I actually screwed up; I was not in their system yet and actually don't start until *next* Monday. I showed up on time and everything though! :D

My dog (who I thought I would have had to put down by now) seems to be making a comeback! I know it's just a matter of time, but if his last few days or weeks are better, I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

I also have a strong lead on a refinery shut down job in Tacoma; It will be brutal hours 1600 miles away, and it will only last for a few weeks, but I'm in a world of financial hurt right now!

Good luck with your dog and the job lead. I can understand needing money. I am blessed with having a good job, but I have been there. Things will get better.

AWRIGHT! Glad to hear the dog's made a comeback! Your dog looks so much like my neighbor's dog its uncanny- the stories I could tell about that little guy. Frighteningly intelligent, and there are times I SWEAR he is laughing at us silly humans...

Woohoo! I just checked the results for the exams I took in June, and I passed both! :D :D :D I thought I'd failed the second one because it was the day before I flew out to Seattle and I was excited about that trip!

I finally got in touch with an old friend that I have not talked to in over 18 years thanks to Facebook. He and I were in the Florida Conservation Corps and we were part of a group of 6 people that went over to Yellowstone National Park after the fire in 1998 to rebreak a trail. He will be getting remarried in October. The only sucky part is that I will not be able to attend the wedding.

1. Coheed and Cambria are playing at the New York State Fair on Friday, about five miles away. Ticket price: $10.00. I am SO there.

2. Social Distortion are playing in Albany on one of the days I'm home. My girlfriend and I are going to try to make it in. Also very nice.

In addition,

3. University classes on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday only this semester.

4. Syracuse University accepted all 36 of my credits from SCAD, high school, and online courses, so come December, I'll be a junior. There's a significant chance I'll be able to graduate a year early.

That's awesome. My brother went to Syracuse (and I almost did too) - even though it's a big place, he had a good experience there.

So me and the family went to Assategue Island yesterday to see the wild ponies and do the whole beach thing....
The ocean was great. Awesome waves from the stirring up that the past hurricane did, beautiful water temp., and just a perfect setting to do a bit of body surfing.
I start hitting waves and there are some really good ones. 5-6 footers that really have some good speed and power. Fakey is getting his rhythm down and catching really good waves and riding them into the beach from 30-40' out.
I caught a really nice one that had my entire upper body sticking out of it not touching the water. I WAS a surfboard! Then the wave crushed me. It tossed me into the sand, flipped me over in the section of surf where all the broken shells and pebbles are being worked smooth, and then it starts receding very quickly.....fast enough to yank my trunks off. Fakey makes his reflex save to grab his swim trunks just before they come off of his ankles and are lost at sea. Now all the water is almost gone.
There I am. Face down, covered in shells and pebbles, pants around my ankles in 6-12 inches of water, bone-white ass in the air as I desperately try to wriggle, inchworm style, and get my pants up without exposing my frontal region to the hundreds of beach-goers (including my family, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and her family, and my brother-in-law and his fiance).
I finally get them almost up when the next wave slams me. Then the next one. I am a whale floundering on the beach at this point trying hard not to drown while at the same time working diligently to try to keep a modicum of my self-esteem intact.
Please don't take my pants Mr. Ocean.
I finally drag my trunks all the way up, along with 3-4 pounds of pebbles and shells, and get into an upright position.....I was truly amazed by how many people actually were paying attention to my trials.
Oh well, nothing to do now except take a bow.
Then I headed into deeper water to try to remove all the variety of debris that the ocean decided to violate me with from within my trunks.
I did have a blast though. Awesome times! The whole time my extended family sat eating later that evening there was much laughing at my expense and people saying "Steve sure put the Ass in Assategue Island!".
