The halfling in our group has a war dog would the goblins go after it instead of the players?
I would say they probably would be more likely than a typical foe, but goblins aren't necessarily stupid, if the halfling is attacking them and the dog is not, they would probaby attack the halfling. Now on a surprise attack or something the might attack the dog first.

The first time your group attacks, I'd have the goblins run like hell. Goblin commandos and other goblins with at least 1 level of a PC class would probably not run, but they WOULD focus their attacks on the dog.
And goblins are actually kind of stupid. I could EASILLY see their dog-hate/dog-fear forcing them to focus all their attacks on a dog while the ranger with favored enemy (goblinoid) and the goblin-bane scythe is Right There.

yeah - I upped the number on the initial attack just so I could describe more antics before they were all killed.. especially when the PCs ignored the 8-10 that chased a dog into a tavern, thinking that there would be other people with weapons in there (all adventures start in a tavern mentality).... yeah... dog running behind bar + goblins throwing torches at dog + lots of patrons rushing out to avoid goblins and spilling liquor all over the floor = tavern go up in flames... fast

Encounters like this makes this AP top notch, it really makes players rethink what they know about an old standard.
