Why are you coming to Sandpoint?

Rise of the Runelords

What reasons are players coming up with to get their PC's to the Swallowtail Festival?

Sovereign Court

My players' characers' reasons:

The paladin: She broke off an engagement due to a godly visitation that told her to go west. Her cousin is Aesrick Battlehorn, so Sandpoint's her first stop.

The bard: Money. The Swallowtail Festival is her first big break as an entertainer.

The sorceress: She's fleeing slavers from Riddleport and caught a ride with the bard.

The cleric: Sandpoint is his new hometown. His family are artisans from Magnimar who have been helping rebuild the cathedral.

The rogue: To start a new life, away from his tragic family.

The player in my solo game is a sandpoint native, and a member of the only other minkai family in town other than the kaijtsu's . . . needless to say, Ameiko and Miwa were already friends.

Me and my brother got off a ship there, because the captain was retiring, and his replacement was a right wanker. Then all these freakin' goblins started running amok. So we capitalized on the situation to whup some righteous goblin butt.

'cause I heard it was filled with homos.

Shen Tsang. A monk of Irori and native of Tian Xia is travelling to Sandpoint to deliver a sealed scroll to the Kaijitsu family.

Wise guy.

Don't forget the availability of "family planning" ;)

My PCs went for the free food.

Hot lesbian elf por... *coughs* nevermind.

Locals come for the celebration.

My DM just decided to run us through a 5 years before session. Turns that would make my character a 15 year old girl. After about 20 minutes of enduring some friendly jibing and snickering from my fellow players, it was decided that I was my father was on business trip to Sandpoint and I came along for the ride as well a dwarf who long time family retainer. It great light session as we hired a local cleric boy to give us guided tour. My goal was go out shopping and buy my first familiar we ended up running a few goblins and me getting into an argument with a local street urchin. It was getting late we return back only to find my father had became a victim of cereal killer.

With that session out way it became clear what my character would be returning to Sandpoint to finely find one responsible for her father’s death.

So...your dad was mauled to death by Tony the Tiger? Or maybe he was mortally pecked by Toucan Sam? Ooohhhh...I know...he was ambushed in a dark alley by Snap, Crackle, and Pop!

You know, Snap, Crackle and Pop would make a great group of evil sorcerers, perhaps specializing in murder/arson using pyrotechnic techniques?

I can see the criminal mastermind, known only as "Crackle", in my mind's eye right now... devillishly twisting his handlebar mustache between thumb and forefinger as he plots his next dastardly plot. His trusted (but not too bright) sidekicks, "Snap" and "Pop" cracking their knuckles in anticipation of their next victim.

Sadly enough, that sounds like fun... halflings or gnomes... I am thinking gnomes... *sigh* darn it anyway...

Anyway, to get the thread back on topic, I'm in Sandpoint because it's where I live. And the rededication of the temple will be the biggest celebration of the year.

My character (a Chelaxian binder) was chased out of Magnimar by a torch-and-pitchfork-bearing mob lead by clerics of Sarenrae... Sandpoint was the next place on the road north.
