Dragon and Dungeon on the DI are Late

4th Edition

October is here and the promised new issues of Dungeon and Dragon Magazines on the DnDInsider site are nowhere to be found. WOTC is doing a bang up job. What an incredible new release of their products. Is this a sign of things to come?

To be fair, did they say anywhere that they were going to be available on the very first day of October? It's been my experience that most things like this are released "at some point" within the month, not necessarily the first day.

I think its completely reasonable to expect the Dragon and Dungeon content to be available on the first of the month. I always had the magazine by the first of the month when Paizo published it.

Considering the new digital model WOTC is using, you would think they would get the content out on time to show that they will be able to deliver on time. This is just another failure on the part of WOTC to neglect a marketing opportunity. By the time they actually post something on their site, most people who care will probably be long on.

WOTC seems to fail where successful publishers succeed - meeting deadlines and producing quality content. I guess this is what happens when you are owned by a toy company.

Oh, i tought it stood for "We Obviously Take Cash"

Silly me.

I thought I read somewhere that they'd be out at the *end* of October.

To be fair as Fatespinner has tried to be, I normally received my issues of Dungeon and Dragon in the middle of the month. Depending on the whims of the U.S.P.S., I might receive one in the first ten days of the month and the other in the 2nd ten days of the month. That applied during Paizo's run. As I'm waiting for an electronic initiative, the period where said magazines will travel is now nil. As long as they appear by 11:59 pm October 31st, Wizards has kept their word. That would disappointing, but they would have told the truth.

I've bought plenty of books from WOTC over the years and found that they tend to get things onto the shelves in the middle of the month. I would therefore not be surprised if they post the new issues sometime in two-three weeks. When I have compared their listed schedule for product release with the actual dates given, they've held up quite well. I'm impatient as well, Mr. Troll, but give them time. I prefer to give people enough rope to hang themselves all on their own, and so far we haven't paid out enough line yet.

Come on, man. You're being riduculous. Thus, I'm going to ridicule you.

First off, the first day of the month is still in present tense if we're assigning some kind of exact date that you're pulling out of your ass, just for argument's sake. Second, and most important, the exact wordage on the WotC site is:

Wizards of the Coast wrote:
"Welcome to the future home of Dungeon Magazine! Starting in October, this is your destination for the best in D&D adventures...

There is no specific date. It says "in" October. Not the first day, the second day, or even the 15th day, but some day "in" October.

There's a ton of other stuff to lambast WotC over. Why don't you rag on them about that stuff until the end of the month and then rag on them on November 1 about not delivering in October like they said they would. Pace yourself, young grasshopper ;)

Liberty's Edge

Yeah....but is it October on the internet????

WotC is just waiting to release them later in October to better acclimatize all of the old Dragon and Dungeon subscribers who are accustomed to waiting on the wonderful postal service for weeks/months on end for delivery.

Liberty's Edge

It's NEVER October in Christmastown.

Grand Lodge

*shrug*

Whatever...

I don't think WIzCo has produced lousy products (more third party stuff sucks than WizCo's) In fact I usually find that their products are better produced than most others (except Paizo of course).

Now, if you don't like what D&D produces, then the answer is simple. Play something else.

When 2nd edition came out, I thought it was just awful. So I switched to GURPS, instead. If you hate D&D so much, pick another game system and go play it.

I am not a big fan of Dragon and Dungeon going digital, but I am giving them the benefit of the doubt until I see for myself. It will take a few months before I can make a real judgement. Anything like this has flaws and quirks that are unexpected. The guys at WizCo are just as human as the rest of us.

There are several things they have released about 4E that I do not really like. There are several things they have released that I DO really like. Compared to 3.5 which is one of the bulkiest, most heavy handed, rules dominant game systems I have ever seen, I await 4E eagerly.

I just do not think they will fix the above problems, but rather just transform them.

