Unclear target of Shayliss affection (mini-spoiler)

Rise of the Runelords

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm about to "introduce" Shayliss Vinder to my party but there's a bit of a snag regarding the choice of target for her scheme: the party is made up of three female characters (1/2 orc, Shoanti and Varisan) and one male Dwarf. The Dwarf is somewhat charismatic and well-kept (Cleric of Irori) so that's the way I'm expecting to go.

The Varisan female will probably be to Foxglove's taste (for so many reasons) and I don't want the same player to hog the spotlight but the other 2 females are both rough unfriendly barbarians and one has a history with the Vinder family. This makes the girl+girl option, no matter how "compelling", a bit of a long stretch. I could skip the whole thing but it seems like such a waste of role playing.

Any thoughts?

I just found « The Repercussions of Shayliss » thread. I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s going the « I like that stocky short fellow » way.

Funny stuff.

In my games Shayliss made her move against dwarven character. My players were a bit confused at first, but then they thought that maybe just anything goes for that girl.

Spoiler:
I also changed the murder victim in skinsaw murders from Katherine(?) to Shayliss. The dwarf was actually little bummed about that =)

My first Shayliss "victim" was a halfling. Hehe.

In my game, the party has a pair of Drow. Twins.

How could Shayless resist?

Dad beat one of them to a pulp (twice!), but he keeps coming back for more.

That's roleplaying!

Shayliss went after the gnome in our party.
And I'm actually thinking having her follow the party around as an NPC after her sister's murder and her father's incarceration.

Shayless could absolutely hit on a female PC—no gender is safe from her!

Wow. Reading these posts really shows that she's one open-minded girl...

*In my best Dan Aykroyd impression:* "Shayliss, you ignorant slut."

Every town needs at least one. :P

Have a little compassion for the poor thing! Pairing up with an adventurer is probably that girl's best chance to get away from that one horse town...

Despite her limited experience of the lands beyond Sandpoint, Shayless has dreams! Someday she wants to see the world: She dreams of becoming an exotic, pampered courtesan in far-off Cheliax.

Unfortunately, her father terrifies any local boys that seem interested in her. Is it any surprise that she goes after the first male that she's met in months that wasn't intimidated by her father? The fact that dad will blow a gasket when he finds out is a plus for her...

The town's ignorant slut and the cleric of Irori (knowledge+self discipline): Sounds' like a match made in heaven !

Maybe what she needs is a Brawny Barbarian Girlfriend, hummm ... ?

In my game #3, it was a no-brainer, and went pretty much as expected - she went for the male, harismatic, human cleric of Calistria...

He cast sanctuary no himself as he fled the basement, but left a holy symbol on the table before he left...

Not sure what affect that one'll have yet ;-)

One of my players did almost the exact same thing; ran in terror from the basement but at the same time dropped some elven necklace he was wearing. Then he proceed to run sometimes when she came and sometimes would kinda flirt with her. Ended up marrying her which has been a source of endless fun for the other players who have been doing nothing but making jokes about the married and slightly domesticated by Shayless. My favorite joke was the suggestion that the player who is an elf could have laundry hung off his ears to dry :D

Shayliss was charming our Indiana Jones-esque PC. For a while it was actually looking good, but unfortunately she fell victim to the skinsaw man not long after her sister.

Shayliss went for the Half-Elf Bard in my first group. It really was a no-brainer for me thankfully. The second group I'm planning on running through could be a little bit more complicated. Not entirely sure what the party make-up will be, but I'm not seeing any likely targets.

In my first group, the party cleric ended up arranging a marriage to soothe the father's feelings. The bard briefly tried to get out of it, but couldn't find anyone willing to help sabotage the impending marriage (thanks to none of Shayliss' former suitors being willing to risk getting beaten up by being discovered). He went through with the marriage. He's planning on taking Shayliss on a proper honeymoon after they're done with Thistletop. Not sure just how much I'm going to twist this particular knife just yet.

I like the following around idea, I may also use it to have Alden Foxglove hire a couple of Minstrels to praise his paramour full time while he goes back to his buisness in Magnimar, reinforcing the obsessed (yet wealthy) fan attitude.
