At Valessa's words, Brick snaps out of his reverie. With some difficulty, he unshoulders the tiny (comparitavely) pack, and digs though it with his surprisingly deft fingers.

"I don't know."

A long pause.

"What's a grapple?"

I climb up Beren and Valessa and manage to find a handhold and haul myself up onto the windowsil where I look out the window.

Climb 21 (15+4+2) Spot 15 (12+3)

You reach the window easily, and find the sill wide enough for your small body to stand on comfortably. About 18 inches wide.

You can tell by the limited amount of light filtering through the windows from the stones behind you that there are a variety of rooms that you can watch over from here. The details are blurred by distance and shadow, but you can make out work benches, cells, torture devices, and a dozen other chambers.

Is there a grapple in the pack?

No - a climbing harness and knotted rope but no grapple.

"Hey Valessa, all I found was a knotty rope." Brick holds the rope up high, mostly to confirm that yes, it is indeed a knotty rope.

Valessa, and anyone else beating 22:

Spoiler:

You hear the distant echo of multiple people moving through the outer giant sized corridor, they are coming towards you from the clockwise direction.

This constitutes getting to act in the surprise round...

A massive skeleton, comes thundering around the corner. The rusted links of its ancient chainmail armor clanging noisily as it moves.

Behind it, six odd four armed creatures take a knee and let fly with light crossbows, while thier upper arms bang spears on shields.

Behind them, shouting commands in a language you don't understand is hideous abomination of a humanoid, with empty eye sockets and two large tentacles.

Brick is mumbling to himself again.

"Happy thoughts happy thoughts happy thoughts..."

In his own way, this seems to calm him. What he doesn't notice is that his hands and eyes are beginning to emit a soft golden glow...

I look askance at Brick and ask "What are you doing? Why are your hands glowing?"

Merreck Greenbottle wrote:

"I don't know. It happened before, when the blood people tried to hurt us."

In other words, Brick is going to attempt to turn undead on his turn. It's just a cinematic effect.

Of course, the surprise round ends with the giant still 60' away...

It isn't that big a deal, the giant ends the surprise round 60' away, and only the crossbow shots are a threat.

Female Human (Aundairian) Rogue 3 / Ranger 1

Valessa's eyes widen in surprise - which quickly turns to fear.

"What in Khyber ... oh frak!" she turns to the others, panic showing in her face. "Dolgrims! Dolgaunt!"

Knolwedge, Dungeoneering: 19+7 = 26. Can I assume she knows a fair bit about these creatures witht that roll?

Init: 14+2 = 16.
In surprise round:Valessa reaches into her pack, scrabbling for something, before her fingers close around the object she was looking for, drawing it out.

"These things are bad news people," she says, looking around wildly. "Maybe we should run - let the giant's trap take care of them?"

A little knowledge can be a scary thing...

With a 26, you can fel free to read the monster entry to me

Female Human (Aundairian) Rogue 3 / Ranger 1

I’m not intimately familiar with the monster entries (being intimately familiar with a Dolgaunt would probably fall under the heading of hentai), but I think I can remember a few things – though I could be wrong of course…

“The thing with the tentacles – the Dolgaunt – will be in charge – and the most dangerous of the lot,” Valessa continues, low and urgent. “It – and the Dolgrims, the things that look like two goblins squashed together – I’ve heard they’re somewhat resistant to ordinary weapons. The hobgoblins used Beshyk against them – I don’t think any of us have that, but magic may suffice.” Her voice begins to crack in fear, and she is looking around as if expecting something else to spring out at them at any moment.

Liberty's Edge

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

The Dolgaunt leader barks out orders in a language you don't understand. It is a command code based on undercommon. If you actually speak undercommon, you may attempt a decipher script check toguess what he is saying.

The Dolgrim let fly with crossbows. 3 fire at Brick, 2 at Beren, and 1 at rokko.

Brick -
to hit 10 damage 4
to hit 7 damage 6
to hit 22 (possible crit confirm - 11) damage 2 (+5 if confirmed)

Beren -
to hit 8 damage 6
to hit 21 damage 3

Rokko -
to hit 17 damage 3

And the giant thunders down the hallway, ending up about 45' from the nearest of you.

End surprise round, begin normal initiative.

Not confirmed.

"So you're saying we can't hurt them? Wonderful!" I say as (on my turn) I move over to Beren and mutter something while waving a hand over his wounds. Tendrils of silvery light stitch the wound back together.
Casting CLW, 8pts healed.

Not to be a bother, but you are high up on a wall when this all happens. You'll need a climb check to get down, but you can still do the rest.

Yuck. FYI, the thing that Valessa grabbed from her pack during the surprise round was her oil of magic weapon ... I think their DR is Beshyk AND magic, but i'm not totally sure .... this should be fun...

How wide is the corridor Dragonmann?

Beren is hit once, for 3 points of damage.

M/n Warforged Cleric 3 / Paladin 1

The Dolgrims' projectiles slam into Brick's ceramic carapace, dislodging bits of rust and clay. The warforged kneels, trying desperately to shoulder the pain. Then, he straightens with a jerk. Soft golden light pours from his eyes, as well as from around the missiles projecting from his body. He raises his hand, upon which a strange symbol glows. Golden light radiates from his fingertips, lancing toward the giant skeleton.

[ooc]Magic or byeshk will negate their DR, and the corridor is 35' wide.

Female Human (Aundairian) Rogue 3 / Ranger 1

Valessa unscrews the jar of magic oil and applies it frantically to her bow. She attempts to position herself towards the rear of the group, whilst maintaining a clear line of sight to the Dolgaunt at the rear of the enemy group if such is possible.

---

NPCing Beren:
Beren snarls as the crossbow bolt scores a glancing hit on him. He quickly nocks his own bow and sends a returning arrow at the strange creature that fired at him.

Attack roll w/ composite longbow: 13+5 = 18. Damage if applicable: 7+2 = 9

“We’ll soon see if these things can bleed, magic or no,” he growls, preparing to drop his bow and draw his blades if necessary.

In response to Brick's nearly inexplicable glowing the giant shudders and stops its headlong charge, before beginning to back away.

Beren's arrow sinks deep into the chest of one of the conjoined goblin creatures. Nearly bringing it down.
