There's nothing wrong with being nice to the ladies! ;)

And it's called being gentlemanly, not being flirtatious =)

Turning to Magatha and just missing the eyes rolling.

"All the more reason to visit the local Sheriff's Station my dear. Learning the laws of a place is always a good way to learn alot about that place."

He thinks to himself while he waits for a response from the barmaid, then adds "Plus it will help me to keep all of you out of jail by avoiding anything which could in any way be misconstrued as against the law."
Again here he glances briefly at Jebb.

"It will also be a good thing in the long run if we are on good terms with the Local Sheriff's Office."

He turns back to the barmaid and flashes a welcoming smile to put her at ease as he waits for her response.

The half orc wench looks at you kind of funny at the silly question thinking you are in the city but not sure what its called is kinda weird to her but she answers.... You are in the City of Splendors, Waterdeep!

Female Human Fighter

"Waterdeep... I've never heard of this city, so we certainly aren't in Varisia anymore. Do you think we might have been sent to Magnimar?"

Magatha seems excited to think we may be near to the city which is the original home to her martial discipline.

With a gentle hand on Magatha's shoulder Brenon tries to calm her.

"Lets not be concerned of such things till next morn, after we have eaten and slept."

"Thank you my dear, it must seem a strange question indeed, but my friends and I are not from around these parts and have journeyed far in search of a place to rest."

Artemis pulls a Gold Piece from out of his belt pouch, careful to keep the motion hidden from prying eyes. He hold the coin out to the girl and says "When you return with our food, this will be yours if you would sit with us for a moment and recount some of the lore and tales of this Splendid City, so that we could be better armed with information? He flashes her another smile and pockets the Coin.

Does this place have rooms?

As you all sit there waiting for the food you notice that the tavern is getting busier and busier with lots of sailors and mercenary types, its gone from a soft roar to a very loud happening place. Your food arrives on huge platters and the smell almost knocks you off your feet, the hunger in your belly immediately begins to rumble wanting whats on thoses platter in a bad way. Placed in front of you is a whole roasted Goose with baby root vegetables, Eggs and Sausage, Rabbit Stew and Breads and cheeses. The half orc wench smiles and begins to walk away.....

Artemis- Roll a diplomacy check to see if she stays or not!

This is a only a tavern, no rooms here, you'll need to find an inn!

Artemis slips the Gold Piece to the Serving Maid and picks up his mug of Ale. "First a toast to your fair City of Waterdeep, our current home away from home." He lifts his mug and takes a long pull.

Putting the mug back down and spearing a sausage with a fork, Artemis turns back to the Barmaid and asks...
"Number 1. You have already told us the name of the City, but we are from lands far away and would like to know a little about the surrounding towns and cities.
Number 2. Tell us a little about your City. It's rulers, Law Enforcement Agencies and daily goings on.
Number 3. Tell us a little more about this area, and in particular where might we find an Inn close by where we could get a room and one would hope a warm bath for dear Magatha here."
He indicates Magatha with a wave of half a sausage on a fork.
"And Number 4. What pray tell is your name my dear for I have forgotten my manners and did not ask? Please if you would, start with Number 4 and wherever your story takes us from there we would be most appreciative to hear." He once again flashes her his wide grin and, finishing his sausage he sets about spearing another, narrowly beating Jinx to the last one on the plate.

Not that it matters much, but what does the Seving Wench look like (other than a half-orc)? Ugly, Attactive, Average... just a light description. Trying to cultivate contacts and acquaintances in the city might be a good idea.

so the only thing accomplished by visiting a library for info is getting info while maintaining a low profile... if we were gonna do that then why interrogate every person we meet on the way?

No, I am only asking a barmaid her impressions on the town and surrounding areas. What we can learn from a Library and what we can learn from the man on the street are two entirely different things, especially when that man on the street works in a tavern. We are still going to the Library, but now we have a secondary source of information to match up with. Artemis may only have average Intelligence, but he is still an Officer of the Law. =)

The half orc wench smiles at the onslot of questions and takes a moment to think on what was asked of her. Me name is Dalla, I live in the big city of Waterdeep, I's brings food and drink to the paying people and if the want a little tumble it costs more coins. Pretty lady could use a good bath by the looks of her. She could get one at The Rearing Hippocampus Inn or The Blackstar Inn. Both of those inns ares ins the Docks area. The Blackstar is good because it has good walls, I's makes alot of noise during a tumble and nobody cans hears me hehe! As she finishes, the huge barkeep comes over with a look of anger on his face... Get to work wench, we got alot of thirsty sailors here to serve, so get off that big old ugly arse of yours and deliver drinks NOW! He walks off in a huff. Della gets up and says.. Sorry gots to work now, good lucks with the lady there, hehe.... and she heads off to work.....

