I truly appreciate all of the well-wishing.

Thank you

I wish we had some ice for me to bust my hiney on. It has been in the mid 60's to 70's most of the past week here in NC.

I do send me heartfelt get well wishes to your mother though. May she have a speedy recovery.

Yep. I miss snow. Even Ice. (Sometimes)

We don't get a lot of that down here in Lousy-Anna. :P

Calling PsionicFox. Calling PsionicFox.

Can you let me know how the computer situation is going?

Louisiana? Where? I was in N'ahlins last summer for a week working with my church youth group.

AH, I lived in N'awlins' for 12 years (I married a native, you don't GET to leave!) until Katrina. We just moved back to the area last summer.

How's life down there now? I couldn't believe the amount of work still to be done. The government seemed so ineffective. It seemed like the church groups and Habitat for Humanity had the best programs going. (I wonder if K had hit New England if our government would have been any better.)

One thing I carried away from New Orleans was a conviction that the country needs to talk about what happened and is still going on down there and then try to make sure we're better prepared next time. But it's not a hot political topic. Government seems happy to put a bandaid on the levees and go stick its head in the sand. Very discouraging.

How it is going depends on who you talk to. :P

The people who are losing their low/free cost housing projects think it is terrible. (These were meant for TEMPORARY housing, to help low income people get back on their feet and then move. There have been generations of the same family living in the same apartment!)

The people who had a big enough bank balance that they didn't have to wait for an insurance or government check to start rebuilding think it is great.

From what little I saw of it (I was smart enough to leave BEFORE it hit! ;P) It seemed to me that it was mostly the local govt. that failed. At least at first. The response of the feds after the event seemed more that swift and adequate to me. (Again, it depends on your point of view. I'm sure that some areas were better organized and handled better than others.)

In the long run, it will be back. Despite all the pork spending and politicians lining their pockets, they will still pour enough money into that hole in the ground to level it again. They can fill the potholes with $20's if they wanted to! I mean come on, it's New Orleans for crying out loud! They (Feds) aren't going to let it go without a fight.

(If I EVER get my hands on the genius who thought it would be a good idea to build a city surrounded by water BELOW SEA LEVEL!!! Grrr!!!)

Thank you TheOcho, I hoped someone would do that. Please feel free to open some more!

uh oh. So far I am 0 for 2 in making things easier for us. I need to make a mental note never to open anything or ask for dead bodies to be burned again.

Maybe each urn has a single piece of whatever was buried/banished? The one I opened was ceramic, the one Zartari opened was silver.

Oh and don't forget about the other person that was changed. I don't know if we have met that one yet.

The Exchange

Maybe.

And I was going to apologize for splitting the party. Although our evil DM probably would have hit us with the topside zombie even if Yrar and I had stayed close.

The Exchange

I am DMing for real all day tomorrow. The party have been warned that they will be doing part of the Age of Worms adventure path (Faces of Evil/Erthynul Grimlocks) but they are 4th level and there will be six of them.

Note that they haven't lost a single PC (although we do use hero points).

We have all been talking about it for weeks, because we only play one a month and the last session was at the beginning of Jan.

I could go on but lets leave it at they started at zero level in Hommlet. You can guess the rest.

Um, Yeah, thanks Fudrick! ;P

Wow. And I thought I had played some marathon gaming sessions in my time.

French Wolf, this game is really broadening my horizons. Just a few days ago I would never have felt grateful to have a zombie gnawing me while squeezing my breath out in a bearhug. But given what the last zombie did to Yrar, I realy am profoundly grateful. Pleased even.

The Exchange

Ouch.

You're almost making me feel bad.

Thanks Thereal

LOL, good times.

OO! I can fix that! Where did I put that burning hands scroll?,.... :)

Good to have you back in action. I hope the kids get well soon.

French Wolf:

Spoiler:
Are you getting the impression at all that Shulim might be bad luck?

Yes.

One maxim I have always believed in is that there are far worse things than death that a DM can do to a PC.

Take Fudrick for instance.

Ouch. Do I get extra XP for making it even tougher? :D

TheOcho wrote:

No. We take some of your XP and give it to the rest of the group. ;)

The Exchange

aww man!

Thanks Thereal, yet again the players give the DM ideas. But then you know I'm joking, don't you?

I think Yrar is cursed. Maybe next time he should fight a barn.

The Exchange

OK, I'll see what I can throw your way. Remember that first fight. All those great rolls.

Yrar's better when the opponent is a meal.

Cheers mate

Hey, French Wolf, how would it be if Ghari tried to drop to the ground while anti-grappling? WOuld Yrar and SHulim get a to hit bonus for higher level? Would Ghar take a penalty on his anti-grappling roll?

If you win a grapple check I will allow you to trip the zombie Yoraal to the ground. That has no effect on your fighting the zombie and makes it easier for Yrar et al to hit the zombie (+4 to hit for prone).

Just win the grapple check.

Cheers

Hey everyone, French Wolf has offered me a spot in his PbP and I think I'll take him up on that offer. Let me know what the party needs and I'll put something together early next week.

Well Welcome Guy!
Whatever you like is fine with me, I always play better with a character I like, no matter what the party 'needs' (except a healer. EVERY party needs a healer! But we have one.)

But I think that the name 'Shulim' might be jinxed,... :P

No way!! I get to play with Guy "Tristan Lidu" Humual ?? Still digging your STAP journal. Welcome aboard!

Thanks Thom, I appreciate your kind words, I'm hoping to make a less cerebral PC for this campaign but I'll play whatever is needed.

My preferences are always cleric / druid / bard types but I'll play anything the group needs (it really doesn't bother me). Give me a heads up on what you guys want and I'll try to fill that role.