I don't think the "magazines" are going to actually be like the magazines, where you get everything at once. I believe they are going to be putting up stuff as they go - an adventure here, an article there... I also wasn't expecting it right at the start of October. Right now it's hard to hate a free product. Maybe if I had paid money for it and was told it was coming out October 1st, 12 am, then, boy would I be so freaking peeved.

I could give two s~$~s about Tim - I just try and provide appropriate warning when people start responding to him. He's more like a pimple than an enemy.

Liberty's Edge

I'm anti-4e. I guess, s!&$. I just....
if they said "October," well hell, they got 30 days left.
THEN, if it's not out Nov 1st, well, s$*# happens. Oh well.
If it's not out by November 15th, hell....it's two weeks late.
No hair off my butt.
If it comes out in December, I might ridicule them.
But only if Sebastian doesn't be's mean to me.

Maybe someone at Paizo could do us all a favor and lock this thread?

Oh, come on! Not yet! There's more ridiculing to be done! Some people just love to make targets of themselves.

I dunno - he hasn't really done anything lock-worthy and I'd be reluctant to see the mods come in and shut the tread down. The fact that threads are rarely locked is one of the wonderful things about this community. Tim is something we can handle as a community by ignoring his posts until he either rises to the level of discourse on these boards or goes away.

Some of the previous threads were really quite entertaining to read ;-)

Let's not turn this into the WotC message boards ;).

Besides, with a name like that, I don't think he's not trying to be taken seriously. Just guessing though . . .

I enter into a grapple with the troll, getting an attack of opportunity from Sebastian for humoring the troll in the first place. Then I make a touch attack. Success! Now I oppose grapple, aided by the other posters. I look and find an actual Dragon article now posted on Wizard. I decide to leave this dungeon and seek treasure elsewhere.

On usenet, it's been September for over a decade.

The information provided about the DI indicates that the articles will be published over the course of the month, with some being provided each week. The final result will be compiled at the end of each month.

While I would be happy to see some of that content on October 1st, I can't say I'm surprised not to. Now if none of it is up by the end of the week, given the staggered approach they've presented, I would be a little frustrated.

Sebastian is right on this one. I considered locking the thread earlier today, but came to the conclusion that the community is responding to obvious trolls in an appropriate fashion. ("The Real Troll"? Hehe.) Less policing is generally good here.

Then after dinner I thought about locking it again, for about six seconds, then realized I'm too full of delicious lamb chops to do such a thing right now.

(Though I wouldn't mind seeing this thread slip into the archives without too many more posts....)

On the order of pimply lurkers on the boards, what ever happened to The Koga? Anyone seen he/she posting lately? Does The Koga have an alias or has he/she become another user? I must admit, as mildly jarring and impishly annoying as his/her poor spelling and third-person rants were, I kind of miss him/her.

Carry on.

Many a hand has been stayed by the judicious consumption of roasted sheep parts. :)

You are my new hero, Gary. Great attitude, and lamb chops to boot... mmmmm, minted lamb...

Plus, sooner or later the the thread may well get threadjacked and then everyone will forget what the OP was talking about in the first place. I know I have. For me there exists only the notion of delicious minty lamb.

Oh, and did you ever sort out those laser beams for the sharks? If not I might have a few running (or should that be swimming?) spare.
Red-coloured beam as standard.
(Only Samuel Jackson gets the purple-coloured ones)

Just in case anyone actually cared...

Lambs are tasty, second only to veal. The exquisite taste of suffering and confinement make veal tops in my book.

While perusing the Dragon site I noticed the first article for Dragon "Magazine" was indeed published October 1.

So what was the original poster griping about? His inability to use a computer?

Try going to Dragon/Features/Archive and you find Fortress of the Yuan-Ti

published Oct 1...

So I guess this topic can be closed :)

For those interested, the Ecology of the Death Knight article has been posted over at WOTC.

Oh, and it's only October 3rd. Four weeks left in the month to post the rest . . . .
