Branahm pulls out a glass vial filled with what looks like dark ale.
He whispers, "Liz, if you or Keth is interested in scouting, this potion can allow you to detect the presence of undead."
60' cone, duration concentration or up to 1 min. He'll hand it to whomever shows interest.

OK, since its been 3 days and no one but Liz mentioned doing anything...
As Liz gets to the center of the room, a great rustling can be heard from the two pits, as you watch the bones get up and start walking towards her - you count 6 human skeletons to the west, and a large animal skeleton to the East (Liz and anyone else who got a 20+ on the last check can act on the surprise round, anyone with knowledge nature or knowledge dungeoneering would know on a 10 or better that the animal skeleton is of an owlbear) The skeletons come towards the center of the room, but can't quite make it within melee reach (they get to just between the two pillars).

Initiative

Cruddy iniative roll. Arius wants to step back 5' into the passageway and to cast Command Undead on the owlbear skeleton, which should allow him to control it without a save. However, we have to avoid attacking it until he does.
Pseudo-Branahm
"Fall back to the passage! We can hold them there!"
Branahm steps back with his brother and draws his hammer, ready to attack any human skeleton that approaches.
He'll step back 5' to the entrance as Arius does and will ready an attack against any human skeleton that approaches. He will not target the owlbear even if it attacks him.
I forgot to post his initiative, but it also was 6. :-P

Cursing, Elizabeth takes a step backwards 5' step and brings a bolt of Acid to hand, hurling it at the nearest Skeleton.

AC 15
surprize round:
the skeletons amble up, liz's acid bolt hits the one closest to her in the chest, you watch as it eats away and the things ribs and puts puck marks on its spinal column. Anju's stone goes over the skeleton's shoulder, bouncing harmlessly off the wall.
see the init order on the ooc board if you're not sure where you are in the turn - Keth got a 12 liz then keth and the skeles
The 'Cap
Round 1:
Keth runs up and takes a swing at the skeleton closest to him just after Liz throws another acid splash on the one she had damaged. Liz's acid hits the same spot that her previous attack did, eating away at the skeleton's spine until it falls to the ground in two different pieces. Keth's Spear goes right into the eye socket of the skeleton, and out the back of it's head with a puff of dust. With a twist, the head pops off and the skeleton falls to the ground (max damage)
As Arius finishes reading from the scroll you see the owlbear skeleton stop abruptly, shaking slightly Anju's second stone flies through the space that Liz's target just fell from, narrowly missing the skull of the skeleton behind it.
my dice hate me today it seems... must be payback for IC hating you guys.
The skeletons shamble forward and swipe at liz and Keth. all 4 of them miss though.

Smiling to herself at the downed Skeleton before her, she takes another 5' step away from the swiping bones of the remaing Skeletons and looses another blast of Acid at the nearest one. She watches as most of it seems to fly through the ribcage, with only some scoring furrows on a few ribs in passing.
Acid Blast on Skeleton (Ranged Touch Attack). (1d20+5=14)
Damage. (1d6=1)
She draws Caress with her other hand, not sure if it will be useful against the bones, but feeling safer with it's comforting grip in her hand during battle.
The 'Cap
Liz's acid goes between the ribs of the skeleton she is aiming at, but Keth's aim is a little better, cutting through the skeleton's arm. Anju's stone and Arius' magic missiles hit it in the head at the same time, sending brittle teeth flying in all directions and it goes down. The owlbear skeleton practically lunges onto the skeleton closest to it, turning it to dust. two skeletons left you may have a fighter joining you at the end of the fight....
One skeleton swipes at Branahm hits ac 15 for 4 damagethe other misses Keth.

Branahm parries the blow with his shield.
He's at least AC 16 (at L2, he had scale + medium shield), but I think that he upgraded to chain or banded. I'll check when I get home.

Hoskuld Wulfson
You also hear rumors that the citizens who found Trina had been looking for a Shoanti boy's body, to prevent the Shoanti tribes from attacking the city... it is said that they headed toward the graveyard district. They seem to be a group who is up to getting information on the man whom attacked your queen....
Rheticus
I'll let you two interact if you want, or if Hoskuld would just head out thats fine too...

When it's Branahm's turn:
"My turn."
Branahm swings his hammer at the head of the skeleton who attacked him. He maneuvers to aid his companions' next strikes.
If Branahm can take a 5' step to allow one of his companions or the owlbear skeleton to flank a skeleton, he'll do it so that they can have the +2 to hit next round.
By the way, I checked his sheet, and third-level Branahm has AC 17 from masterwork chain and a medium shield.