The Exchange

OK Guy I am more than glad to have you join in.

Good. Introductions.

1) An NPC gnome "rogue/beguiler" type who is obviously cursed because he was built at Christmas by one player (who never posted into the game thread), taken over by another who then went awol (computer issues - the beguiler)and now is dummy run by me.

That is the Shulim that the others refer to.

2) Ragadolf is playing an arcane spellcaster/swashbuckler using the generic rules which he's convinced me are great stuff now.Fazaam

3) Utak is playing a hard hitting, hard singing half-orc viking arabian barbarian with a great hammer. There is already one nice but painful story that I am sure the others will mention.Yrar-Kynlas

4) Logos is playing an angry druid (avenger variant)half-sea elf who can fight a bit.Roman

5) TheOcho is playing a gnome favoured soul of the sun god, Hettama. A good guy.Fudrick

6) thereal thom is playing Ghari, a ranger who is currently in the clutches of a zombie and being squeezed to death.

----

As to what you play, that is up to you and the others to resolve.

What you could do is take over running Shulim for a while, the only thing he has done is open a lock so as a character you can pretty much do what you want. I'd recommend beguiler from PHB2, I think they rock and they are a bit like a bard without the music.

Then decide on what to play after a month or two of seeing the setting. However Shulim is beginning to feel cursed so I don't mind if you would prefer to build your own PC.

There is a good deal of info on Gods and the land at the start of the discussion thread - if you decide to go cleric.

From seeing the way you handle Karrin Kind I reckon whatever you do will be good.

Cheers

Gentlemen when I offered Guy the chance to join in, two players mentioned they may like a spot.

Patrick Curtin and Kruelaid have been roleplaying in the World Serpent Inn discussion thread without a DM for three or four weeks and I'd recommend them. Patrick definitely wants in and Kruelaid is currently starring as a drunken dwarf in Heathy's new Saltmarsh game.

However Utak, TheOcho, Logos, Ragadolf, and thereal thom I don't want to increase the size of the party beyond six if any of you are against it.

Over to you

Cheers

I said I would get back to them by Monday evening UK time so I'll wait for your responses until then.

Hey Wolf!

It's all cool man. You mentioned that you have had "players" as in plural go missing so I thought you needed more than one (kill Shulin off, come on!). Now that I read the recent posts on your thread I figured out what you meant. So by all means keep it down to Guy. On the other hand, pbp with Patrick is looking like some good fun judging from the World Serpent thread and it's always nice to get some players with flair.

Me? I'm good for now. Saltmarsh is rocking and Rad's Ravenloft looks like it's gonna be sinister. I don't know if you have heard about mwbeeler, but the Dark Sun campaign is on a slow simmer for the time being cause he's in a serious SNAFU, the big C has come calling.

I never joined your game from the get go because I want to give other people the chance to get in and that certainly applies to Patrick. So don't worry about me, brother.

=)

As for the rest of you clowns, peace, love, and happy gaming!

Kruelaid, thanks for the good karma. What I'll do is keep you in mind as an alternate for the future.

Guy, I would like to give you a big hearty welcome to The Splintered Isles.

As others have mentioned, play what you like. I suggest not using Shulim, I also believe that he is cursed.

One thing we need is a Barbarian that can actually hit something. And sing better. :)

Regarding additional players, I say go for it. The more the merrier.

Again, welcome all

Cheers

Rubbish, Yrar will come good. By the way I am statting up a burning zombie monk.

Perhaps burning ghoul monk would be better, what do you think?

Heeeyah! Boom!! I cannot move!

As I said, Welcome aboard!
We can add Kruelaid as far as I am concerned, I'm with him over in the 'simmering' Dark Sun campaign, and he seems cool!

But yes, either one could robot Shulim for a while if they wanted too while building their own PC, but It DOES seem that Shulim is jinxed! Maybe they don't wanna risk it! ;P

I personally think that we don't wanna get TOO llarge, (The Dark Sun game is a lot of fun, but with 12 people or so you can check your posts only once a day and have 2 pages to catch up to!) But I believe that with this group 5 or 6 would be fine. (Anybody else have an opinion on that feel free, this is just my 2 bits!)

I'll check out the other thread you mentioned, it sounds like a good read too!

Game on!

EDIT- Um,... 'Burning Ghoul Monk'?!?! Now WHERE did I put that wand of magic missles!?!

Where can I find the stats for Shulim the cursed? I have no problems taking over an old character . . . even a cursed one, as long as I can make some changes and make him my own.

It looks like the current Shulim was revealed on page 4 of the gaming thread, near the bottom of the page. Stats are in the profile.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Utak,
I could run this guy for a while. Seems like an interesting character, might take me a bit to get a feel for him, besides, the thought of running a cursed character is too great an opportunity to pass up.

The Exchange

You can run Shulim as is or change him (including stats) so long as he can still pick locks he is yours to make your own. I would prefer you to either copy or redo the character under your own alias, just slightly alter his name so it doesn't conflict with the previous two players efforts.

Something like Shulim the Cursed for instance.

That will make your postings more readable and the character more your own.

Cheers

The Exchange

I think you are right about having twelve players, Ragadolf, if people agree with Patrick as the seventh player then that will be it. Seven will be the limit.

Kruelaid is prepared to be a reserve.

Cheers

The Exchange

Shulim is up, Guy.

He is stood next to a square with a grappled Ghari held by a large zombie pirate called Yoraal. Yrar is stood opposite you, struggling to hit the beast.

Nearby is a 5ft square hole, thirty feet below that is a Chamber of Urns with Fazaam, Roman and Fudrick inside.

Last round Shulim stabbed the zombie but it ignored the wound totally.

Yuour turn, Guy.

Jump in.

Cheers
