'm ashamed...why did you rein in your glee? :P

*will be giddy enough for at least two people to make up for it*

Okay, that was just plain mean.

Last time someone at Paizo said something was going to be awesome, it was.

Truly, indeed cruel.

Boycotted.

What do we know?
We know that Joshua has included the word 'Brand' in the title of this thread.
We know that the period he mentions is part of the run up to Pathfinder RPG release (due Summer 2009) so will presumably be designed to build excitement for that.
We know that Lisa Stevens (who handled the roll-out for third edition in Dragon magazine, or at least I assume she had something to do with that) is involved.
We know Adventure Path #4 in the Pathfinder line is due to commence in this period, and that it is probably set in Cheliax.

Hmmm. I'm guessing that something may have been settled on with regard to Adventure Path #4 (amongst other things) and possibly co-ordination with modules or at least chronicles is being arranged to support it. Maybe Golarion prestige classes?

Is a deities book due out around about then?

Going back to the 3rd edition roll out model, I suspect Lisa may be plotting some sort of online or in print support. Have Paizo made a deal of some sort with Wolfgang at Kobold Quarterly?

We know from chats and/or thread posts from Paizo, that fiction was 'out of the question' for 2008. Is there a release of Golarion fiction (novel or comic) possibly being planned for early 2009?

Or maybe they're planning a mass t-shirt release campaign! :D

More speculation may follow in subsequent posts if I think of anything.

Edit:
If I'm getting close with any of my guesses, Mr. Frost, I'll happily sign an NDA and shut up in exchange for express shipping of products direct to my Local Games store so I don't have to wait a month for everything to arrive via a UK distributor.

Actually... that may not necessarily be the case anymore. Part of the reason I've been hesitant to say TOO much about AP4 yet is that it's NOT nailed down. My best guess was that it would be set in Cheliax... but after bouncing a few other ideas I've had around... Cheliax might just end up, oh, maybe AP5?

Spoiler:

Oh! To add fuel to the fire:

There are at least two products Josh is hinting at that I'm BEGGING to write. In fact, it's pretty embarrassing, really, just how much I'm begging. ;)

AP #4: Vengeance of Alaznist? :)

Edit:
I know, we've had our limit on Varisian AP's, but she might have escaped Thassilon during the cataclysmic end of the empire, and set up a kingdom elsewhere?

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

You know, I have a feeling that Josh won't be sharing this information until a particular date—or at least a particular range of dates.

So while you probably can't get him to reveal product info, perhaps you might be able to get him to reveal when he's planning on revealing it...

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

Oh... and even though Josh might not be willing to tell you, I'll be more than happy to tell you that one of the products is...

Spoiler:
...going to be printed in book form, just like many of our current products. In fact, *more* than one of them is.

Oh yes, that's true.

Based on sheer messageboard noise, my wild speculation would be:

  • TianXia sourcebook (TianXia, Vudra, Osirion?)
  • Pathfinder Psionics sourcebook
  • Homosexuality in Golarion gazetteer

~GRRRRRRRRR~~~ Darn you all! Darn you all to heck! I will get even for this infernal teasing! And it is not even the good kind either! ~wicked smile~

I'm going to wager a guess one of them is a novel.

Please set it in an area we can play in.. or what's the point? We get flavor, we get personality, but denied a chance to play there. A novel should draw a reader in. Many of us would love to meet the people of Sandpoint through your eyes (for example.)

And think about new readers. If a new reader picks up the books and decides to try the game, how's he going to react when he find out that cool place he read about isn't a place supported in the game product... fail.

Louge already has the first of your suggestions mapped out (or so he said in a chat) even if it wasn't greenlit to even happen yet...

I'd say a acadamaie and other schools of arcane arts,
and something else involving lots of dragons

An Acadamae sourcebook and/or adventure(path?) would be awesome!

While zooming in on things we already know about (Varisia -> Korvosa -> Acadamae) is a natural train of thought; looking further afield, about regions we know little about, particularly with Season Zero of Pathfinder Society launching this year, set around Absalom and surrounding regions, I'd suspect making this region much more accessible to players and GMs may be a priority.

Hmmm. With regard to CotCT:

Spoiler:
There is already a dragon hinted at as being a feature in the end-game in that, if I understand correctly.

Nevertheless, Drow in AP #3, Dragons (horribly popular?) in AP #4?
They promised not to do any more 'world shaking events' for a while after #3, but AP #4 featuring a drow half-dragon with a succubus consort and a legion of froghemoths, under the command of an evoker runelord invading a country to seize its paper supply, due to the machinations of an ogre mage, written by Clinton Boomer & Rob McCreary? :D

What a great job! In my work it goes more like this...

BOSS: We have to create a presentation for [fill in the blank]. Who wants it? Anyone? It's gotta be powerpoint and it must have excel tables, and some 3d models; and you have to use the secure computers, so you can't work on it at home, and it's due in one week. Anyone?

ME: [sotto voce] Ah, f$+*! [normal tone] Great, sir; I got it.

BOSS: Thanks for volunteering.

Oh, my boss and I are the only people in the room...

I can reveal that the products we planned out for the first trimester of 2009 will be unveiled on a warm, sunny day in the not-too-distant future. Say, sometime before the election.

The galactic election.

And one of those things that Mike is begging to write? Yeah, we should have thought of that idea, say, FIVE YEARS AGO. It's gonna be awesome.

Wait...we're letting you do a book on pig-tailed magical schoolgirls? An entire book this time?

Joshua,

I deleted my previous post because I didn't like the edge it had to it. It bordered on mean-spiritedness.. and I didn't like that. You didn't deserve it.

I'm not having fun with this tease though. Maybe I'm just cranky today, but it doesn't feel all that fun, seriously. That could be isolated to me, however.

I'm excited by whatever prospects you're alluding to.. it suggests that the Pathfinder Brand is really strong, and the future is really optimistic. I think that's something we all would like to celebrate.

I'm looking forward to when you can gives us an actual hint about what lies ahead in the near future.
