Background: Spoiler:
Sari d’Deneith was born to a family with deep roots and ties to Baron Breven d’Deneith. She was raised to know none other than her loyalty to the House of Deneith . Her childhood was a pleasant one with most of her time practicing her martial training with the neighbor boy, Kern. When she came of age she immediately sought out to train at the Rekkenmark Academy. She excelled at every task she encountered and was at the top of her class. Once completing the academy she joined the Blademarks Guild as a mercenary. Eager to find some action and knowing that since the end of the Last War most of the Blademarks are just bodyguards, Sari had her family send her to Stormreach. When she arrived at Stormreach she was immediately put to work escorting expeditions through the jungle. About eight months ago she was escorting an expedition from Morgrave with four other guards and the group was ambushed by a Drow scouting party. The four other guards fell quickly and the Drow killed them while Sari fought three Drow single handed until the remaining Drow gathered and struck her down. As they gathered to leave Sari stood with her last remaining energy and strength charged the group of Drow. Several of the drow fired arrows at her as she charged and the arrow bounced off her skin like straw. The shocked drow were not prepared and her last charge proved fatal for two of the Drow before her world went dark. When she awoke she found herself on a bed in a small earth bound room with the only light coming from a small lantern inside the room. She noticed that all her wounds were dressed and she is in fresh clothes but the door out of the room was locked. As she feels and looks around the room she notices the walls resemble that of the old ruins she had seen in the jungle. She realizes that she is probably not far from where she was defeated. Taking a closer look at the table that sits in the corner she notices that there is a small piece of bread and a mug of murky water. Grateful for the water and food she eagerly eats and drinks all that she can. Upon feeling better after eating she tries to remember exactly what happened and ponders just how long she has been here. After what seems hours she hears a noise coming from outside of the door. She recognizes the language as Drow but she is unable to make any sense of it. Two large Drow enter the room and motion that she must come with them. Feeling that she had better obey she gets up without a sound and follows the first one while the other one stays right behind her. The hall way that she is in is dark and she can barely make out the outline of the Drow in front of her she shuffles her feet along the ground. They take her to a great room that has beams of light radiating through cracks in the ceiling. There she is surrounded by many Drow. One whom seems to be in charge comes closer to her. He stands in front of her and though he is smaller than her he seems to tower above her with his stature. In broken common asks her, “what is your name and where are you from”. “I am Sari d’Deneith and I am from the House of Deneith”. She feels that this Drow is familiar somehow and notices that he has a limp. He comes to her and says, “My name is Xar’kan and even though you killed two of our tribe members Vulkoor protected you from our arrows and we knew we could not kill you ”. [occ] The Drow may believe that her dragonmark is a mark from Vulkoor and that he protected her from the arrows [occ] “We are going to keep you here until we either find we have no use for you or we see the greater purpose in having you here.” “You will not try to run away or you will be killed, you will do work for us and you will behave, do you understand?” Sari thinks for a moment and remembers that though she is trained to fight, she is also trained not to seek out combat. “I will agree to these terms, I will not fight you.” Xar’kan motions to a female Drow to step forward. The female comes up and jesters for Sari to follow her. Sari is taken by the female whom tells her, “You can call me Cerkia”. Sari is lead into another room that has several female preparing meals. They all stop and look up. Cerkia turns to Sari and says, “You will cook for us”. With that Sari began her first month with the Drow. It was hard to track time as she never was allowed outside, but she marked every time she slept on the wall next to her bed. She would do her cleaning and cooking every day and never disobeyed. As she would be working she would listen to her captures talk and slowly she started to understand their language. During the first time they were moving their camp the tribe was attacked by a group of hill giants. During the attack Sari picked up one of the fallen Drow warriors long knife and sword and attacked the giants. Before she knew it Sari and three Drow killed the last giant. Cerkia walked up to Sari and asked “Why didn’t you use the attack to get away?”. Sari looked at Cerkia and replied “I gave you my word that I would not leave and I will not let myself be killed by a lowly giant.” Xar’kan stepped forward “You fought well but the jungles of Xen’drik are different then where you come from. If you plan to survive with us you will need to learn to fight like us.” After the battle Sari was allowed to train with some of the younger warriors and she quickly learned how to handle a few of their unique weapons. After several months she was allowed to join some of the scouting parties into the jungle. While she was out on these patrols she soon learned the Drow sign language. After six months of training with the Drow Sari was summoned to talk to Xar’kan. When she arrived he looked at her and said “I have consulted with the priests and we come to a decision that you are to serve Vulkoor in the city in the north. When Vulkoor wills it you will return to us.” Before Sari could say anything Xar’kan handed her a beautiful Drow long knife and a scroll "This will help you in your training." Xar'kan turned and turned and walked away leaving Sari to stare at the two gifts. A Drow scouting party accompanied her north for two weeks to Stormreach. Sari said her goodbyes and walked back into Stormreach and headed to the Deneith enclave. Of course her appearance was a shock since everyone thought she was surely dead. Sari has spent the last month filling out reports and paper work and has finally been allowed to start working for the Blademarks again.
