Had a new beer Sunday- Daymark by Rising Tide Brewery (out of Portland, ME). It is described as a pale ale that uses locally grow rye in the mix. Pretty good- smooth, but not overly complex, would be easy to drink on a hot day. I still prefer Whale's Tale Pale Ale as my pale ale of choice, but I would recommend Daymark.

I used to drink mostly Heineken, but I only did so because it was cheap. I stopped drinking it, and I've fallen in love with Kona Brewing's creations. It's a Hawaiian microbrewery, but the local grocery store (southern San Francisco Bay Area) sells their products at a far lower price than many other microbrews. It is a very high quality beer, so, with the price as good as it is, I've made it my normal choice.
I also like Guinness, which is my beer of choice at restaurants, bars, and the like.

one word: heffeweissen
Weihenstephaner has some really good wheat beers. Their Aventus Weizenbock is stellar. I'm also a big fan of their Dunkel Heffeweissen.
But it is realy called that? I just ask because it's wrong (a pet-peeve of mine; disregard if you will).
It should be "Hefeweizen", a compound word of the German words for yeast and wheat. There are two kinds, light and dark ("hell" and "dunkel", respectively). There is also "Weißbier" (white beer), which is a kind of Hefeweizen)

Weizenbier and Weißbier are the same thing, the Bavarians (who invented it, Weihenstephan is by the way the oldest active brewery on the planet) calls it Weißbier "white beer" the rest of germany Weizenbier "wheat beer"
the usual varierties are helles Hefe (light yeast) dunkles hefe (dark yeast) and Kristall (cristal clear)

Yeah, but if it's a dunkles Hefe, it's not a Weißbier anymore. ;)

well, common sense would suggest that you are right. unfortunately Bavarians are not the most logical beings

A friend came by but then had to go suddenly, leaving behind a bottle of Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA to tempt me. I guess I need to invite him back over soon so we can drink it. Other than that, haven't had any new beers yet this summer. I've mostly just been cycling through cans of Harpoon Summerale and IPA and recently Sam Adams and Summerale in a can.

Anyone else here limited to Gluten-free? I think the best affordable one in that line is currently Omission's Lager. Unfortunately, the new GF variety at Trader Joes was kinda terrible.
I do like Daura, from Spain, but that's kinda expensive.
Before I found out I was allergic I liked Mauduit, but that's the past now.

Hello,
I'm kinda new to the forum but this is a subject that interests me greatly!
I'm from Canada, more precisely Québec and I like to drink products of Boréale, specifically ''La Rousse'' (The redhead). It's not so strong in alcohol but it tastes caramel a bit. It's refreshing, yet it goes well with a steak. I like beer and your suggestions are great!

Does what you drink out of effect the taste? I usually drink Kona Wailua Ale straight from a bottle, but I did have a can of Sam Adam's Boston Lager once (it was very, very bad). I just bought a pint glass at Spencer's (the design was too cool to ignore), and have been pouring Anchor Steam Beer from the bottle into the glass. It is better than the bottled beer, but I don't know if it's because the Steam Beer is superior or I have the right glassware.
Also, what beers are good at room temperature? My grandpa had a drinking problem, and my grandmother doesn't want a reminder of that in her fridge. I can drink, but she wants it kept confined to my room. So, beer will have to be stored in a dresser.

Kelsey, yes the vessel is important. For most ales and lagers, a clean pint glass is the way to go. Stemware benefits upscale ales like Belgian stuff. Cans are for session beers and corn lagers, if your just getting started I would avoid drinking straight from cans (nothing wrong with em if you like beer).
For room temp, I would try and go for old traditional styles. If it doesn't get too hot in your room, you can try chilling the bottles back down in a cooler before drinking.
But, instead I recommend heading out to a nice local place and trying things on draft. Draft beer is awesome, and warm beer from a dresser in a bedroom is a bummer.

....lucky. I wanted to visit Founder's or Great Lakes, but they're kind of far away.
Good Juju is a good one too, I visited Left Hand Brewery this summer.

Evil Lincoln, how do you continue to only post stuff that I agree with? Yes, your glass makes a difference. If you typically like relatively normal English Ales or German Lagers, you will want to stock up on a few pint glasses. Don't put them in the freezer, just keep them cool and clean. Cans don't always suck; when you want Natty Bo, you generally want the worst experience you can get for "authenticity's sake."
Anyway, I've been craving some lighter fare lately, and discovered Newcastle's Bombshell. Still hoppy and full, but with a crisp and easy tongue feel.
My wife is on an Angry Orchard kick, and I picked her up a sampler 12-pack with a couple of flavors that I know she wouldn't have tried, otherwise. The elderflower flavor is especially friendly to a Kool-Aid palette (or mine, for that matter).
Happy Drinking!

Drinking a Third Shift Amber Lager at the moment. A nice little beer. My brother had some in his fridge and I tried it one night when I was there.
That's funny, I had one yesterday too. It was pretty good. But then my wife let me try a sip of her Breckenridge Vanilla Porter and then went to the bathroom. It was so frikken delicious I sort of finished it for her.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep using the pint glass, and try to find some more old fashioned beers. Does anyone know of any?
I do drink draft beer on occasion, but it's 5 bucks for a Guiness and the bar is a long bike ride away (and you can most certainly get a DUI on a bicycle), so I keep it as a once in a while thing.

You'd better keep her away from NYC, we might just have a beer-less affair...

Kelsey's post made me wonder which beers taste better from the brewery's own glasses.
I reckon that Erdinger tastes pretty good from their vase-like glass and the bulb might help to preserve the head.
On the other hand, wife-beater still tastes just as average from those stemmed pint glasses.
Supposedly the Sam Adams Pint Glass makes it tasted better than usual.
