I'm guessing well hoping there is no spider queen how are drow structured?
One of my players is so deathly afraid of spiders she can't even bear to watch a TV show with spiders in it or look at any of the spider minis (or even minis that look spider-like), so spiders are definitely out in my game except for very rare occasions.
While I love the way the drow are typically portrayed, I'm half hoping for completely selfish reasons that drow in Pathfinder are associated with something other than spiders, or I can pretty much forget any kind of drow adventures in my game.
Edit: meant to add that the Pathfinder cover for #13 does, in fact, look awesome :D

Similar to how drow were when they were first envisioned for the game, ours worship various demon lords. Unlike other drow, though, there's not really one demon lord they worship over the others, so there won't really be ONE overriding theme. There will be SOME spider elements to some drow still, but there'll be other elements as well. You'll note this drow doesn't have spider themes at all, but more of a demonic spiky theme.

Ok thats what I was hoping but the color is so close it was hard to tell if that was part of her ears or not. I was wondering if drow was going to have some freaky sonar hearing or something going on. :)

Nice this I love and yes I also got a farscape vibe from the blue/purple drow.

Nice! Thanks for the update :)

Hopefully this blue one is just a bit of artistic license, as the whole Farscape vibe is, imho, a huge letdown.
Drow, like humans and elves and everyone else, have a range of exact skin tones. Dark blue, dark purple, and black are all possibilities, I suspect.

Just thought I'd help with the link.
Hmmm.. I like the black skin better, but I didn't think the blue was all that bad.

We've posted the actual cover to Pathfinder 13, and it will be added to the blog entry soon. (If you don't see a drow on the cover, clear your browser's image cache.)

Ah.. now see, I think the blue skin looks quite striking against the all black cover...

As something of a illustration buff it's kinda hard to get a lot of facial detail and expression from jet black skin. Tbhat's why you see a lot of blue, purple, and grey shades and red, green, purple, and blue lighting elements in drow illustration.
From my money Brom is the King of the Drow, but I also like Justin Sweet's work (from the icewind dale games) for a dirtier look. I also love WAR's drow Tempest from the Shadows of Istivin arc cover.

I prefer the blue/purple-skinned Drow look myself, I'm sick of the gray and black.

That's one of my favorites too.. another one of Wayne's creations. ;)
I'm digging this drow though. Can't wait to see more of them.
Will something drider like find their way into Pathfinder?

Yes. As in, there will be driders in Pathfinder. There'll be a fair amount about driders, in fact, in Pathfinder #16... along with some other freaks and mutants!

That's one of my absolute-favorite fantasy paintings.

I am NOT a freak or a mutant! I am a Silver Dragon! ~grins~ Now if you were talking about Heathy or KC, then I would agree with you about them being mutant freaks!

Since people remarked on the crossbow, I noticed something kind of funny and it seems to be pretty common with people drawing crossbows. Look at the drow's crossbow, then Gimble's in the bard section of the PHB and finally Jozan in the cleric section of the PHB (this is the worse example). How do you keep the bolt from falling out when you point your crossbow down? It just makes the drow seem less intimidating when she is standing there and the bolt in her bad-a$$ crossbow drops to the ground.

Sweet, wasn't sure if Wizards cornered the market on them or if the theme change to demons over spiders ruled them out. Good to hear they're continuing. :)

Wouldn't this cause friction and slow down the bolt?

Eerie drow technology makes it happen.
OR! The nock at the end of the bolt is clipped to the string. I have a bow, and pretty much all of the arrows I've ever shot have a nock that's just wide enough so that when you fit it to the string, it sits in place. This is, I assume, to keep the arrow steady before you fire, and to prevent it from sliding all around against the string too much. You can in fact hold the bow down or up or wherever and the arrow kinda hangs there as long as you don't shake it around or all that. I've more or less just assumed as a result that most bowstring/nock technology works similarly.
It certainly doesn't cause near enough friction to slow down arrows shot from a bow, though.
EDIT: I was just looking a little closer at the art, and it looks almost like the little demon face at the butt-end of the crossbow grips the string and the end of the bolt to me.
