Yaja |

With her last remaining strength, Yaja gets as far out of range as possible.
Barely able to speak with the pain, she gestures to her pack
"There are potions you will need. Do not use them on me unless you have to comrades."
She's at 0hp - that non-achieveable state. No reserve points?

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Yaja is disabled. She can take a single move action or standard action. She moves at half speed. Taking a standard action deals further injury but moving does not.
Remember your action points, gang.

If you don't get hit again, you could drink a potion from your own sack next turn.

Kornelius Rowel II |

Korney shouts"How dare you pesty bandit!"as he charges with his sword:
(1d20+4=18, 1d10+3=12)
"TAKE THAT YOU PESTY BANDIT!"
I like saying that.

So she could of course, she's just being idiotic and noble.

As Kornelius dispatches the bandit pursuing Yaja, the bandit on horseback -- unhit by either monk -- charges past the two monks and knocks Kornelius out of the way. He's heading for the swamp and may get away unless anyone has an idea.
The five bandits on foot are attempting to make it towards the bridge when Lord Kerrigan storms into the clearing, his sword drawn.

Uemala Neddam |

Uema whips out his sling and a bullet, and aimes for the bandit thats heading down the path towards the swamp.Sling,Damage (1d20+2=20, 1d4=1) CRITICAL!Critical threat (1d20+2=10, 1d4=1)

Yaja |

Desperately, Yaja reaches into her pack for one of the healing potions and drinks it.
This is all wrong. I should be healing them, not putting myself into a position to need healing. What use am I if I place myself recklessly in the path of danger.
CLW 1d8+1 ?¨ [7,1] = (8)

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Lion fires hes sling in a desperate attempt to stop the escaping bandit.
[19,2] = (21)(critical)
[15,2] = (17)(confermed)
Damage:[4,1,6] = (11)This only does 5 Damage if I dont get my strength bonus
The sling would only be a critical on a natural 20 with confirmation so that is not a critical but it is 7 points of damage.
Despite the attempt of the monks to stop the horserider, he disappears into the swamp and past Larjen before you can stop him.
Lord Kerrigan attacks two of the other bandits who are on foot before the others trapped between Kerrigan on one side and the five of you on the other offer to surrender.

Lord Kerrigan |

"Thank you, Yaja. Three hostages alive AND the bandit camp destroyed. Well done indeed. Perhaps my son is right about the value of this training of 'monks' he proposes," says Kerrigan nodding to Uemala and Lion. Turning to Kornelius he says: "And you, young man, where did you get your sword training?"

Lord Kerrigan |

"I should help the wounded hostage sir, or he will not be able to walk far. I should be grateful if one of your men could accompany me. They may have valuable information. Before I do so, are you or any of your men in need of my skill?"
"My men? ... I came alone. Frankly, I've spent too many years having others do my fighting for me and have enjoyed getting a little exercise today," answers Kerrigan. "Now, I hope that after we return to the Keep, you will join me for dinner this evening. You can meet some of my men then."

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

After searching the camp Uemala walks over the bridge and picks up his staff. Then joins the others and starts walking down the path.
What does Uemala find when he searches the camp?
A search of the camp reveals boxes upon boxes of stolen goods -- hides, leather armour, riding gear, pottery, wine, dried foods, furs, shields, chains, etc. These bandits had accumulated quite a bit of wealth.
Hidden in the huts or on the bandits, you find a total of 84 gold pieces worth of coin.

"Leave that for now. I'll send some men to gather it up. I will also make sure that the Merchant's Guild rewards you for stopping the bandits."

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Hello all. Please check in at the discussion thread.
The ride back to the Keep is uneventful. When the boggards come out to collect a toll from Lord Kerrigan he glares at them and they scurry away. He may be old but he's tough and everyone knows it.
Larjen wasn't with the horses. The freed hostages said he took off on the dog 'Ogre' chasing the bandit who got away. He returns to the keep several hours later and tells you where he lost the bandit.

Yaja |

Yaja tells them that Lion of Irori is still undergoing training, but will be happy to report to Lord Kerrigan within the next day or so.
Translation: School just finished. Time is likely to become available. Interest has been expressed, but actually doing anything much about it is harder to pin down. Just wanted you to know we hadn't vanished off the planet or out of the interest zone.

