You will be missed.
Thank you for everything. <:(
I was fortunate enough to meet him at Gen Con '07. He was a warm and humorous old man with the whitest of hair and a magical chair.
From the Troll Lord Games website:
"It is almost too much to get my mind about. But I've just had news that our dear Dungeon Master has passed away. Ernie called this morning, he thought we should let the fans know. He's just sent an email out.
Gary was in his home when he gathered himself up to cross the great divide.
He was a very dear friend of mine. And I will miss him so."

I don't want to call any one "liar," but is there anyone backing up this story? I can't find anything at the Troll Lord Games web site...either the front page or the blog...only the forum posting. ENWorld is not responding (and I don't have the ip address). Just looking for a bit of corroboration before I send flowers and drink the toast.

Follow the above link from Bray Abbit. It verifies the sad news.

There are very few people who've had a bigger impact on my life than Mr. Gary Gygax - and my life is much brighter as a result of his creations.
As a kid, I spent many hours hanging around the Dungeon Hobby Shop in Lake Geneva, hoping that I might catch a glimpse of him. Fortunately, I finally had a chance to hear him speak at Gen Con many years later.
Tonight, I'll tip a glass in memory of a brilliant man. Thanks for everything.

There are a couple of Paizo threads about this...
So in an attempt to "keep it together," here is the other thread.

Wow, just wow.
Gary Gygax helped me...
-- expand my vocabulary
-- know that exercising my imagination is OK, if not wonderfully good
-- maintain my humor (remember the 1st Ed AD&D cartoons in the core books?)
-- learn about the world's myths and mysteries
-- many more things that haven't happened yet
On a lighter note, along with the folks who will claim, "Gary would have loved 4E if he had seen it" (ha!) there can also be the folks who lament, "The launch of 4E broke Gary's heart." Sorry, lack of sleep and general cynicism....
Gary Gygax, Rest In Peace.

Damn, I figured the old demigod still had a few more decades in him yet.
I'm sure he'll have a grand time drinking it up in Valhalla, tilling a field in Bytopia, running with the wolves in the Happy Hunting Grounds, meditating in Arcadia, wrestling Titans in Olympus and basking in the light of the Illuminated Heaven.
Cheers to the original Dungeon Master for all the fun he's brought to all of us.

I can attribute my group of lifelong friends and even meeting my wife to this hobby and back to Gygax. I had the privilege of meeting him years ago, and he struck me as a genuine, good-hearted person. It's a sad day here, indeed.
Same here. Every one of my awesome friendships that I've been fortunate to have has been through the game of D&D. My wife is even a D&D gamer (although I didn't meet her through a game, it certainly helped our relationship!).
Gary Gygax...many, many of us owe you...and I think your legacy is quite safe with us. It's the least we can do.

My wife and I were married two days ago. We met at a D&D-influenced live action RPG and I can't help but think where we'd be if not for that. Thank you Gary, you've touched more lives than you could ever know. For those who have come before us, for those who walk with us, and for those who have yet to come, God speed Gary.

Sir Nardi, your phrasing is perhaps the most appropriate I can steal to reflect my sentiments on the matter.
A salute to the Gawfather of Gaming, along with the other fine people who also brought the hobby into being from such humble beginnings in Geneva, WI.

Damn.
Gary,
Thank you for turning my love of myth, legend, cultures, and history into something creative instead of passive. You literally gave us the ability to create worlds.
Thank you for your game which spawned an entire industry, which spawned several more, touching the lives of millions (and then some). Without you, the world would have been a much poorer place.
May you find eternal happiness and fulfillment in the hereafter. Farewell.
