Shall we take a break until Wednesday? Will that be enough time? I don't think anyone will mind. Things may get a bit more RP heavy soon, and I want everyone here. Actually, I am grading exams at the moment, and will not be finished that until about two weeks from now, so another longer break might help. I am a teacher in Asia, which is usually an easy job, but four times a year there are crunch times, which are exhausting marathons of paperwork, and grading. At least the weather is getting cooler. Whenever there is a break, there is always a bit of fear that it may be hard to get back into the swim of things, but so far, it seems like this group takes them in their stride. Would everybody be fine with a break of a few weeks?
About Radavel. He was going to take over Rufinus, but I have taken control of the character again. IF you want to carry on, let me know in this thread. I am curious to see your monk character too.
I hope that everything works out well for you, Patrick. I have a lot of respect for what you achieve in your life, and the bravery you exhibit. I expect the rewards are appropriate for the CR. Let us know if there is any way we can help.
One last thing I want to discuss. The items you just picked up are quite powerful, in D&D terms. I know they are not appropriate by level in an ordinary game. There are no other magic items though. Most, or all of your enemies will have no treasure on their person. These things were put here for a reason, and were meant to be found and used. This is by no means a monty-haul campaign. The powers of these weapons is that of lesser artifacts in this game. They will have to tide you over for a while. The panoply of lesser items that populate most D&D games are not available here. No rings of protection, or bracers of armour, or bags of holding. Each magic item I introduce, will have a history, and a purpose. Mythical, in other words. I just wanted to make that explicit.

I don't really need a huge break. I can find time to post breifly, just can't spend a lot of time posting is all. I am more than willing to break if anyone else needs it though :)

Thank you for the kind words Tal, it's been a rough year with my daughter's health. Not much anyone can do except send prayers/kind thoughts/positive vibrations into the aether and hope that the pneumonia subsides.

Understood. I like the concept of mythical artifacts. I promise not to try and munchkinize the experience. I am having a lot of fun playing Paper, and I certainly understand why there wouldn't be a lot of Rings of Protection lying around Constantinople!

Gentlefolk. I am really swamped at work, and I am also very burned out. I need to take a break from this PBP again. I just don't have the juices for it. I do have a planned outline and plot for this game, but It would not be up to the standards I set for my games if I try to run it in my current state. Please email me at: talhoyle@yahoo.com When I have got myself together, I can then email you all to let you know that the game can start up again.

Agh. Love that game, but no. Better not. By happenstance rather than choice, Empire is now my only non-4E game and that's so familiar I understand it and Isat. Starting fresh with a PF/3.5 pc isn't an option for me at the moment.
Looks like you're finding good replacements though - I'll be reading along.

Okay, I'm gonna call up dial-a-prayer for Patrick and Tal, just to piss them off.
shrugs I pray all the time. Just 'cause I'm not a follower of Abrahamic-style religion doesn't mean I'm not spiritual. God is a kewl dude/ette, we gots an understanding. I'm still pestering him/her/it for Reality's cheat codes, figure if I whine long enough God'll get tired of hearing it and turn them over. Either that or I'm gonna be a rat my next incarnation ...

Patrick Curtin |

Personally I've put in a bid to be a house cat in my next life. All our three do is whine for food, fall asleep in inconvenient places and demand love. I see no bad in this scenario.
Yeah, well-kept domestic animal has to be a reward incarnation. Of course, me and the wife foster shelter dogs, so I see how bad the poor little guys lives can go ..
But yeah, my two cats and three (permanent) dogs have the life of Reilly ..

Folks, there are three reasons why it is taking me a long time to post the next part of our story.
One, I am too busy for comfort.
Two, I am exhausted.
Three, I have a lot of ideas, but a strange sort of writer's block. My subconscious is busy with other things at the moment, and is not letting itself worry about Empire. I am worrying about a different set of issues to my normal ones. My firstborn is due in a few months, I am starting to spend time getting mentally ready for that ride. Basically my priorities have shifted a bit.
I think I need a bit of a break. Could we reconvene on Mayday, or workers day, May 1? I am putting my meatspace game on alternate weeks already. I just need to refocus, and get my energies in alignment with each other.
Here is something I am sharing with everybody I know:

Kruelaid |

I made it. Drinking isopropanol wasn't in an of itself deleterious, but when I puked some went up my nose.
Now I'm a guy with some allergies (some plastics and all cats) and this stuff put my sinuses over the edge sensitive-wise.
Not I can add coffee and alcohol to my allergy list, and the alcohol reaction is quite impressive indeed.
So clean living for me from now on.

Looks like my life will chill down to something manageable for a week or two, then my firstborn child will do what children do to a schedule. Sorry for my protracted absence. I am not sure when I will next be able to post and focus on the game. I would like to hang it up for a while, and either come back to it when my life is not quite so taxing, and my insomnia is not sapping my ability to imagine other worlds. I have your email addresses, and I will figure out what I intend soon.
Kruelaid, looks like you will have to settle for man quo bing sha and nai cha for a while. Lucky that you live in a country with a drink stand every fifty metres, or is that just Taiwan?

Rev Rosey |

If you're expecting recriminations, you won't be getting them from me. Even if you feel you can't pick it up again, I can honestly say that Empire has been one of the most unique games I've participated it and it is a privilege to have had the chance to game with you all. I'd love to come back to it sometime, but there is no pressure at all. Enjoy your firstborn. Those things only happen once, make the most of it.

Yah, newspaper, hotdog and soda kiosks every 50 metres. Milk teas haven't taken at those yet, still only in the tea bars. Those are every three blocks.
But one day some guy is going to figure out what a money maker it is though and open a few. Then two months later everyone kiosk in the city will have pearl milk tea - that's how it works here.

Likewise Tal. I almost completely dropped Paizo for two months there and it really took a load off me - of course now I'm posting compulsively again.

Tal, you've done great with this game. You swooped in and rescued it when it looked to end almost before it began. Take your time, this stuff is supposed to be fun, not a chore. If you ever want to reboot it, I'd be more than happy to restart it again.