Farewells are said to Lord Orlan. The four guards consult and then go their separate ways. There is a great sense of urgency and secrecy about both missions.
The guards are armed with short bows and short swords but stow their shields bearing the insignia of Kerrigan's Keep (a fortress silhouetted against an orange sky) and take out grey cloaks and plain wooden shields out of their backpacks.
"Farethewell, careful of what you might meet in the Mindspins," says one with a rough laugh.
"Be you thinking that the Caves of Chaos are much safer, lad," replies another with a laugh containing just as much false bravado.
The two guards seem content to take up the middle ranks of the marching order. They scan the forest nervously on all sides. "Mighty strange place," says one. "Hardly a tree in the Cinderlands and then here, at the foot of the Mindspins, is a forest to contain all the nasties that wish to hide from the heat."
The group headed to the Caves of Chaos travel for another hour before they reach the site designated for camping. Immediately you are not sure if you like it. It is a large clearing exposed on all sides. Remnants of several fires can be seen. "We've used it before," the man says before acknowledging "Of course, there were 30 of us then."

Ovirid Thorvirson |

Sir Manfred looks around uneasily. "You are sure then, there is no better place to camp?"
"Aye, we could be fer doin' better than sittin' in the wide open."
"Y'know, I'm fer thinkin' that I see a better place right over there..."
Wow, that was better than I hoped for. But I'll be leaving it to the DM for details.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

The camp that was suggested was at the foot of the road, within sight of the hills of the Caves of Chaos. You are expected to be at this campsite.
However, 100' in the opposite direction would put you on a small rise, hidden by the trees, and able to see what is what in most directions. You could even keep an eye on the suggested campsite in case someone comes to meet up with you.
Seeing Ovirid eye that spot, one of the guards says, "That's where Kerrigan posted the watch when we were last here. Clearing's too small there for our horses."

"Hrmph. I'm fer thinkin' yer Lord Kerrigan's got a good eye. Manfred, would you be fer comin' with me ta check that rise?"
Away from the guards, he asks, "Ah'm sure they're fer takin' care of us the best they know how, but what would you be fer thinkin' about campin' here n' hidin' our animals in the trees? As opposed to advertisin' a buffet o' 'orseflesh ta anythin' comin' by? Yer knowin' 'orses better, after all."

Ovirid Thorvirson |

"Certainly Master Ovirid. Given our numbers, we should be able to use the trees as a good campsite for all of us and the horses, at least for a little while."
The dwarf snorts. "I'm not fer bein' no one's master, young'un. If'n yer not mindin', though, I'll be fer askin' ya ta get the rest o' the team 'n 'ave 'em come 'ere to set up the camp. I'll be fer scoutin' the approaches 'n see if'n we can't make a useful perimeter."
Assuming he does so:
As the knight wheels his horse toward the rest of the group to get them, the dwarf starts looking for line-of-fire, likely approaches, and good spots for traps to make it as defensible as possible.
Tarren, not sure what rolls you will want. As always, you are welcome to roll for me if necessary to keep the story moving.
Perception checks for the searching (1d20 7=9, 1d20 7=15, 1d20 7=26)

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Sorry to be out of the loop, Tarren. But am I in this thread now?
I left it purposefully vague so that you could be. Kornelius should get in here too.
Yin, you can join in any time. Larjen Widebottom will escort you with supplies purchased whenever you catch up. Just ride on in.

Now would be a good time to bank some initiative and perception rolls. Please pre-roll 4 perception and 4 initiative scores and note any bonuses you might get, eg., stone related or sight or sense.

Spoilered in my profile, sir. I plan to do some sneaking, too, so I included some Stealth rolls.

Janrith Baelriss |

Banking some rolls:
Initiative: 1d20+2 = 5, 15, 10, 17
Perception: 1d20+2 = 14, 21, 4, 4 (add +2 for sight/sound based checks)
Janrith has groggily accompanied the dwarf out to the caves. He is a decent rider, but is counting on the training of the light warhorse to keep him mounted in most situations.

The dwarf looks at the mage and tells Manfred, "Amazin' -- I've been fer travelin' with 'alflin' folk n' I was fer thinkin' no one could sleep as much as one o' the small folk after a feast, but that one there were asleep most o' the day!" He shakes his head, "At least he should be fer bein' rested, eh?"

Janrith Baelriss |

I agree to wait for the others.
As to strategy, Janrith is more than happy to discuss how his summons will be used in battle to distract the enemy and help the warriors flank their opponents.
Anybody have any idea what the conditions in the caves are like?
Also, he will announce (with Yin absent) that being a sorcerer he has no need to prepare his spells, he is always ready.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Who does our party consist of at this point? If I understand, we count five right now -- Manfred, Janrith, Kornelius, Guard #2, and Ovirid -- is that correct? I'm picturing that we are waiting for Yin and Mr. Widebottom at this point.
Guard #1 as well. It was 'Guards #3 and #4' who went with Orlan.
Manfred, by the way, recognizes one of the guards as 'Burp' an honest but somewhat clumsy sort he encountered earlier.