The half orc wench is an ugly thing, most likely gets all her action from very very drunk sailors. She follows simple orders easily but that's it. Of note thou is she smells nice for an half orc.

Female Human Fighter

Thanking Dalla with a smile, Magatha eats a modest meal then stands.
"If I am needed, I will be at the Blackstar Inn in a short while, but first I am going to check out the local marketplace." First going over to the serving girl and murmuring her thanks, she then makes her way out the door.

Zoomackula:

Spoiler:

When I go over to Dalla, I mention to her that 'Mr Goldfingers' (Artemis) is actually VERY good at 'tumbling' and suggest that if she's game, she should surprise him in his room over at the Blackstar tonight.(If he's going to flirt with anything in a skirt, Magatha is going to do all she can to teach him a lesson)

When I head over to the marketplace, I am going to purchase some soap, some local clothing and some earplugs (just in case those walls aren't quite thick enough to drown out screams). I will also see if I can pick up some local gossip. Gather Information: (1d20-1=6)

Male Human Favoured Soul 1

Brenon finishing his meal and looking over the devastated carcass of the half eaten boar decides its time to walk of his meal.

"I think i might go pay a visit to the The Rearing Hippocampus Inn and The Blackstar Inn. See what sort of lodging they have and any stray bits of info on this place, you guys should be able to find me at one of the inns when you are done."

Brenon has a quick word with Dalla on his way out.

Thinking dalla to be ever so slightly to stupid to have any reason to not trust a worshiper of Olidammara brenon decides she is best to ask about any temples... he does so with a gold piece in his hand

"Dalla, would you know of any temples around here? I'm looking for followers of Olidammara?"

Magatha leaves the group sitting at the table to finish eatting their supper....

Magatha:

Spoiler:
Della says her thanks, takes the coin and gives you quick directions to the market place. The streets are crowded and you get bumped and jostled most of the way but you have no problem finding the market. Its probably the largest one you have seen in your life. The market is still in full swing even this late in the day. After awhile of searching you find all the goods you wanted at very reasonable rates. The last vendor you where at questioned you coins having never seen their type before but decided gold is gold and took the money anyway. As you take a seat to rest for a moment to watch the crowd and see what information you might find, you are approuched by a very handsome gentleman, dressed in what must be the latest style in this city. He is wearing a thin looking sword that rests on his hip like its part of his body. He stops in front of you with a warm smile and greets you... Well met fair maiden, may I be of some assisstance too you. You look as though you are lost.......

Della comes by again with another round of drinks for the three remaining party members at the table. She bends down and whispers into Artemis's ear...

I am flattered by your offer though and would still be honoured to walk you home after your shift so that you can show me the way to the local Sheriff's Station."

He flashes another smile at Della after he finishes whispering to her, although to those that know him the smile looks a little forced and Artemis still looks a little uneasy.

Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)

Orelan sits back and stretches his legs under the table.

"Ah, Dalla. Sorry to interrupt. Could you bring me some more bread, some cheese - goat's cheese if you have it, and whatever red you have to hand. Many thanks."

We should probably head down there after we finish our lunch and see if we can get rooms or we may have to look at The..." As Carnesîr turns about, his hooded charcoal colored cloak whips about him and with a raised dark colored brow he looks up from the sailor to the barkeep and then back to the sailor once the barkeep has gone back inside. As the dust from the sailor’s impact settles around Carnesîr dark grey boots, he watches for a brief moment as the sailor tries to right himself of the dejected situation.

As he begins to reach down to offer a dark grey gloved hand, the sailor unsteadily looks up and manages to put together a few broken words, which once uttered, strikes the squatting young Carnesîr as quite funny. Seeing as the comment comes from a man in such as precarious circumstance, it nearly causes him to fall over himself. An awkward scene to any onlookers as the pale skin Carnesîr with dark hair and matching colored eyes (the staple and unmistakable description of a Chelaxian, though dressed in a few different shades of grey, hence his adopted nickname), looks very much like a youthful lad perhaps mocking and having a bit of fun at the sailors expense.

”five cities, you don’t say.., and here I’m looking for perhaps a way to finding my way back to just one.” He say with a chuckle in his voice. ”names Gray Spider, but folks just call me Spider. So what's the names of these cities your talking about and who’s this friend of yours you mentioned?” he asks as he reaches to grab a hold of the sailors arm to assist him up while hoping that he might be able to gather and put together something useful from anything the sailor might say, which he’s sure will likely be incoherent information.

Carnesir after leaving the tavern…

As Carnesîr turns about, his hooded charcoal colored cloak whips about him and with a raised dark colored brow he looks up from the sailor to the barkeep and then back to the sailor once the barkeep has gone back inside.