Rheticus
The large man rises from his seat and strides up to the bar to speak with the bartender. You can overhear him offering the man money for information regarding the five individuals who have been assisting the city guard. The bartender shrugs unhelpfully and moves away to clean glasses. The man growls in frustration and pounds the bar with a meaty fist. Turning around he sweeps the room with a steely gaze, obviously seeking some other source of information.

Hoskuld
Rheticus fumbles to put the deck away, getting flustered and dropping a card on the ground. As he moves to pick it up, he casts a series of furtive glances at the imposing figure at the bar.
"Betrayal...betrayal that cuts a bit close to home" he mutters.
Card in hand he looks up at the giant, and amiably says: "If you're here to kill me, let's get it over with."
Hoskuld Wulfson
Rheticus
The giant of a man focuses his attention on the man fumbling with his deck of cards. This one looks nervous, he knows something perhaps... the giant muses to himself for a moment before reaching a decision. Striding over to the mans table he places both palms of his hand flat on the dirty surface and leans in. "Goda Kvoldid. good evening, I am here to kill a man, but he is not you. I am seeking 5 persons who are good at finding things. They are vorking vith the city guard and I have learned they are looking for a graveyard." The man mutters disgustedly under his breath about keeping your dead where you live. "If you are knoving anything about where this "shooahntea graveyard is being, I vill pay you for guiding me there."
Rheticus
Hoskuld
"We...we..well that's good news - that I'm not the one you want to kill I mean. Your accent is fascinating! Where are you from? Do you think you could teach me your language? I'm quite a student of languages - at least I have been in the past...."
He scratches his head and proceeds "graveyards, I know of several...Shoanti? that narrows it down I hope!

What do you mean by shooahntea? Why were you talking to the bartender? Maybe we should convince some city guardsmen to help us? I know several places where they like to eat...
as Rheticus continues, you may begin to wonder if he needs to breathe.

Rheticus
The large man frowns, deep lines creasing his worn face. He raises a hand to cut off the stream of words. "Guardsman vill not be helping us, they vill be asking many questions instead of seeking action. You however look like a man who seeks adventure and daring deeds. Come vith me, ve vill seek out this group together."
"BARKEEP!" he roars over his shoulder. "Two large tankards for myself and my new friend here. He looks like he needs something to fortify him for the night!" Pounding the young man on the back with a hamfist, the man grabs two large clay jars from the barkeep as he approaches and thrusts one into the mans hand. "Come, the time for adventure is now!" Moving to the door, he grabs a tall wooden pole with curious handles protruding from it. The upper half is covered with a black cloth. With the device in one hand and the tankard in the other, he turns to ensure that the young man is ready to lead on.
Arius Pelgane
"Creature, follow me."
Arius grins, obviously pleased with the success of his spell. "As long as none of us hurt this skeleton, it should obey my every command. We can destroy it after we finish here, but in the meantime, it will help us reach the necromancer."
"Where to next?"
Liz or Keth, if you're interested in doing some scouting, Invisibility and Detect Undead are available; Keth might be better because of his darkvision. Alternatively, we could look down the sets of stairs and just pick the one that looks the most interesting.

Flush from their success in battle, Elizabeth ignores Arius' question. She moves off, skirting the pits and heading down the stairs to her left. She carefully searches the walls around her, looking for the breeze she felt earlier.

New Group
Despite years of shipboard life and the sights and smells that comes with it, Hoskuld struggles with the smells coming from the graveyard district. The smell of rotting fish, unwashed crew members, and enclosed quarters doesn't hold a candle to the appalling scent of decaying corpses in mass graves. He wonders at a people that handle their dead in this fashion.
Resolutely, he continues to wander from place to place within Potter's Ward following his new acquaintance, Rheticus (belatedly realizing he hadn't introduced himself to his companion, he made to sure to exchange names over their jugs of drink on the way here).
Upon discovering the trapdoor leading underground, he takes the lead. Grabbing a slender rod from his backpack, he strikes it firmly on the stone, causing it to flare to life. Holding it aloft, he descends downward into the stifling darkness.

Hoskuld looks uncomfortable at Rheticus's question. He responds though, "In my homeland a mans surname is derived from a parent or ancestor. Thus a "Donaldson" is the son of someone named Donald, patronymic they are called. In my case my name is derived from... a little of both you could say." He doesn't seem inclined to elaborate at the moment, instead he focuses on listening for the scrape of dead feet on stone. Age seems to be catching up with him though, as he hears little beyond his companions rapid speech.

"If you're looking for something to kill, and you want to find these people, how's about I chuck this thing at the wall? Guaranteed results...and only a slight extra charge to my finding fee."
Rheticus pulls back his arm and prepares to launch the thunderstone against a sufficiently hard and distant surface.
